whittlin down the catcher options

out-righted catcher Hector Gimenez and outfielder Mike Rodriguez to Class AAA Round Rock to put the 40-man roster at 36.

The Astros must set their 40-man roster by Nov. 20 for purposes of protecting players from the Rule V draft.

I don't know.  I doubt teams will take Gimenez in the rule 5 draft after shoulder surgery.

If they outrighted him, he had to clear waivers.  I doubt anyone would draft him in the Rule 5 draft when they could have picked him up on waivers.
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

But they did chance the waiver.

Strikes me as a vote of confidence in one of two things: Quintero's skill and/or Ausmus' willingness to return. Any upshot here, aside from that, that I'm missing?

I'm not convinced he's going to make it all the way back.
