Baseball America's best tools
« on: August 02, 2007, 10:09:08 am »
Here are the Astros on the list based on a survey of NL Managers:

Hit & Run Artist: Loretta #2
Best Curve Ball: Oswalt #2
Best Defensive Catcher: Ausmus #3

Former Astro Willy T was the 2nd fastest baserunner

The NL Managers also believe that ESPN's Stark's opinions are overrated as they voted Andruw Jones the best defensive outfielder.

Of course, Adam Everett not being listed as one of the 3 best defensive shortstops makes me question most of the list.

He should write a book about other people being overrated.

He's been injured since mid-June.  You expect managers to have a long-term memory?

Hell, we live in a culture that votes Prince Fielder ahead of Albert Pujols to start in the All-Star game due to Pujols having a down month.

The only thing more assinine than arguing over who should be an All Star is doing it a month after the game has been played.  That being said, Fielder had a 13 HR advantage (league leader), over .100 SLG advantage (league leader), a huge RBI (2nd in NL) and R advantage over Pujols.  It wasn't even close this year.
Let me explain something to you. Um, I am not "Mr. Lebowski". You're Mr. Lebowski. I'm the Dude. So that's what you call me. You know, that or, uh, His Dudeness, or uh, Duder, or El Duderino if you're not into the whole brevity thing.

As far as non-Astros go Martin seems like a weak pick as best defensive catcher. I don't recall Hamels having a very good curveball either the times we have faced him. Mainly fastball/changeup.

But Reyes and Rollins are better offensively.

Hamels' curve is as good as Barry Zito's was three or four years ago.

There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese.
