....no Albers per postgame.
I was wondering why Albers instead of Sampson. Any reason given other than common sense?
So, make a nice play in the field, lead off the next inning. Wife gives birth, start two days later.Got it.
prav, I guess there's your answer.NYCU:"Why the pitching change? No one has written a thing about why. "
"Although he pitched only four games ago, Sampson will be pitching on normal rest because of Monday's off-day..."
They're skipping Albers who is now scheduled to start the series v. Rangers on Friday.
I'm not sure you can call the gap during which your first baby is born as "normal rest".
They're hoping to benefit from the lingering adrenalin rush.
Not to be callous, but you see guys go out after a personal tragedy and put together their A+ game (The DQ and Brett Favre spring to mind). Maybe a positive experience brings about the same mojo.
He pitched pretty well. As a practical matter, he pitched while she was still in the hospital w/ professional care. She'll be coming home today, and he's likely excused for the weekend.
"You always start a guy the day after he has a baby," Garner said with a smile. "He's on a roll, man. Things are going good." Nice theory, but there's likely more to it than that. With Jason Jennings slated to come off the disabled list in time to start May 29 against the Reds, Albers is the most likely candidate to go to Triple-A at that time. If he started Wednesday, Albers would have three starts before Jennings returned, with Sampson receiving only two. This way, Sampson, who's had better results than Albers, gets the extra start. Albers will pitch Friday against the Rangers and again next Wednesday in San Francisco, and assuming he's the odd man out when Jennings is ready, he'd go to Triple-A and Jennings would assume his spot in the rotation. Jennings will make two rehab starts -- Thursday in Corpus Christi, and Tuesday in Round Rock. He could be ready to return to the Astros for a May 27 start, but that's Roy Oswalt's day to pitch. Instead, Jennings will likely open the homestand following an off-day on May 28.
