That had to hurt!
« on: May 15, 2007, 10:45:27 am »
Quote
With two outs in the top of the third inning, Wisconsin shortstop Carlos Triunfel lined Italiano's pitch right back up the middle, striking the 21-year-old right-hander on the forehead and caroming into the crowd for a ground-rule double.

Ain't this a grand game. No one's ever seen it all. That had to be some headache.

The one off Billy Wagner's head came back to the dugout, IIRC.

And some bump on the head.

Few things make my belly churn, but hearing that ball hit Billy's dome just gives me the willies ever time.  It sounds too much like his melon popping.

Obvioisly baseball card pictures in that day are mostly posed and not actually action shots, but two of Score's cards have him in a "post" delivery pose and he has his glove nearly behind his back with his face out in front just asking for a comebacker.

I sent that video in to astrosdaily a couple years ago.  I used to always have a tape in the VCR so in case something extraordinary happened, I could press record.  I knew the instant it happened that it would be an incident long remembered by Astros fans.

This link agrees. "With a catapulting delivery that left him in an awkward fielding position."

I did notice that there were multiple minority players prominently shown in the camera shot.  I really get tired of all the racial crap that gets placed on the Astros and Drayton.

Small world... My wife and I are looking to sell our place here in Pennsylvania and get back to Texas, and over the weekend met with a realtor who used to work for the Dbacks. When I said I was an Astros fan, that game was one of the first things he brought up (he was at the game).

You remember that one time, when Kelly Stinette went all Maxwell's Silver Hammer on your redneck closers temple?

That was awesome.

One of the scarier moments of my life came when my brother was an all star in little league as a 12 year old.  The ball got smoked up the middle and his cap came flying off and he went down hard. I was playing CF (they had a couple of the older brothers helping them work out to get 9 per side for their games- and the ball went past me and rolled to the fence, as I wasn't playing it after seeing Matt go down like a sack of bricks.

Thankfully, it didn't hit his mellon, just the top of his cap- and he went down out of surprise/fear.  The ball traveled an extra 140 feet (200 foot fence) after hitting his head. Could have killed him I think if it was 6 inches lower.

That Billy Wagner deal was brutal. It makes you sick to your stomach for a long time seeing something like that- especially when it's a friend/loved one down.

That was about a foot away from being a 1-5 flyout.  Never seen that.
You may ask yourself, "How do I work this?"
