Let's even this bad boy up!
-
I have a request for the Astros’ offense: Let’s do some vaunting tonight!
-
Joy, a lead-off walk.
-
Not a good start...Verlander issues a 4-pitch walk to start the game.
-
Not particularly close either

2-run double...2-0, still nobody out
-
Who broke our pitchers??
-
Changeup did squat.
-
An 0-2 fucking count!
-
Verlander comes back and strikes out Soto.
-
Ponche, Soto.
-
Fucking brutal start by Verlander. Horrible location.
-
I must be like 3 or 4 minutes behind you guys
-
It's only 2 runs so far, but geez.
-
Relax. Papi picked Washington.
-
I'm depressed about this shit.
The difference between us and them is they're actually hot and we've been winning in spite of a general team-wide slump.

That sums it up nicely.

T1:
Turner...3-0...walks on four pitches
Eaton grounds to 3B...Bregman on the grass because of the shift...and it's past him...Turner to 2B
Rendon...0-2...doubles off the top of the LF wall, Turner scores, Eaton scores...hanging changeup on 0-2
Soto...0-2...1-2...strikes out swinging
Kendrick flies out F9
Cabrera...0-2...1-2...strikes out swinging
But the Nats jump all over...lead 2-0
-
They spotted us a two run lead last night. We didn't have to return the favor.
-
Last night they got three runs after walking the leadoff hitter and then a shiftfuck single on what should have been a double play. Tonight, it's two runs. So far. So far the shift killing the Astros.
-
Verlander just needs to set his alarm about 20 minutes earlier.
Let's get 'em back and then some!

it's what they do best.
-
Hanging changeups produce 2 runs for each team.
-
B1:
Springer...0-2...strikes out swinging
Altuve doubles to LF
Altuve caught stealing 2-5 on the first pitch...out pretty easily
Brantley singles to CF
Bregman homers to LF, Brantley scores
Gurriel grounds out 5-3
2-2 after one.
-
'bout f'n time! Bregman is back! Tie game!
His swing and miss on the 95 mph FB looked quick and aggressive. I was clinging to that thread when he blasted that changeup.
-
He was squeezed on ball 1.
-
Come on JV, you can't be hanging them like that.
-
Suzuki was hitting .043 in the postseason.
So of course we walk him last night and fall behind 2-0 tonight before he singles.
-
All time K leader in the post season.

I can't remember the last time the Astros had a clean inning after scoring.

T2:
Zimmerman...0-2...1-2 on a close pitch on the corner...2-2 on a close pitch on the corner...strikes out swinging
Suzuki...who's hitting .043...smacks a 2-0 fastball to LCF
Robles...0-2...strikes out swinging
Turner...0-2...1-2...flies out F9
2-2

Swing the bat, dude.
-
Correa's striking out 45% of the time in the post season.
-
Taking all the way on 3-2 seems to be Correa's vibe
-
B2:
Alvarez hits a rocket into RF, Cabrera with a diving catch in the deep shift
Correa...full count...strikes out looking...frozen on a breaking ball right down the pipe
Chirinos strikes out swinging
2-2
-
AJ may issue his first IBB before this series is over.
-
T3:
Eaton flies out F8
Rendon grounds out 4-3 in the shift
Soto doubles to RF...hanging curveball, lucky it stayed in the yard
Kendrick...0-2...1-2...flies out F9
2-2
-
Soto can prance around the bases all he wants as long as it isn't out of the park... And he's stranded there..
-
Verlander is hit or miss with his breaking stuff right now.
-
Gameplan for Soto:
Hanging changeup: check
Hanging slider: check
-
There's no need to pitch to Soto given the hitters behind him. Guy is locked in.
-

I'll say this for the Astros offense, they are inflating Strasburg's pitch count..

Rats... another at-em..
-
B3:
Reddick...quickly down 0-2...waves at a pitch in the dirt in the other box
Springer...2-0...swings out of his shoes at a hanging curve, misses it...3-1...pops up a meatball F4
Altuve...works it full...ground to SS...Turner bobbles it, but Altuve jogging...throw in the dirt, and Zimmerman can't pick it...TE6
Brantley singles to RF just over the shift, Altuve to 3B
Bregman grounds into FC on the first pitch, Brantley out 6-4
Astros strand a pair...2-2
-
Nice stolen base there, chamo.
-
Bregman just missed a very hittable pitch.
-
He calls the action just fine for me.
I respectfully disagree. He's call the game as well as I would. I would prefer the pbp guy know the game better.

It was a good pitch to hit, and he put a good swing on it. But it was right at a guy again.

You’re right. He hit it hard, just right at Turner.

He ain't perfect.

I don't know who the hell Paul Rudd is but whoever he is, fuck him.
-
How do you characterize Altuve's blunder - stupid, selfish? Given the game situation and the skewed risk-reward ratio, there is no justification for the steal attempt. It's not just that he forfeited the go ahead run for his team, but how many more stress pitches could the Astros have put on Strasburg? Hard to gauge how much damage he caused to his team's chance to win the game.
-
That was not pretty.

T4:
Cabrera strikes out swinging
Zimmerman dribbles one out towards the mound, Verlander fields it but falls down and throws the ball into his leg...infield single that traveled about 30 feet
Suzuki flies out F7 to medium LCF as Buck almost ejaculates
Robles pops out F4 on the first pitch
2-2

teams have been known to run on strasbooger. it didn't work, but it was worth the early shot (if it had been the 9th inning, then quite questionable). Suzuki doesn't seem like the best catcher either.

Because the 3,4,5 hitters have been mashing lately?

What if he makes it. Are you still asking the question? I'm sure in his mind it was worth the risk. Rarely does a game rest on one play and you can't assume that everything that happens following said play happens in the same sequence. That being said he still fucked up for being throw out.

They are today. I get he wanted to make something happen. Steal 3rd, score on a sac, wild pitch, whatever. We have been leaving tons of guys on base, so I feel they are due to break out soon. Hinch would probably not have sent him, he should’ve stayed put.

B4:

Alvarez singles to RF past the shift
Correa...hacking at slop...grounds out softly 5-3 right over the 3B bag, Alvarez to 2B
Chirinos...0-2...1-2...strikes out swinging
2-2

Six regular season games and 12 postseason games.

Are we going to see Rainey again tonight? Will Strasburg get one more?
Strasburg has to be done. He was looking pretty tired there. Rodney was up, I imagine that he'll get the 7th. And that's fine with me.
-
Kyle Tucker! You just bummed me the fuck out!
-
I just don't like tucker.

Fuck...

and again they can't score after the first inning.
-
Kurt Suzuki is killing the Astros.
-
Kurt Suzuki is killing the Astros.
the Astros are killing the Astros.
-
That was strike three again.
-
This guy really doesn't like the bottom of the zone.
-
Entered the game .043 in the postseason.
-
the Astros are killing the Astros.
Agreed. You aren’t going to win many games scoring two runs.
-
This team is fucking putrid right now.
The shitty at bat numbers are in double digits less than 2 games in to the series, and no signs of stopping soon.
Kurt Fucking Suzuki is hitting home runs while our studs foul off 80 mph breaking balls down the middle with 2 on.
It's fucking pathetic.
-
For me this on Hinch --- bat Reddick in 8 hole and hit Chirinos 9th (keep the battery together). Bad juju to break up RC/JV
-
JV struck out Robles on the 2-2 pitch, but the umpire didn’t notice.

Verlander is done.

That was strike 3. And now he walks.

verlander deserved better

FUCK!!!!
-
FUCK!!!!
Well said.

verlander deserved better
If only he knew how to not suck in the first inning.

Pressley in to limit the damage..

I don't think so.
-
Fuck! Toshiro Mifune is a stud.
Toshiro Mifuck that guy
-
Just to reiterate, Kurt Fucking Suzuki just ran in to one, while Correa and Tucker both fouled off meatballs and took strike 3.
This version of the Astros is unfuckingwatchable.

Nats are just a fucking buzzsaw right now. They have won 18 out of their last 21 games.

He usually does.

reddick is practically an automatic out right now
most of the fucking roster is an automatic out.

fudge. you have a chance and no one can do it.
they get a pitch and bye
Their pitcher guts out 6 innings throwing 114 pitches, they reward him with the lead. JV gets the usual.
-
That pitch hasn’t been called much all night.
Yeah, if anything, Strasburg got screwed on that pitch more than Verlander did.
-
This inning went to shit in a hurry
-
Pressly can't find the zone.
2 on no outs already down 1.
-
This is not unfolding according to the script.
-
reddick is practically an automatic out right now
I just don't put that homer on the guy behind the plate.
-
how many times in one game do they have to say Rendon is from here??? I don't give a shit.
-
reddick is practically an automatic out right now
Granted...
But I do think he would have battled differently - than either RC or KT (he has proven at times to be clutch when needed)
For me, though -- you need to keep Verlander comfortable out there - last inning and all. Just think subbing your catcher in the bottom of the 6th could come back to haunt us --- and Suzuki hit his pitch (who knows who called it or if RC would have)?
-
This is not unfolding according to the script.
I guess it depends on who's script it is.
-

I'm glad we're ignoring that Verlander was awful in the first and gave up a homer to a guy hitting a buck fifty in the playoffs with no homers.
This team is shitting itself on national TV.

Verlander called it. Then threw it.

2. We come back in the 9th in game two and win in 7

T7:
Maldonado in to catch
Suzuki crushes a homer over the tracks in LF...hanging fastball right down pipe
Robles...full up...walks
And that ends Verlander's night...Pressly in
Turner...3-0...3-1...3-2...walks, Robles to 2B
Eaton sacrifice bunt...out 1-3, Robles to 3B, Turner to 2B
Rendon flies out F8...runners hold
Soto intentionally walked
Kendrick grounds to 3B...Bregman boots it...Robles scores, Turner to 3B, and Soto to 2B on the E5
Cabrera...1-2...smacks a single to CF, Turner scores, Soto scores, Kendrick to 2B
Wild pitch, Kendrick to 3B, Cabrera to 2B
Zimmerman...3-2...dribbles one up the 3B line, Bregman fields it, throws it into RF...Kendrick scores, Cabrera scores, Zimmerman to 2B on the single and TE5
That's all for Pressly, James in
Suzuki grounds out 6-3
But the Astros shit all over themselves giving up five unearned runs...Nationals lead 8-2
-
Ball bounced away, runners moved up, both scored on Bregman’s throw to first.
It bounced away because Pressly fucking threw it in the dirt in front of the plate. How is that Maldonado's fault?

This is the problem with young men and confidence -- it creeps into overconfidence, bravado, and then when its time to show up - you see this kind shit (errors, expanding the zone, and playing lobster ball). Not talking about everyone --- but a few here are embarrassing.

Yup. Absolutely insane 2-out production. Unsustainable over a long stretch, but over two weeks? It can happen, and it's happening.
-
To be honest ---
1. Verlander and Cole have been less than (not poor though)
2. Our hitters have had a good approach with both MS/SS but have not come through in the clutch
3. The Nationals have the two biggest innings in the first two games
That's that/

Maybe the Astros strategy is for the Nationals to get all their runs in one game. then no more the rest of the series.
-
Our hitters have had a good approach with both MS/SS but have not come through in the clutch.
The Astro offensive philosophy is:
1. Wait for mistakes
2. Force mistakes
3. Crush mistakes
It's served them well for the last several years, but there's no Plan B when the opposition... stops making mistakes. I suspect, relative to other teams, they may not be quite as good against truly elite pitching or just pitchers who are able to execute well in a given moment. There was an article published right before the postseason that rated the playoff teams on their performance against 'playoff caliber' pitching (I think they mainly used fastball velocity as an indicator of that). The author had the Astros near the bottom. I forget who published it, off the top of my head... will have to Google later.

Its in our DNA; If we do win this thing, it will be in the most unbelievable way possible.
Fuck off with this shit.

See y'all Friday.
You betcha!

I'm not in pain. I'm not a fucking loser. Bringing your weak "woe is me" shit on a tough night like tonight is just fucking insulting. Go sulk somewhere else.
Well, if you are picking a fight, calling people you do not know names on an internet board where we are all supposed to be friendly or at least polite ---- then you'll have to square the circle with who is the loser here.
In my estimation, we are all losing --- -and sulking is a part of it. You can sanitize everything here HH, even though we are grateful for your humor and play by play
Good night.
-
I hope Bregman finds a zoftig, loving woman in the next 36 hrs to help get him right.

Already got that one pegged.

Again, fuck off with your bullshit. You may feel like losing is in your DNA, but I'm proud to be an Astros fan, and support them through thick and thin. Go root for the Cubs if you feel that way.
Good night.
Nothing good about it. But unlike you, I don't feel like I have some perpetual black cloud hovering over my life.
-
Well, that sucked. Those fucking Expos-stealing-Jeffrey Loria cockswilling-Bud Selig's micro-penis in their butt bastards. Fuck them. Fuck them. Fuck them.
-
To add a little levity, the best moment from the broadcast team tonight just occurred. The camera panned over drunken Astros revelers who are apparently too cocked to realize the outcome and happened to scan by exactly the type of woman I hope AB encounters over the next 36 hours... picture April Bigcannons from East Bound and Down. She gives a little shimmy for the camera and a hot mic pics up a “woah” from Smoltz (I think, not positive). I rewound and confirmed the “woah” though. Anyways, back to our present situation.

You have work in the morning. You should just let it go tonight man ---- you are projecting here.
You need some affection --- not an argument. You need help.

He doesn't need help. I think he believes you said some dumb shit and called you on it. I remember thinking there was something dumb said at the time I read it but I forget what it was. I suggest you forget to.

The Astros better use the plane ride to D.C. to pull their heads out of their ass. If they are firing on all cylinders, they are capable of winning four out of five against any team, even one playing as well as the Nationals right now. The offense especially needs to sack up and figure out what ails it. You can’t ask your pitching staff to be perfect every night in the playoffs to have a chance to win.

I'm not arguing. I'm telling you what whiny little fuck you are.

Gerrit Cole and Justin Verlander are the first teammates to each win 20 games during the regular season but lose Games 1 and 2 of a World Series since Don Drysdale and Sandy Koufax of the Dodgers in 1965 against the Twins.
The Dodgers would recover to win that series in 7 games.

Here's hoping for 2 out of 3 in D.C.

Him being an NFL writer makes it that much better.

Call me an unenlightened westerner, but how about doing the right thing because it's the right thing to do, and not because you're looking for a reward?.

AJ may issue his first IBB before this series is over.

Alex Bregman failed to field an inning ending ground ball.
*That* was the flamethrower that lit the fuel depot.

The Astros lost, we just watch. Yeah it sucks but this is the time to nut up not get depressed and dwell on things that have happened in our past. That's for Cubs fans, and fuck the Cubs.

8 - 63 (.113) w/ RISP since ALCS Game 1.

And I think two of those hits were infield singles which didn't plate a run. So it's more the equivalent of 6 for 63 (.095)

Does that mean “FO = Hello (+ or -)”

We were talking about this as a problem all year. They were perfectly mediocre with RISP and 2 outs. To have further regressed against postseason caliber pitching should not be too much of a surprise.

The current edition of the Astros won the World Series in 2017, made the ALCS last season, and are back in the World Series this season. What happened decades ago isn’t relevant now. What is relevant is the team needs to wake up in all phases of the game in D.C., or they will watch the Nationals celebrate a World Championship.

And they'll get reminded of it daily at their spring training facility.

Has anybody seen Chris Correa lately?

I was pissed off that I had to head out on the road and couldn't watch the game... not so much now though.
