Boras calls for best-of-nine World Series
« on: June 30, 2007, 10:17:38 pm »
The link

It seems to me that making the World Series more like the Super Bowl could only be a REALLY GREAT THING, especially if it generates more revenue for Boras and turns it into a great opportunity to show cool commercials rather than spotlight the actual contest on the field.

Pass.

And yes, I know the WS was best-of-nine for a few years ca. 1920.  If anyone not named Boras wants to make a case that it should be again (without using the words "super" or "bowl" in their reasoning), I'd be happy to listen.  Thanks.

MLB is a nasty mixture of high finance and tradition with the former it seems becoming more important than the latter.  Boras has been rightly called many things, but if nothing else he is a financially sharp businessman.  The owners may hold their nose while listening to the proposal.

"I know from an owner's perspective, this is a gold mine," Boras said. "To have a World Series Weekend, WSW, I think it will create a stage that the game has not seen."

Boras wanting the owners to make more is like Satan wanting me to get the beach house in Heaven.

Good idea or bad idea, Boras is suggesting this because it is good for him. The grander stage will be when he holds these owners up for this money that winter. No thanks, Satan.

Why should anyone listen to what Boras has to say if they don't have to?

Game 5 of a 5 game sweep would be hideous. And pointless.
Everyone's talking, few of them know
The rest are pretending, they put on a show
And if there's a message I guess this is it
Truth isn't easy, the easy part's shit

Yippee!  November baseball in Boston!
