Author Topic: J Dicks is a Aggie (Read 5582 times)

Well since Byrne (A&M AD) has said as recently as Wednesday that he does not make mid season changes, that is what appears is happening. Supposedly, contacts are being made with potential coaches, but Fran can still save his job, much to the chagrin of many Aggie faithful.

I'm sure beating tu (tee-hee! get it? tu!) would redeem him to the status of "better recruiter than Mack, better gameday coach than Stoops".

Unfortunately, Greg Davis and his "3 yard hitch and a cloud of... nothing" offense may make this possible.

When OU holds UT to two field goals, the anti-Davis crowd is going to get very vocal.

The OU team that I watched destroy Miami looks about twice as fast as UT.

Short of winning out, I don't think anything is going to redeem him amongst the general fan base. He's going to have to win 8 this season to keep the big donors from really pursuing a new coach. After Miami, that's probably closer to 9.

No, it will not. Not even close. There are plenty of Aggie faithful that wanted Fran's ass gone even after the Ags beat UT-A last season.

After watching this team play in three of their first four games, I would say that there is little to no realistic chance of that type of outcome to this season.

No doubt, which is why I believe those who have told me (and should be in the know) that contact is being made, and Byrne has a short list of candidates that he's operating from.

If they Aggies are already working to sign a new football coach, it is in the event they have to do a reset of the Bellard firing from '78. You know; the mid-season firing thing that they don't do?

The 'short list' is the problem. There aren't just a lot of people with the skills to do the job that aren't tied down somewhere already. I made the same point when the wolves were howling for RC's liver. Firing the guy is easy. Getting a replacement that will do better is harder.

He'd have been gone last year without the gift victory in austin. OU is going to do a 77-0 on us again.

I'm guessing the only reason he wasn't fired on the spot was that the practice is apparently fairly widespread among other big program coaches. Wouldn't the info disclosed be a fairly cut and dry violation of HIIPA, as well as inviting all kinds of betting shenanigans?

I'm guessing the real reason was for Byrne to get his lawyers in order. Especially with Jim O'Brien just having won millions from Ohio State fro "wrongful termination".

That might be hard to make stick since Byrne didn't immediately demand that he stop the newsletter (according to that article, anyway).

You can be sure the NCAA is now or will soon be investigating. Giving boosters select and relevant information not distributed to the general public could and most likely will net the team sanctions.

You know, you can always submit in writing a request for his contract and any amendments to know exactly what the contract state.

Except Frank Bemer (at Virginia Tech) amongst others have been doing this for a while.
