Let it not go unmentioned...
« on: April 05, 2007, 01:02:22 pm »
Since no one else has addressed the elephant in the room, I will. Today at 9:39:17 AM Central Daylight Saving Time, Mr. Pravata entered the ranks of the Illuminati with his 15,000th post, fittingly as a NYCU. Please reflect on this with a mixture of reverence and horror, and pay your respects to the magnificent bastard who reads the worst of the worst so we don't have to. (Except those of you who don't really give a shit. You can just view this dubious achievement with a mixture of contempt and apathy.)

OK, carry on.
"We live in a society of laws. Why do you think I took you to all those Police Academy movies? For fun? Well, I didn't hear anybody laughing, did you?"
Say hi on the Twitter

Elephant? Hey! I mean all the beer and my sedentary life style, you'd be an elephant too buddy!  I view the recognition much like Jeff Bagwell did, standing on 3d, after just hitting for the cycle, when they asked him if he'd like to keep the ball.  15,000 was just like most of the other posts, 90% someone elses words.

Well done.  As long as Dick Justice is out there, we need pravata on that wall.

I'm a little dubious about post totals in general.  On the one hand, they are an impressive record of one's contributions to the site.  On the other, a casual passerby (Clark) sees 15,000 and says, "Jesus, this guy lives here."  And it is a little scary sometimes how fast one's own total can go up.

Of course, we know if one has a thought in one's head and/or has something to say, one can breeze through here for 10 minutes a day and put up 4-5 decent posts, leading to an impressive overall total.  Meantime Mr. Clark is still trying to figure out how to register for the 50th time and not get caught by the TZOL or HH, whichever is worse.

At any rate, congratulations on your 15,000th bon mot.  In recognition of this, I have taken the liberty to nominate you for the 19th Annual Lumberton-Vidor Cousin-to-Wife/Sister-to-Lover Award.  It is about the highest honor one can receive in (some of) these parts, and is a testament to a lifetime of achievement in the field of inbrededness.  You'll face some stiff competition - the area trailer parks usually throw open the gates for this one - but I like your chances.

Here's to hoping.

Now that's an honor I could nail on the smoke house door!  And, in answer to Mr Bulba (condensing 2 posts to 1) Send. More. Ammo.

Isn't the proper directive to have him pick up a weapon, and stand at post?

(Rhetorical question - I know it is, because I'm a sucker for anything Aaron Sorkin writes, including the embarrasing display of working out his own personal issues that was Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip)
I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing AstroTurf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, torture of Bud Selig.

Not officially, but incredibly unlikely to come back - it was losing tons of money.
