I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing AstroTurf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, torture of Bud Selig.

Bot 3:

If anyone is unclear, this is a very, very bad baseball team.

Lee K'd swinging, Loretta popped up, Lamb grounded out. Those last two were labeled "softly" by MLB Gameday.

But, they're going to wait out the next 5 or 6 games to see what direction to take.

If Drayton was actually talking about waiting until next weekend or very close to the 31st, then the Astros will have to face Pitt (have they won a game against the Roots this year?), Dodgers, and Pads.  The next 10 games could be ugly.

I'm sorry, I missed a Munson ground out.  That was Jennings flying to left, followed by a Burke infield out - not sure if it was caught on the fly by the SS, think it was.

Kearns BB

Ryan freaking Langerhans - hitting .165, OPS under .600 - crushes a 3-run HR.

7-2 WAS.

Flores flies to LF, Lee making the catch against the wall.

Jennings is making "let him walk for the two picks" look better and better with every pitch.

379 foot flyout for out number 2 on 1-0 pitch.  Cameraman though it was in the upper deck.

Not watching the game, but from the looks of it on GZ PBP, all 4 BBs have scored.

What tax is that? I guess I missed it.

It's a tax that levies a 1 percent tax on the gross receipts of businesses in Texas. There a few exceptions and a few deductions. This is replacing the state franchise tax that was based on net income for a corporation. The intention of the tax is to subsidise education funding. The lawmakers see this as a good way to increase funding without taxing individual taxpayers, but in my opinion it's only a temporary fix and can have a severe negative effect on the economy.

What the heck was Berkman trying to do there -- score from second on an infield hit?

Was Berkman pissed about Burke not scoring from first on his double?  Thus wanting to show people how to hustle?

Lee hit a bouncer right down the line at third, Zimmerman backhanded and jump threw a rainbow to first that Young went off the bag to grab. Infield single, but Lance kept going and Young threw him out by 30'.

Another boneheaded baserunning play, by the chief bonehead. He was the tying run, BTW

Uno-Dos-Tres in the 8th.  Now for the 2nd time in 3 days, Chad Cordero gets to face the Astros 8-9-1 spots in the order in the 9th.  Hopefully Pence will not be left in the on-deck circle like Monday.

Fringe players have been demoted and never seen again after plays like that.

Burke and Berkman have the same concentration level, coincidence?

I saw that play during lunch.  I think the runner would have been safe even if Loretta had been able to stretch and catch that toss.

no clue what food item was going through his head at the time.  probably mashed potatoes and cream gravy with a side of buttermilk biscuits.  nobody in baseball could have scored on that play, even if the catch at first was bobbled.  if the throw sails he scores anyway.

Yeah, but Belliard was barely halfway down the first base line when Burke got the ball. And there were two outs.

It was doubly dumb.

Nice leadoff single by Munson.  He's up to .295 now.

Palmeiro can't get the bunt down in his first two attempts at it.

Once again, it's the little things that add up: Pence striking out with a man on 3rd and 1 out (although I guess Berkman picked him up on that one), Berkman running into an obvious out at the plate, Palmeiro (like seemingly everybody else this season) failing to get the sac down.

Let's see if Pence can deliver some magic.

pence seemed a bit intimidated by cordero on that last at-bat, like he was gunshy waiting for the slider.  he had some good fastballs to hit, especially the 0-0 and two 1-2's, but never let loose with his swing like we've seen at times this year.  perhaps he was thinking too much looking to just dump a single over the infield.  incidentally, a bunt or chopper down the third base line toward zimmerman would have likely done the trick.

it's interesting how since the book is out on pence he knows that he can't just rear back and swing at whatever he feels like, a certain reckless power that was much of the key to his early success.  so now he has to be selective, to think about what he will do with all manner of pitches and locations, and at the same time retain awareness of the game situation, pitcher's tendencies, and still be able to shut off his mind and let loose when he gets the pitch he wants.  also interesting that certain players like alfonso soriano are able to remain successful without ever getting too far away from the crazy rookie strategy of hitting.

Pence has started chasing FBs in his eyes. the C tried to get Cordero to throw one up there with two strikes, but he missed.

i just watched the K in the 7th with the bases loaded. strike three was in his eyes.
