It's a conspiracy, from a chat 8/15/2002

Ed Romero: "...That's the key, not only at the Major League level, but any level. You have to have consistent pitching and defense. That's what wins you ballgames." Link

Another trend.  That's the third coach set for 2008 who spent a great deal of time in 2007 and earlier working with younger/minor league players.  Add Berry as a fourth who has fairly recent experience working with minor league hitters.

1. Jackie Moore as bench coach who led the AA and AAA Round Rock Express for many years.
2. Dewey Robinson, minor league pitching guru (roving instructor).
3. Sean Berry, former minor league hitting guru (roving instructor).

Who am I leaving out?

I'd have to say that Tal's doing a pretty good job of setting up rebuilding without saying the fatal word "rebuilding".
I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing AstroTurf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, torture of Bud Selig.

promoting Moore clears the way for Clark at RR.
Often wrong, but never in doubt.

The association between Romero and Cooper goes back to their playing days, in Milwaukee.  As I recall, Romero the player was sort of a Tim Bogar type - great defense and versatility, not much with the bat.  For whoever it was who wanted Bogar back in the fold, maybe Romero is the next best thing.

Romero: From the astros.com article linked above, "Romero spent the last three seasons with the Florida Marlins (2005-07) as the organization's roving infield coordinator."

And a little bit of a connection to The Great,

August 24, 1989

The Milwaukee Brewers acquired the veteran Ed Romero from the Atlanta Braves yesterday.

Romero, who played with the Brewers from 1980 to 1985, was acquired from the Braves for a player to be named.

Billy Bates, a rookie who suffered a separated shoulder in Tuesday night's 4-2 loss in Baltimore, was placed on the Brewers' 15-day disabled list.

The shortstop Billy Spiers was also injured Tuesday night, suffering a muscle strain in his upper chest as he fell trying to make an over-the-head catch in center field in the third inning. Spiers will be evaluated on a day-to-day basis.

He was really good on special teams but that was only after he had played pretty good to U of Tenn.
Always ready to go to a game.

That was my first guess, but he's worm food, so unless they'll be spreading him around the infield, I don't think that's him.
