Houston Astros @ LA Dodgers 6/6/88

I found my old scorebook from when I was a kid. Don't know if anyone is interested or not but I have insomnia and thought I would do a play by play.

Jaysus, look at that Astros lineup. Haven't heard some of those names in years.

This should be interesting... won't make it to the end either, but fire away.

Sorry to say that I don't know that much about all those 80s Astros teams.  They are near the list of the top of my Strat-O-Matic projects to complete, though.

I always tracked them. I only got to watch baseball on Saturday and Monday (lived in the country no cable available) and when the Astros were on I always kept score. Like a day in Heaven.

We had some network through the cable company called Home Sports Entertainment (HSE) or something similar... I think we got all the Astros and Rangers games on it, no matter where they were. Of course, that was many Shiner Bocks ago, so the memory may be a little on the hazy side... used to pile a bunch of people from the UH dorms into a couple cars and head over to the folks' house to watch stuff on HSE that we couldn't get on campus.

I'm just curious.

I grew up (born 1971) a Cleveland Indians fan in rural NE Ohio and I remember that most games were not televised.  On the occasions--maybe once a week or so--where they were on, my brothers and I huddled around the set to see the game.  But getting to see the team play live was the exception, not the rule.

We've come a long way, baby.

That was a great trade. If we only knew what we had in Schilling. If I remember correctly he clashed with one of the coaches and was traded for Jason Grimsley.

Finley and Harnisch did ok for us though.

Very cool - thanks for doing that. I was a month shy of my 10th birthday when this game was played, and a season away from really getting interested in baseball and the Astros.

Interesting to note that this was less than three weeks before a certain young catcher made his MLB debut for the Astros. Does anyone remember -- when Biggio was called up, did the Astros keep three catchers, or was there another move with Ashby or Trevino?
