Astros @ Rockies rubber game - 6/7/07
« on: June 07, 2007, 01:32:23 pm »
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe a loss today would drop the Astros to a season-low 11 games under .500.  Personally, I'd like to see them start moving in the other direction.

Git 'er done, Roy.

It's the same in Austin.  We're not getting any pre-game (bullriding instead), but TWC will pick up the game on channel 54 at 2pm (according to their website).

I believe those things are what one of my gay friends calls vomitocious.  Fogg cannot possibly have a significant other (of either sex) because they would never let him get away with that.

Roy has been pretty good this year.

The problem is, we need him to be Roy, not pretty good.

Amazing that BudGirl was not first with this line.

I think the problem is that Gar deels the squeeze is becoming predictable.

Do you want pitch by pitch or just the outcome of the AB?  I may have to alternate between the two (repairman, 2yr old yelling I gotta go potty, etc)

I'm no horror fan, but that movie scared the living hell out of me.

By contrast, the other movie I've heard nominated for "scariest" - The Shining - bored me to sleep and was vastly inferior to the book.

2 run homerun to right center!!! Berkman seems to be catching on to this baseball thing.

Caballo

It is next in my King queue after I drag myself through the rest of The Dark Tower (currently on book 5).

I really liked the Dark Tower series for the most part. But man, the last book has parts that draaaaaaaaaag on forever. The first 4 books are incredible.

And yeah, It is scary as hell. I read it when I was somewhere between 10-13. I still can't fall asleep with my closet door open.

I figured eventually he would find his swing and then some teams were going to PAY big time.  I hope it's a prolonged massacre.

I think the problem is that Gar deels the squeeze is becoming predictable.

Krazy Eyez Killah
strike
ball
ball - Lee steals second.  Sneaky monkey! (19-21 last year.  Why can't he run on the basepaths then?)
strike
WAY outside for ball 3
sharp hit to third, clanked off the glove for a hit(?) Lee to third.

Still 2 down.

No, you guys are doing great.  I just had to laugh that Brad's double "reads" like a Milo call on the radio where you hear Milo clammoring about, yet not telling you exaclty what happened until a few minutes later.

HIGH ball 2 (Julio pitching now, by the way.)
Low, ball 3 (95 mph)
pop up foul....gets into the dugout.  3-2
Looks bad swinging on a slider in the dirt.  K for out number 2.

Berkman

Strike one swinging, throws his bat into the stands.  (Looked really weird in the batters box, like he had a hurt leg or something...hmm...)
Low ball 1
Smokes a liner foul to the left side (batting lefty, btw)
ball in the dirt, 2-2
ball 3 (almost swung...on appeal ump says no swing...that coulda been interesting)
ball 4 in the dirt.  2 out walk.

Just reporting the facts.  Oswalt, 3.39; Sampson, 3.43.

The fact that we view Oswalt as slumping at 3.39 is rather telling.

Interesting that right now the key hit is Brad Ausmus' double.  Without the Johnny Bench imitation by Bad Brad, Roy would be looking at a tie game from his own doing.  The BBGs can be cruel Roy, very cruel.

I don't remember this as a problem before last year, but it's certainly been a problem since.

Roy has done it a lot in the past.

The problem was, in the past, it was just allowing a run or two in a 2-1 game. Seems like this year its 2 or 3.

Damn people.  I walk away for 10 minutes and you let this happen?

Tom Martin in to pitch.  3.86 ERA.  Lefty

Strike 1
foul ball rolls past first, strike 2.
way outside, ball 1
fly to right.  and yer out.  (I hate Luke's "aw shit" look EVERY TIME he flies out.)

UH...

What?

OK, not really because Baggy would've probably taken his foot off the bag and jumped for it.  I just meant a guy any shorter than Lance could've never reached that ball without taking his foot off the bag.  Mo's throw was rushed and quite high.

Yes of course that was the reason.  Although as wild as the throw was, he might have been wiser to hold on to the ball.

One out, Holliday on first.

Father's Day Grill Set 6/17...first 10,000.  I got one of these a couple years ago.  Not bad!

Chad Qualls in to pitch.  Atkins the batter.

Takes strike 1.
outside ball 1.
Swinging foul past third, strike 2.
throw to first...nothing doing.
Foul tip...Ausmus hangs on!  K for out number 2.

He barely kept his toe on the bag and his arm was extended all the way up.  Marcus Giles would've needed a jet pack to catch that thing.

Hawpe up

Strike one swinging
Ball way up high
Watches strike 2 (looked low).
Ball outside., 2-2
Line drive to center.  Holliday thinks about testing Pence, decides not to, Pence hits the cutoff man and Everett nearly gets him at second (but doesn't).

First and second, 2 outs.

Anyone with MLB.tv or Extra Innings might want to tune in the Boston-Oakland game.

The A's only baserunner, through 7, has (get this) reached on a Julio Lugo error.

Going to the 8th, 1-0 Boston.

Ball 1
Ball 2
Strike (looking) right down the middle.
Ball 3
Groundball to Everett's right, difficult play made to look ridiculously easy.  Got him by three steps.  3 out.

you do not get it, Amy. that was a very good throw considering how he had to make the play. it was a bang-bang play at first.

What a horrible pitch by Wheeler.  Ausmus set up outside and Wheeler threw it up and in.

good job Wheeler.

Got to see that inning.  He had no control of the strike zone at all.  He had to challenge them and hope for the best.

Fuckin hell.  This team is completely snakebit.

When the offense shows up, the pitching falters.

When the pitching is good, the bats go cold.

What happened on that last hit? Do-Ray said it scooted under AE's glove.

Even if he'd gloved it, Zero chance at a DP.  Run would have scored anyway.

bad luck, but also bad pitches on the walk, the sac fly and the winning hit.

If only, Ausmus and AE would have hit more, and if Trever werent in the bullpen, the Astros would have won this one.  Oh, and thanks Jerry.

They didn't exactly scald any off of him.  Kaz was a dink double.  Helton should have been out on a soft liner.  Holliday's was probably the hardest and that wasn't a "shot"  Hawpe's fly ball was not deep at all.  The walk to Atkins was about the only thing and they seemed to be pitching around him to set up the force at home.

Honestly Wheeler has been struggling mightily lately.  Still getting the job done most days, but you could almost see this comming.

What happened on that last hit? Do-Ray said it scooted under AE's glove.

The infield is playing in at the corners and middle pinched for a double play. Wheeler makes Tulowski look really bad on two sliders away.  He then throws a fastball away that comes nowhere near the plate.  Tulowski is leaning over the plate, Aumus must of called for a pitch away because he set up outside.  Wheeler (for some unknown reason) threw up and in and right in the zone where Tulowski can pull the ball instead of roll over it.  He hits it in the hole and AE cannot get back to the normal ss position to field it.

Game over.

no way were they pitching around him. that walk moved the winning run to second.

Lee's not hanging on to the liner when he fell was the killer.

Agreed.  Matsui lucked into his hit, Helton is helped by Lee's bad read, but the others were solid contact and really were bad pitching by Wheeler.  He had nothing to get these guys out today.

Actually, it looked like Wheeler just didn't know where the ball was going so he went ahead and challenged Hawpe hoping for the best.  His walk to Atkins didn't look like it was to setup anything.  He was just off today.

Said the lack of run support has given rise to his need to have to pitch a perfect game every time out.
