Orel Hershiser and Dusty Baker
« on: August 04, 2007, 12:13:04 am »
Two guys that I thought I wouldn't care for as announcers who are actually really good.   I'm sure they will be off the air at ESPN within a month or so.

Don't recall hearing Dusty but I agree that Orel does a much better job as a broadcaster than I would have expected.

Dusty, I don't like the guy but I admit, his 'regular baseball guy' persona works ok for me. I haven't heard him say anything stupid but I haven't really heard him that much.

A week or so ago during one of the Giants games, Orel was discussing Zito and how his head and hips are late during his motion and it's causing his front leg to land straight.  It was really interesting to hear him discuss how this affects his velocity and control.  I know this has been discussed with regards to Lidge around here but to see him go through it frame by frame was entertaining.

Haven't heard them too much on actual games, but I like Hershiser, although on BBTN he's got that crazy-eye look that's a little spooky.

Did you folks hear McCarver during the Cubs-Mets game today? I'll try to quote as precisely as I can.

"You know, the Dallas Cowboys at one point were considered 'America's Team.' If these Chicago Cubs can find a way to get to the playoffs, and find a way to get to the World Series, and find a way with Lou Piniella to win the World Series, that would be one of the top three athletic accomplishments in American history. I don't think I'm overstating that."

I heard that. Buck's silence following it was deafening.

I refuse to watch Fox Saturday baseball because of the number of times it has blacked out the Astros on MLB:EI.

That, and I don't like blood trickling from my ears after watching two innings of baseball.

I can't wait until Dusty questions a manager for taking his starter out of the game before he's thrown 140 pitches.
Crazy Joe McCluskey was fucking nuts.  It's why they called him Crazy Joe.

Didn't Hershiser gripe about Scotty "cheating" years ago? And later tried to backtrack and apologize? Scotty said something to the effect of: 'Why would I accept an apology from that guy?'

Fuck'em.
