Thank you, thunderstorm.

Looks like, for a change, I'm relying on you good people of the GZ tonight for PBP.

Fucking DirecTV.

Holy shit I forgot how much utter chaos thunderstorms can do when one wants to watch something on television.  Although it beats having my tv slide down a muddy ass cliff into the ocean.

It's getting to look like little league, where everyone has to play so no one's feelings are hurt.

Garner is gonna drive me crazy if he keeps flip-flopping like this.

He's just trying to find a combo that isn't going to leave a small army on base every night.

The good news is, for every walk MoBerg takes, Lane will hit a flyball that won't result in a runner being on base.

But when a lineup works, will he leave it alone?  NO.

I couldn't agree more. I have Dish Network and a strong rain can knock out my signal. Hopefully (knocks on wood) the storm has passed my section of town.

Makes me love MMP all the more, though. There can be that bad of a storm and the game goes on as scheduled. No delays, no rain soaked players OR fans! Yay for retractable roof ballparks!

None.  Did not say one had.

But even after our last two wins, he did not stick with that lineup again.

Well, this is interesting.  The DirecTV EI channel that's supposed to be showing the FSN Cincy broadcast of the game is instead showing poker.  The regular FSN Cincy channel blacked out as soon as the pregame show was over.  Good thing I have MLBTV, even though I hate watching on the computer screen.

PBP would be greatly appreciated, as I'm stuck at the office for at least another 30 minutes.

With the office testing the emergency alert system to boot.

Good times.

Griffey pegs a high one to RF.

Conine hits one up the middle, snagged by Everett, out.

I'll let you do PBP, but to be helpful to others, you might want to put the inning and score in the subject line.

Apparently some moron didn't make the change to pull the Cincy feed for EI instead of the FSSW feed, since they changed the schedule a couple of days ago due to the Rockets.  I called DirecTV to complain and they said several people have called and they are "escalating it" whatever that means.

Oh, and GO 'STROS!!

Alright Amy, cheer on Bradley

ball 1
strike 1 swinging
basehit Junya fucks up again taking 2B

I was cheering for him.  It's a shame his buddies stranded him.  I can't post much while watching MLBTV because the 700K feed slows my connection down.

How's the quality on the 700k feed?  Is it that much better?

It's quite noticeably better than the 400K.  You get a bigger clearer picture on the minimized view and on the full screen view it's far, far clearer.

Good news, DirecTV managed to get the FSN Cincy broadcast on 638 unblacked out (that can't be correct grammar, sorry).  So I swtiched to the 400K feed so I can just use the audio of JD and Brownie.

Sorry, internet connection wimped out for a second.

Lee hits a soft liner up the middle over SS for a single.

Lane flies out

Pence flies out to deep CF, Berkman to 3rd.

Everett pops out in foul territory by 1b. 3 outs 2 stranded.

What happened. I had changed the channel.

Okur goes up for a long jumper.  Howard lunges at him to defend it and hits Okur pretty hard.  Not FLAGRANT, but hard.  Okur goes down.  On the way up, Okur pushed Howard pretty hard for all to see.  Howard puts his arms up and looks at the ref (not Bevetta) and says "I didn't do anything."

Bevetta gets in between them and T's up Howard.  No matter how you watched it, there's NO fucking way it was on Howard, if ANYone.

So tomorrow I'm headed to New Orleans for the weekend. I've been several times, but am always interested in folks favorite places to eat/drink/wander around/score crack/etc... Anyone got a New Orleans favorite?

You want to see me cry?

Our top two are gone.  We can't find it in our hearts to return to NO yet.  Too painful.  We got married there.  Had our honeymoon there.  I went to two Mardi Graseses and celebrated every New Years there from 1993 thru 2002.

Damn you.

Rodriguez talks it over with Mansolino after a 1-1 count.

Bunts foul for strike 2.

Makes a bunt back to pitcher. Ausmus to 2nd. Wandy out at 1st.

Probably could have gotten Ausmus at 2nd, but pitcher did not make the throw there.

Biggio flies to LF.

2 out. Ausmus on 2nd.

Strategy question: with a runner on 2nd, 1 out, don't you want to try to go to right field there and at least advance the runner rather than pulling the ball to left?

Top two?

I was there in November and shocked by how bad it still was. All the medians of the streets in the garden district were piled with debris from gutted houses, as if the Katrina happened 2 months before and not 14. I was blown away.

That being said, it's climbing back. Hell, the Camelia Grill opened back up last week so I know where to go for a 4 am chili omelette. I don't think it will ever be the same as the city I visited several times every year as a kid and in high school and a few times in college, but it's working it's way back to a great place to visit.

Now they are arguing whether or not the 15 or 16th is a Wednesday. Milo screams "free carwash" and then starts crooning a modified version of "Tiny Bubbles."

That exchange made a quick 5 minute ride home seem like a lengthy 5 minutes with one's head being held underwater. Milo seems to develop a case of Tourette's whenever the Bimbette enters his boothspace, continually interjecting his mid-20th century bad bullshit into an already tiresome promo piece. (My apologies to those actually afflicted with TS.) He makes it a point to sing some shit while she is talking as fast as she can to expedite this particular merit badge, then has the audacity to ask her what she just said. Someone needs to drive Milo out into the country and drop him off at remote 4-way stop. He would never find his way home.

Galatoire's is so fucking classic. It's what New Orleans always has been. And they serve fantastic martinis.

I usually stay with a family friend who lives in the garden district. Basically I eat a lot when I go to New Orleans.

I love the po-boys at Domilise's down at Tchoupoutoulis (I can never spell that). Frankie's and Johnny's, Camella's. Obviously wandering around the quarter drinking. Cafe au lait and beignets are Dumonde are something I do more out of tradition and homage than anything else, but I always do it all the same. Likewise oysters at Felix's.

I'm just interested in finding new places.

As far as NO goes, I recall the Gumbo Shop (or was it Gumbeaux?) in the quarter being a good place for lunch or to stop by for an afternoon snack when it starts raining.  Last time I was there (2002?) my dad took us to Antoine's for dinner and it was great, although probably pricey.  Cafe Du Monde was always the breakfast tradition for us.  Oh, and the Sunday jazz brunch at the Court of Two Sisters.

We're kindred spirits my maign. those are my old spots too. Tchoupitoulas. Try Rock n Bowl in midcity for a great band night out. I've got a soft spot in my heart for Antoine's, where I have a waiter, Jimmy the C. My waiter at the G spot is Reynard. Classic guy. Both of them. Dickie Brennan's Steak House is a good bet, as is Bourbon House, another of his restaurants. Dickie and I went to school together so I may be a bit biased. Check out Port o' Call in the Marigny.

It does seem that since a couple of guys have started warming up with the bats, the whole lineup, whatever the makeup or order, seems to be getting together as a whole. Batting averages are on the rise.

I really can't stand this little punk Phillips.  He swung and missed a couple of pitches ago and whacked his bat on the ground.  And now he thinks he's going to get somewhere popping off at the ump.

Sounds good. I've been to Antoine's but not in a while. I've heard good things about Bourbon house. I will steer the crowd to those places.

Thanks.

I don't know if anyone else caught it, but last night in the 1st inning after the Berkman-to-Roy putout of Phillips... I don't know if it was my imagination... but the camera seemed to catch Phillips piss-ily tossing his helmet off and it nearly (or did) hit Roy, and Roy just had this WTF look on his face.  Anyone else see that?

Yep, I just went back and watched it.  Phillips was out of the shot, but it looked like he beat his helmet on the ground a couple of times and then threw it.  The helmet bounced in Roy's direction and it seemed to catch him by surprise and he looked back toward Phillips like WTF??  What a jerk.

It perplexes me that a team with a heralded defense in the regular season is letting a bunch of no-name punks walk all over them in this series.

Saarloser on to pitch

I'll tell you what. Saarloos might not have the sexiest of stuff, and is a AAAA pitcher at best, but I was at a game in Chicago in the summer of 2001 or 2002 when he pitched one of the ballsiest games I've ever seen. He was tossing junk after suspect junk at that Cubbie lineup daring them to knock him around the yard. Each weak pop up was met with increasing frustration from the cub lineup, while the bleary-eyed shirtless Wrigley masses drank and complained. He didn't have shit, but he went right after the Cubs challenging them to make something of the crap he was showing and shut them down for a gorgeous win. It was one of the most enjoyable pitching performances I've ever seen.

Also, the day before I was at a game in Milwaukee where Munro shut down the Brewers. Yes, it was a golden era for Astros pitching.

I'll always have fond memories of his gutsy performances late in '04 and in the postseason that year, even if he didn't blossom into anything special long-term.  Now, Miceli and Gallo are different stories.

I always felt fairly confident in his starts. I knew he wouldn't shut the other team down, but I never felt like he was going to blow up either. He seemed to have the toughness to work through trouble patches, and he wouldn't get flustered easily.

Very difficult to outplay a home team at altitude in the 4th.

Do you remember the last Rockets game 7?

We were watching the Rockets on the left.  All of a sudden, I look over to the right.  5-4 Not Us.  What.  The.  Fuck?

Qualls walked the lead off man.  There's the first problem.  Then Phillips bounces a ball down the 3b line.  It goes right down by the padded wall.  I can only think that Lee thought it might bounce out because the angle he took intersected this slow bouncer at the corner.  By that time Phillips is standing on 3rd.  Infield in, Griffey bounces a high chop off Berkman's glove. (forgot this part) Griffey stole 2nd, the throw bounced into center, he moves over to 3d. Conine easy high pop to left.

The ref didn't stop Kirilenko from slapping away Yao's weak shit in the paint.

Somebody needs to teach Yao a real hook.  That fadeaway "jump" shot is useless.

You would think a 7'6 sky hook would be unbeatable.  You.  Would.  Think.

So my husband is watching the end of the Rocket's fiasco, and I am flipping over to GameDay.  HOME RUN flashes across the top.  Momentarily I am estatic, then I realize that it is on the RR Express game instead of the Astros.  RR up 7-4 over NO in the top of 8th.

This team looks like it is flat out mentally fried.
I mean mid September, 23 games out of first, cleanup hitter tested positive for steroids, 3 or 4 season ending injuries plus a bonus rare tropical disease, second baseman shagging the catcher's wife, several sulking, drama-queening free agents to be, Vegas mogul-wannabe owner, call-in show Apocalypse, full on fan mutiny, fistfights over the clubhouse spread, charter plane trashing, boozing yourself to sleep fried...
It's barely May.

I think he needs 1 more to tie Yaz, who has 646.  If that was 645 for Biggio, then he only needs 20 more this year to tie Brett at 665, which would tie him for 5th all-time.

I think that is reachable.  Of course, he needs to stop hitting triples.

He'll do it, but he's gotta cut back on those triples.

Ditto Jane, ha.

This is where not having a good defensive replacement for Everett could hurt us.  Loretta playing SS next to Biggio at 2B is a BAD idea.

No, it won't hurt me, but the Astros could really use Eric the Red in situations like this.

Please tell me that single to left wasn't something that Everett would have gobbled up.

It was pretty far in the hole.  With Freel's speed, he probably would've been safe.

ran about 30 yards to get that.  But, that was until the creaky dp that they turned to end the game.

Yep, they just showed that too. Junyah was busting it down the line, eh?

Let's hope this win gets the boys going in the right direction...  Nice come back, but I don't like wasting Wandy's good outing...

How was it wasted? The Astros won. What you don't like doesn't really matter.

Somehow, had this been Roy Oswalt losing a chance for a win, the *care* factor would've been just a tad higher (CY Youngs come that way to a guy like Roy).  But you're right either way: it's the win that matters.

Wandy deserved a win, no doubt. He can duke out Qualls in Kangaroo court.
