Just texted gleach down in the Diamond Club.  Told him to tell Barry to go fuck himself, from me.

ETA:  gleach says to watch for him being escorted from behind the plate.

i read a pretty average article on the train to work this morning about wilfredo rodriuez:  http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/chronicle/archive/2007/05/15/SPG2JPQRA81.DTL

i very fondly remember being drunk at island bowl in galveston, literally in the process of rolling, while watching bonds hit this home run on the tv above me.

Because otherwise we get one baseball game a night?  This way I get all games.

Come home.  Watch east coast baseball for an hour.  Watch the Astros.  Watch Vin Scully.  Go to bed.

They were running the Astros Wives Charity Cookbook booth at fanfest a few years ago. My dad wanted to buy ten cookbooks as his go-to gift for the year, but for some reason he had to fill out individual credit card slips for each book, so I spent about 15 minutes making awkward small talk with Mrs. Lidge while trying not to let Mrs. Everett out my sight.

Carlos apparently didn't want to be shown up at the plate by Woody.

If Lee had a Barry sized ego (but with a sense of humor too) he'd have the 3rd base coach hand him his stick horse and ride it on home.

Wally Bell's strike zone is in widescreen tonight.  But Q is right because he's giving Morris his curve on the inside but not Woody despite them looking remarkably similar.  Strike 1 and strike 3 to Woody were about 3 feet apart.

I fucking hate Wally Bell.

I was going to be nice and just say Wally had an appointment for a rub and a tug somewhere and had to get the game over with quickly, but yeah that strike 3 to Woody was pretty rediculous.

I hope neither wife consults their husbands for batting tips.

Gordon's Dry Gin and Noilly Prat vermouth, I'm doing an experiment

If you want a real experiment, try about 2/3rds of a two liter bottle of Mountain Dew, top off the bottle with vodka (brand is at your discretion, you can't taste it anyway) and mix in a package of powdered Kool-Aid (I used grape back in the day).  It's mindblowing.  I discovered it freshman year in college from the senior starting ahead of me on the football team.  We staggered through Greek Week walking up and down fraternity row drinking that stuff.  It will definitely do the job if you're looking to lose all memory of a day.  Or two.

Quick comments while I catch up:

I have to work tonight, so what better way than to be watching the game on the big screen projector in the conference room...unless it was HD.

Mrs. Everett and Mrs Ensberg make me think Adam and Mo can swing the bat.....I'll leave it there.

I have the wive's cookbook from a few years back. Very nice.

I thought Morris looked like a female body part as a co-ard....but as a gint, woah.

Ask Everett who the greatest Astro has been:

Bagwell AND Biggio.....but maybe Lance ultimately.

I think Everett may be one of the best ever, and though I favor Bagwell, Biggio has a good case. Berkman? Adam must know something I don't.

Lets go Lamb.
There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese.

Anybody who has Time Warner Cable (or Comcast, whatever the hell it is we have now) and a DVR and watching this in HD want to do an experiment for me?  For some reason, I can't do any rewind/replays on channel 302.  Is this just me?  I've switched to other channels and everything is working as normal, it's just 302/Astros.  I get a blank screen when I hit the "<<" button.

Ever try Boodles?  Cheap, and in a cool square bottle to boot.

Boodles is good, Tanqueray of course, I like Hendricks just cold.  Gordon's does not make me puke and Plymouths can be smooth, as a martini.

Good grief that was a terrible call.

Although I can't see it again because I can't rewind.  Anybody?  Anybody?  Is this just my problem?  It's only happening on 302.

And the players don't all look like Ausmus and Biggio.  Some of these guys undoubtedly married women from the pool they could attract when they were college or minor league nobodies, which is likely pretty different from the kind of women they can attract as major leaguers.

I used to think the same thing til I heard the story about Baggy's girlfriend.

The only thing that makes me think some of these guys aren't total jerks is that I've heard from two totally credible sources that Craig Biggio never goes out drinking on road trips, is the first to report back to the hotel, and wouldn't dream of cheating on Patty.

Good for him.

There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese.

It never fails to amaze me how brazen and entitled some totally recognizable figures are with their infidelity.  I work with media companies and so have decent exposure to some notable names and half of them don't even try and hide the fact that their willing to jump in the sack with anything that jiggles around them.  I know of one media mogul with a highly regarded marriage in the press who has special business cards printed up to hand out to women at clubs on business trips.

It IS amazing.

The story I heard was from my best friend from grade school.  His wife (now) is a hair artist (or whatever the fuck they're called) in the Galleria area (barbers make $10/hr, hair artists make $250/hr I was told).

Baggy's girlfriend is one of her clients.  Comes in and pays with cash Baggy gives her.  She just sits and gossips about fucking Baggy the whole time (and has no reason to lie about it, I'm told).

I mean.  YOU LIVE HERE, ASSHOLE.  At least give your wife THAT respect.

The only thing that makes me think some of these guys aren't total jerks is that I've heard from two totally credible sources that Craig Biggio never goes out drinking on road trips, is the first to report back to the hotel, and wouldn't dream of cheating on Patty.

I happened to stay in the same hotel as the Astros a number of years ago. There was a group of guys in the bar that stayed there all night first eating and then drinking. Bagwell was the ringleader. Others included Ausmus and Wade Miller. Biggio appeared early on, drank 3/4 of one Miller Lite and then disappeared.

Other guys and small groups came and went, but those guys stuck around all night. I happened to be sitting close to where they were, so I could hear most of what they were talking about and quietly ask a question or two if an appropriate  moment presented itself. They were hanging out watching SportsCenter, making fun of Biggio's golf game, making fun of Lance's goofiness, basically about the same as any goup of us goobers at a bar except that they are professional baseball players and we are not.

Bagwell got the check for everyone at the end of the night. When printed out it was amazingly long, and to my surprise he looked at each and every item before throwing down is American Express card. He then ordered a triple scotch on the rocks (a triple!) and beat it up to his room.

So, no, in my very limited experience Biggio does not hang out drinking with the guys.

The Giants players pulled him back out on the field.   He is back behind the plate.

How marvelously dramatic.

We call it Where's Waldo in these here parts.

Yeah, it was a joke.  Wally... Waldo... work with me here.

Why don't YOU want to hear it?  I didn't either.

But I did.

My friend's wife has a quality bullshit meter.  This wasn't some ho that came in, this woman had no reason to lie about it.

I had a long talk with a certain member of the broadcast team one spring training about the players on the '00 team and their 'girls in every port.'  It made me think even more that I had nothing in common with pro athletes.

...and that is fine for you. I know he was married to sluttu, and he has to have points taken off for that, but I don't want to give too much credit to a nice dirl that would admit to openly having an affair with a married city icon to everybody who will listen just to get attention. I don't say it is wrong, just not a perfect source to me.

So, no, in my very limited experience Biggio does not hang out drinking with the guys.

Maybe his DUI experience years ago scared him straight.  The very next spring training he showed up with brand new wife in tow and I haven't heard of him being up to mischief since.  If he does, he keeps it very quiet.

I have a buddy who is very good friends with Shaune Bagwell's gynaecologist. I am not making this up. He assures me that he's privy to all sorts of interesting information, but damn it, a man has to have some standards.

YES.  Obviously.  I'm saying it wasn't like some low class stereotypical ho walking into a salon and gossiping.  This was this woman, of some class gossiping relatively quietly to her hair dresser about who was paying for this "touch up."

OF COURSE SHE'S A HO - SHE FUCKED JEFF BAGWELL.

Of course Mr. Doe probably gets more action than the rest of us put together, so don't knock him too hard.

Late in the season during playoff drives, sure. Otherwise, who knows? He sure gets to watch Grey's Anatomy whenever the fuck he wants to.

You husband changes the channel while you try to watch the Astros games because he's bored by it

Start over.  Explain.

I can see some game against the Pirates.  But tonight?

Is it just me or does Lance look pretty pathetic this season batting righthanded?  I haven't looked at the stats... just from what I've seen he looks quite uncomfortable.

Postgame reporting that Sampson will pitch tomorrow night instead of Albers.  No explanation given yet.

Albers sucks?

the writing is really up there.  he has struck in his last two AB's (tonight and sunday) and looked bad doing it.  i guess am Ok with lamb's less than stellar glove than having 14's less than zero bat.

Iceberg's batting .215 with 1 K every 4 at-bats, zero power and is now not getting walks (0 in his last 18 at-bats).  His OPS is superior only to Quintero, Everett and the pitching staff.  He's hitting worse than last year - which sucked arse and was worse than the year before.

He's done.

NO WAY.

Not that I know of--how can I check?

But, I would not be able to read your posts, would I?

Are you putting a space between Jane and Doe?

Lamb is the 3b.  Live with the bad throws and wooden glove.

ok did not know it was called Bruce's Philosopher song.  I thought the title was Drunken Philosopher's song.  Never got the Bruce reference.

Yeah, everyone is named either Bruce or Sheila in Australia.  Not sure why none of this got through.

Yeah, it takes a couple of weeks after grading finals for my brain to function again.  It is still stuck on neutral, just coasting.
