That's one of the waivers issues guys gone.  And, Rangers need all the pitching they can get.

So, that's it for the Billy Wagner trade, right?  Duckworth released (right?), Buchholz 1/3rd of a trade for a year of Jason Jennings, and Zeke waived.

Bummer.

That's why he had to go through waivers.

Worse than bummer.  I would rather have Wagner back.

I'd say that Pettitte and Clemens were a product of that trade too, but I don't see them around either.

I think the trade worked out just fine for the Astros. What was the alternative? One more year of Wagner? Dotel and then Lidge picked up that slack with no problem.

Me either.

Not as the closer, but in the bullpen.

What's that old saying about hindsight?  The Astros had their best season in history after dropping Wags.  They followed it up with an even better season.  I can't say it was a bad move.

Yep, now take that perspective and apply it to the Jennings deal....looking better and better isn't it?

I was in the stands in the Ballpark in Arlington on a blast-furnace-hot Saturday afternoon in May, 2005, when the Rangers hit 9 HRs (a Texas club record) against the Astros.  Astacio started the game and gave up, I believe, at least 5 of those dingers.

Nothing against Zeke, but it makes you wonder why a team would make a waiver claim on a guy whom they abused in record proportions.

Wow, someone who shared my suffering. I dragged my wife, her sister, and her sister's whole family to that only have to sit and watch the Rangers put on a hitting demonstration of epic proportions. If I remember rightly Park started for the Rangers and went straight to the clubhouse for IV fluids after he was relieved. What is really sad is that I went back next day.

Word on the Rangers site is that they have lost Thomas Diamond as a potential starter for 2007

http://texas.rangers.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20070319&content_id=1850109&vkey=spt2007news&fext=.jsp&c_id=tex

and are looking for Astacio to bolster the pitching staff accordingly.

The Rangers wanted a guy who would pop up on the front steps before a game and scare the living shit out of children and old people hanging around near the dugout.  Zeke is that guy.

Park started the next day against Roy. Astros lose 2-0. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/boxscore?gid=250522113

Chris Young started the Saturday game. I remember now because that douche bag Josh Lewin couldn't stop talking about how tall he is.
4 homeruns in the 2nd, all with 2 outs.

I was at both games.  As Private Jerome said in Biloxi Blues, it was "Africa hot."

I'm sure I'll catch hell for this, but I'd take Lewin over Milo any day of the week.  In my opinion, Lewin is to Milo what Craig Way is to Dave South.  The former tell you what's actually happening in a game, while the latter prefer to tell the home team's fans what they want to hear.

Are you saying Milo keeps the fans updated about the action on the field?  Are you saying Craig Way doesn't?

Good point, loganck.  It looks as though I dicked up the old SAT analogy format, there.

Edited, accordingly.

Zeke gets an immediate.  Couple walks, a double and a run.  Which makes him look like an ace thanks to his new team mates:
Millwood  4.2 12 10 9 2 3 1 9.35
Puffer  0.1 1 0 0 1 1 0 0.00
Mahay  0.1 4 7 7 3 0 2 10.12
Ingram  0.2 0 0 0 0 0 0 13.50
Gagne  1.0 5 4 4 0 0 0 15.00
Littleton  1.0 2 2 2 2 0 1 15.00
Astacio, E  1.0 1 1 1 2 0 0 3.00

Josh Lewin bugs me to no end. I especially hate the way calls DQ the "Rocket Man" about a hundred times a game. Where does he come up with that shit!?!?!?

Eric Nadel, the Rangers radio guy is solid... much better than Milo.
