Oh, yeah. NL park. No DH. Greinke hits tomorrow!

Greinke can be an additional pinch hitter.

Broadcast showed him taking BP yesterday.

NY/Tex rain delay has Astros bumped from ESPN to ESPN3 (apparently that's their phone/tablet app).

Just saw that. Thanks.

Now the question is when will the Worrell button be employed?

Now the question is when will the Worrell button be employed?
It's on ATTSW too
-
Love that swing from Bregman
-
Alvarez swing looked slow (not just late) on that high FB.
-
Grandal homers to left.
1-0.
-
K, HR, 4-3, K.
1-0 Mil after 1.
-
Alvarez swing looked slow (not just late) on that high FB.
Seems like a long time since he did anything. He has runner on almost every AB.
-
Astros strand Toro at 2nd.
Grienke needs to work with Cole in BP.
-
National League inning there. Infield hit, stolen base, but the pitcher up with two outs. Maldonado had a chance and swatted one pretty good but right on a line to 3B.
-
Seems like a long time since he did anything. He has runner on almost every AB.
4RBI and 2HR last Tuesday. 3 for 17 with 8K and 5BB since.
-
Cole strikes out the side.
-
I usually don't like in-game interviews, but the Verlander interview on ESPN was good.
They clearly leaned on the Verducci article.
Jv on the essence of pitching:
"Make things that aren't fastballs look like fastballs."
-
4RBI and 2HR last Tuesday. 3 for 17 with 8K and 5BB since.
What was the score? Long time (to me) since he did anything in a tight game. Maybe I am forgetting.
Second HR was off position player.
-
Nice drop shot by Altuve.
1st/2nd no out.
-
What was the score? Long time (to me) since he did anything in a tight game. Maybe I am forgetting.
First one made it 9-0; second made it 15-1.
-
Bregman delivers again.
Line drive single to center plates Springer.
Game tied.
-
Alvarez is lost.
-
Again K
Chased two changeups in the dirt. Fouled off a FB down the middle.
Brantley is in a 2-20 lull too.
-
Right now Yordan is a dead man walking with 2 strikes.
-
Man they had some pitches to crush that inning.
-
Astros settle for 1 run. 2 LOB.
Tied at 1 headed to bottom of the 3rd.
-
Alvarez is lost.
He need to sit for a game or so and talk to coaches.
-
In contrast to the JV interview, the split screen pre recorded piece with a disinterested Christian Yelich added nothing.
-
Flyball and 2 strikeouts in the bottom of the frame.
ESPN felt obligated to show Yelich's bare ass from their The Body issue of their stupid magazine. I thought it went under?
Tied at 1, end 3.
-
Right now Yordan is a dead man walking with 2 strikes.
Yep. When he fouls off the 1-strike pitch, the at bat is over. You've got him. He's getting 1/3rd the chance as anyone else. That's an area he drastically needs to improve.
-
Braun misjudges Toro's flyball to left but makes a half jumping catch to the delight of the crowd.
-
Cole's home to first time on that grounder: 2.5 hours.
Protect that hammy.
-
Braun misjudges Toro's flyball to left but makes a half jumping catch to the delight of the crowd.
Didn't see the misjudge, but thought to myself "he just Jim Edmonds'd the hell out of that"
-
4 pitch walk to Grandal. In front of Yelich.
-
WP advances the runner.
Yelich Ks on 100 mph heat.
-
Duty calls.
Get some runs for the Astros.
-
Balk?
-
Nice bunt, balk, and a swinging bunt put runners on the corners with 1 out.
Strom to the mound. Bear down, Cole.
Cole fights back from 2-0 and carves up Gamel for the K.
-
Two balls hit a combined 60 feet put Brewers on 1B and 3B, one out...
-
Big K on Gamel. 2 out
-
Walk loads bases for Grandal, but Cole gets the K.
-
Nice job working through the traffic. Struck out the side and has 12 through 5.
-
Yordan!!!!
-
Alvarez # 22 puts Astros in front 2-1
-
HOORAY!
ETA: Blum said he is dragging his bat through the zone and getting under pitches. Makes sense to me.
-
HOORAY!
He hit that with two strikes too. Maybe he's reading the GZ between innings.
-
He hit that with two strikes too. Maybe he's reading the GZ between innings.
or listening to Blum
-
Need a zero, Cole.
-
He hit that with two strikes too.
Happy to see that. He finally got the barrel solidly on that outside pitch.
-
Got a call there. Strike 3 on Yelich was up.
-
Yelich may just gotten screwed, but I'll take it.
-
or listening to Blum
Blum has a good description in the promo for the ATT telecast. "Lag" is keeping the hands back, staying behind the ball, "drag" is dropping the head and sort of slinging the bat through the zone. Blummer ought to know.
-
Yelich may just gotten screwed, but I'll take it.
The ATT Strike Zone Sponsored by Methodist, never lies.
-
Yelich may just gotten screwed, but I'll take it.
Looked like a strike to me.
Nine outs is a lot to get for our MASH unit pen.
-
100 up in the zone followed by 89 mph slider up in the same spot.
JV on the essence of pitching:
"Make things that aren't fastballs look like fastballs."
-
Tucker getting his first AB of the season...
-
Machete with a leadoff double.
Tucker hitting for Cole
-
Tucker flies out, but moves Machete to 3B with one out...
-
Productive AB
Top of the order needs to bring Machete home.
-
Am I the only one that doesn't like the song Sweet Caroline?
-
And Springer chases with a runner on 3B...need a 2-out hit from Altuve...
-
Am I the only one that doesn't like the song Sweet Caroline?
I hate that fucking song.
-
Am I the only one that doesn't like the song Sweet Caroline?
I've learned to hate it.
Hated that AB from Springer too.
-
Altuve makes me want to put a fist through the fucking wall.
If you're going to bunt for a hit, maybe at least TRY and avoid the tag? You know, like slide?
Fucking idiotic.
-
Shit.
-
White knuckle time now.
-
Altuve tries to bunt his way on, but it's a 3U on a close play.
leadoff double wasted.
-
Altuve makes me want to put a fist through the fucking wall.

That looked like one of the few times diving into first would be a reasonable play.
-
That looked like one of the few times diving into first would be a reasonable play.
Avoiding a tag is the only time you should slide at 1B, but the last thing I need is Altuve mangling his knee trying to slide at the last second.
-
It's Rondon Time!!
-
Thames helped
-
Am I the only one that doesn't like the song Sweet Caroline?
Far, far from it.
-
Clean inning for Rondon...let's punch a couple insurance runs across!
-
Rondon could help so much.

Oh, Yordan...

Suter pitching 2nd inning of relief; had TJ surgery during July 2018.
Third
Hold your breath, folks.
-
Yordan watched a first pitch hittable fastball and and the rest is history.
Brantley sure could get hot again any time, 6 for his last 33.
-
Nice job by Harris not to get rushed with that come-backer. On to the 9th. Another run or two would be nice.
-

3 Ks and a homer. What a day.

Sweet DP started by Harris. Maybe Yuli should have spiked the baseball before heading to the dugout.

Not sure what Grandal was grousing about. Runner not breaking up the double play?
-
Why not double switch and put Jake in the 9-hole?
nvm: forgot about Reddick on the bench
-

Should have been pissed at himself for not running hard to first. I know he’s a catcher but he sure seemed to be lollygagging.

Probably rather have Reddick than Marisnick in the 9th?

Osuna to face Yelich, Moustakas, Braun.
-
Osuna to face Yelich, Moustakas, Braun.
Good practice for the postseason.
-
Or not.
-
edit: caught too much of the plate with those last 2 fastballs
-
Fuck, Osuna.
-
Fuck. 0-2 pitch and we are tied.
-
Tied.
-
Wow.
0-2. Fucking awful.
WHY did that get so much of the zone?!
Fucking garbage from Osuna.
-
Damn.
-
Toro, stay in your lane. Wtf were you doing that far?
-
Portugal had 12 straight wins?
-
Fuck you, Osuna.
-
Ok, Osuna needs to get his ass kicked for that.
-
That was shitty, Osuna. Fuck you.
-
Fuck Osuna. Could you give less of a fuck about this game?
-
Stupid ass wife beating dickhead.
-
Fuck Osuna. Could you give less of a fuck about this game?
Didn't even react after the throw/play.
-
Pathetic by osuna.
-
Hinch should’ve gone out and taken the ball from Osuna after that nonchalant throw to first. Inexcusable.
-
If only yesterday’s near miss could have ignited our offense. They’ve left more than enough runs in scoring position. And Osuna is a gutless turd.
-
Springer!

Springer Dinger!!
-
Sweet George!
-
Now we get to worry about who pitches the bottom.

Springer wants to win this game!

Springer wants to win this game!
Can he pitch?

Kalas said Josh James is up.
-
Where has Hader been during all of this? Were they saving him for a lead?
-
Where has Hader been during all of this? Were they saving him for a lead?
He pitched 2.2 innings (25 pitches total) the last two days against the Cubs.
-
Kalas said Josh James is up.
Welcome back to the bigs, kid.
-
If he walks this guy I wouldn't even let him see another hitter.
-
4-pitch walk to lead of the B10. No e of them within 3 ft of the plate
-
Not close on any pitch.
-
I hope joe smith is warming
-
I hope joe smith is warming
He is.

2B is there for the taking against James. Not sure why the Brewers don't.

Shows what I know.

Maybe bc pinch runner is a pitcher?
Surprised he isn't already on 2nd.
-
Maybe bc pinch runner is a pitcher?
Surprised he isn't already on 2nd.
He is now. Another walk.
-
Tough AB by Grandal.
-
Shit.
Grandal fouled off a couple of tough pitches then James couldn't find the zone.
-
An error in the 9th and 2 walks in the 10th allows Yelich to come up with a chance to win the game.
-
Whew.
-
Thank you, blue.
That was atrocious.
-
Wow, high strike. I'll take it!
-
Wow. Got a break on Yelich.
-
Yelich definitely got screwed on that one. But once again, I'll take it.
-
Holy crap.
Horrendous call again on Yelich.
-
Yelich got fucked twice.
-
Wow. Another call goes our way against Yelich.
-
Win!
-
Astros win!
-
PONCHE!
Nicely done, Josh James!
-
Way to hang in there JJ.
-
BOOM!!
-
Way to battle Josh James! Astros win!
-
Welcome back to the bigs, kid.
Yes!!!
-
Way to hang in there JJ.
Yes.
Glad to see that velo up.
Couldn't believe it when Kalas said he led AL relievers in Ks at the time of his injury.
-
That should be a big confidence booster.
-
That should be a big confidence booster.
Hope so. It would be nice if James could step up down the stretch.
-
Osuna with the win.
Fucked. Up.
-
Some shitty comments on here. One inexcusable one.
Good win.
-
That should be a big confidence booster.
Julia mentioned a few mechanical adjustments they worked on during his rehab.
Above my pay grade to know what those particular adjustments do but they weren't close to hitting anything he threw hard. He just wasn't close to the plate with several pitches.
-
Osuna gets the win, right?
-
Osuna with the win.
Fucked. Up.
Ah, could the OS award that win to James? Just asking...
-
Osuna with the win.
Fucked. Up.
It should be donated to charity or something.

His rehab outings would not have given you confidence he had gotten his velocity back.

Exhale

Osuna gets the win, right?
Yes
-
Ah, could the OS award that win to James? Just asking...
No. James gets a save.
-
Osuna gets a blown save and a win.
He knows and everyone else knows that getting that W ain't a feather in his cap.

His feather will be a little lower....
-
Was pulling for a mirror to last nights script: rookie HR brings win to star pitcher (again), but thankful for the Springer edit.
-
Can someone briefly explain what Osuna did? I was in an airport following on my phone. Thanks!
-

Blew the save giving up a game tying HR on an 0-2 pitch then with two out, fielded a comebacker and nonchalantly lobbed the ball to 1B and made a bad throw for an E1.
-
His lack of focus almost beat the Astros.
Did we throw a runner out at the plate? He struck out Shaw and stranded the runners. Nothing “almost beat the Astros.” Egregious error for sure. He came back and ended the inning.
-
He had to face - and strike out - another hitter in the inning w/ 2 on base.
Granted, it was a .163 hitter, but it is very tense....
The lack of emotion on his error, and the added runner, popped a few corks on the thread....
Egregious error. What should he have done? Throw his glove? Stomp his foot? Cry? Scream?
No emotion is a sin. You must hate Brantley. How much emotion does Alvarez show? This is not fucking Little League where tantrums are the norm. Osuna struck the next guy out on three pitches to strand the runners.
I liked that. Here he got cursed.
-
With the season winding down, Osuna has not preformed as well as I had hoped he would but he is still one of the better closers in the league. A homer on a 0-2 pitch is always a shitty thing but it happens all the time. Verlander gave up one in his penultimate start.

After a great first half, he's been very average since. Needs to get his mojo back, because we sure as hell need him.
-
We had a closer that showed a lot of emotion.
Even punched himself in the face and told the manager "fuck you".
I'll stay on the current end of the spectrum.

It’s not the lack of motion that warranted the swear words from me, it was lack of effort.

At least GIles only punches himself. Fuck Osuna.

Was there the same reaction to Altuve’s lack of effort in Greinke’s game? I don’t remember any “fuck Altuve.” Fuck the lack of effort certainly, but fuck the player? No. Not me, and if this is what the GZ will be, you do not need me here.

Not sure what Grandal was grousing about. Runner not breaking up the double play?
I was wondering about that. Wasn't Altuve right in the baseline? Couldn't the runner have legally taken him out with a slide?
-
Holy smokes:
According to Elias, the Astros are the first team to have pitchers with at least 14 strikeouts in consecutive games since the mound was moved to 60 feet, 6 inches in 1893.

You cannot legally take out the fielder at 2B. You can slide directly into the bag.
-
I understand the disappointment with Osuna's performance but the tone of the criticism was far too harsh to my taste. I don't consider his demeanor lack of emotion; I consider it maintaining his composure. Blowing his top on t,he field wasn't going to help him retire the next batter; controlling his emotions and keeping his focus did. I don't think that the throw to first was lack of effort; he thought that a soft toss was the best way to get the runner out and he didn't execute.
Still and all, Osuna will be the source of much apprehension for as long as the season lasts.
-

If the runner slides directly into the bag and the fielder is between the runner and the bag, can the runner make contact with the fielder? Or is contact taboo?
-

The runner has to slide into the bag in a legitimate effort to reach the base, not with the intent of taking out the fielder. If that results in incidental contact, it is not a violation, but just because Bregman (not Altuve) was coming across the bag does not mean he was fair game. It was a sharp comebacker. Grisham was not in position to slide into the bag so he peeled off. That’s the game today, for better or worse. It seemed like that’s what Grandal was on about, but I don’t know for sure.

I could not figure out his reaction either. The play looked routine and clean.

I had a coach once that said he never had a problem with physical errors, but mental errors were never ok (or something along those lines).
Maybe just a tap of the glove to the chest and a "My bad" or "Lo Siento" toward the dugout would've been nice instead of looking like he just realized that 60 Minutes was going to be late since Sunday Night Football was running late AGAIN.
-

and the coach to whom you may be referring at least once each year had a player lob a ball to first instead of “step and throw.” I do not know if a high lob is a physical or a mental error. If his sin was not showing that he cares enough, ok. Perhaps he should have done as you suggested. He was stoic. He came back to get the next hitter on three pitches, and I imagine Hinch will take care of any perceived lack of competitiveness. I also do not know what he said to Hinch or to his teammates in the dugout or in the clubhouse. Maybe he said “my bad” to them.
Not you necessarily because I always thing the best of you, but much of the profane venom on here, in my opinion, is directed at his past, not his performance. No one on this team loses composure because of a mistake, not even a big home run or a crucial high lob from SS, and that is good. That coach you had also did not tolerate negative shows of emotion or fits of pique.

Lollygagging a routine out on a speedy runner because you elected to not hustle is a mental error pure and simple.
If he fields, turns , and throws a strike to first, ballgame over and he doesn't have to strike out the next guy with 2 on.
100 percent mental to me.
And who gives a shit what other people's motivations are for being pissed. Osunu fucked up, stupidly. Giving a team 4 outs is never a good thing.
Happy ending is he came back and got the next guy, but that doesn't make a really terrible mental error any better.
-

My anger related to his stoic response to his error was wrong.
I can never "unsee" Giles beating himself publicly for his mistake. It was/is painful to watch.
Thankful Osuna is on the team and has taken full advantage of his 2nd chance (http://www.orangewhoopass.com/forums/index.php?topic=120308.msg624065#msg624065). Tho a gifted athlete, it is all to easy to forget that he is human, just like me.

I wasn't wanting him to punch himself in the face or punt his glove in to the stands. But a simple acknowledgement that you fucked up is a good thing for everyone involved. A chest pat "my bad".

I agree with everything you say here except “who gives a shit about motivation for posts.” I do.
My instruction to a pitcher who made that egregious mistake would be: “Forget it. Focus on the hitter and get him.” I think that is what Osuna did.
ETA: I never questioned your or any of my players’ desire or competitiveness. I had total confidence in their wanting to win and to do their best. If I doubted that, they would not play.
-

Agree, but we spectators have the advantage of being detached from the action and reactionary in the stands or in front of a screen.
I wonder if behind his blank look he might have been thinking, "What did I just DO!", not believing the answer.
Can't get into his head and it's easy to 2nd guess.
Three FASTBALLS "quickly" got the last out of the inning - that was effective use and aim of his anger.
