McHugh looked pretty sharp and struck out the side, but he still took 25 pitches to get out of the 1st. Wasn't helped by Lindor's AB, in which he fouled off a lot of pitches in a 10-pitch AB. And he "hit" Ramirez with one of his patented back-foot sliders.
-
Astros with a couple of 2-out hits in the first, but leave two in scoring position.
-
McHugh with two more strikeouts and a fly to center.
Middle 2, 0-0.
-
Reddick with a lead-off double into the RF corner. If he's going to hit from corner to corner, he's going to be hard to defend.
-
Reddick with a leadoff double...bring my people home!
-
Yuli singles to RF, but there was enough uncertainty that Reddick can only advance to 3rd. 1st and 3rd, no outs.
-
Yuli follows with a knock. 1st and 3rd, nobody out...
-
White needs to drive this run in. I’ll feel better.
-
White needs to drive this run in. I’ll feel better.
Oops.
-
Fuck Tyler.
-
Chirinos with the bunt up the 1st base side, throw is wide of the plate, Reddick scores, Yuli goes to 3rd, Chirinos safe at 1st.
-
Man, George was carved up
-
Fuck, now Springer strikes out on the same outside pitch that White struck out on. It'll take a hit from Altuve to get any more runs here.
-
Roof is open. I'll bet it's a glorious night to be at the ballpark.
-
Altuve walks, loading the bases for Bregman.
-
Bregman walks, driving in the run. It didn't look like Kluber wanted anything to do with the strike zone with Bregman.
-
Brantley grounds out to 1st to end the inning. Too bad, because Kluber was laboring.
End 2, Astros lead 2-0.
-

End 2, Astros lead 2-0.
Yeah, a crooked number against Kluber is a good inning, but I still feel a little disappointed. I’m looking at you Tyler White.
-
Need to go upstairs on Lindor
-
And just like that it's 2-1. Lindor clobbers a ball into the RF upper deck. It wasn't even a bad pitch.
-
Well fuck.
-
Need to go upstairs on Lindor
Yup, low is apparently death.
-
From 1 knee to the upper deck.
-
Yup, low is apparently death.
Kept throwing the same pitch over and over and Lindor kept just missing it. Needed to change eye level.
-
Ground out to Yuli (I think, I wasn't really paying attention) to end the inning.
Middle 3, Astros lead 2-1.
-
Ground out to Yuli (I think, I wasn't really paying attention) to end the inning.
Middle 3, Astros lead 2-1.
Line drive missile.
-
All of a sudden Kluber is all healthy again and gets a quick 1-2-3 inning.
End 3, Astros lead 2-1.
-
Fuck
-
Indians have had three base runners, and were tied.
-
Well, fuck, now we're tied: Gonzalez with his first homer of the year into the Astros' bullpen. Unlike with Lindor, that was *not* a good pitch.
-
Too bad we didn't do more damage when Kluber was ripe.
-
Then McHugh has Bauers down 0-2 and hangs a slider that gets ripped into right for a single.
-
Fly ball to the track in the RF corner for the final out, but the damage is done.
Middle 4, all tied up 2-2.
-
White finally squares one up, but right at em.
-
That's better, George!
-
Chirinos singles up the middle, then Springer drives a ball into the gap in RCF. Kipnis's relay is horrible, and Chirinos scores.
-
In fact, the relay was over the head of the catcher and Springer went all the way to 3rd.
-
Outstanding throw by Kipnis. Almost got him.
-
Altuve walks on four pitches, bringing up Bregman with runners on 1st and 3rd with one out.
-
In fact, the relay was over the head of the catcher and Springer went all the way to 3rd.
Chirinos needs to unhook that bass boat he’s dragging around, but he read that ball really well. Good base running.
-
Outstanding throw by Kipnis. Almost got him.
Hit the mascot.
-
Bregman had a pitch to hit on that 1-1 pitch, but he just missed it, and then struck out on the 1-2 pitch.
-
Brantley flies out to shallow right to end the inning, bailing Kluber out yet again.
End 4, Astros lead 3-2.
-
He's got 86 pitches thru 4. But the top of the lineup let Kluber off the hook twice.
-
Bregman had a pitch to hit on that 1-1 pitch, but he just missed it, and then struck out on the 1-2 pitch.
After that strikeout, Bregman is only hitting .250 with runners in scoring position so far. Of course it's still early, and he's a slow starter.
-
In case anyone was wondering, coming into the game White is hitting .091 with RISP. 7k's in 11 AB's. I guess that's 8 in 12 including tonight.
-
Dammit, Collin!
-
Fuck
-
Good grief.
-
On his next podcast, he interviews himself about how shitty he's been pitching.
-
McHugh cannot stand having a lead.
-
God damn it, McHugh gives up another solo homer to tie the game.
Middle 5, all tied up 3-3.
-
Don't want to expose White because someone else will snap him right up.
-
All Cleveland runs in the series so far have come on solo home runs. I suppose that's not the absolute worst news in the world, but it's annoying nonetheless.
-
Don't want to expose White because someone else will snap him right up.
I think this decision about what to do when it's necessary to call up Alvarez is getting easier.
Meanwhile, Correa flies out to the right fielder with his back to the fence.

The Indians do not have a hit w RISP this series.

I don't think there's any way either of those guys gets DFA'd.

He's an inning eater.

Or Kemp, since Alvarez is LH and will be playing DH/LF.

It would be sad if that were to happen right before the hugs for homers bobblehead.

Kemp is much more versatile. White and Alvarez offer the same thing on defense: nothing. And, in my opinion, Kemp has a much better history of bringing quality ABs. From where I sit, Kemp vs. White is an easy decision. But I don't sit in the front office.

It boggles my mind that there is any consternation over losing Tyler White. It simply defies logic.

What else do we have to give them to get Tony Watson?

Where is anyone here consternating?
-
Or Kemp, since Alvarez is LH and will be playing DH/LF.
Of the 2, White has hit for power at times (remember? gets harder every day) which is more marketable than Kemp's skill set.
But I suspect it would be prospects for either.
-
Where is anyone here consternating?
l'm just dumb-founded that anybody is wondering whether it should be Kemp or White that goes.
-
Meanwhile, Harris relieves McHugh to get the 3rd out of the inning.
Middle 6, tied at 3-3.
-
l'm just dumb-founded that anybody is wondering whether it should be Kemp or White that goes.
Of course, what really matters is what others are willing to offer for either of the two. And if they'll only offer an autographed photo of Pete Incaviglia in exchange for White, you may have to dangle Kemp.
-

Not here, the reports that the Astros front office is.
-

I mentioned Kemp because Luhnow has mentioned them both wrt Alvarez. Ask him.

If they’re offering Inky’s John Hancock for White, you jump on it.
-

I'm guessing they just don't want to sell when his value is at a12 month low.
Or they have a huge shark bobblehead giveaway planned.

Fuckity fuck!

I feel sick.
With good reason. It'll be a miracle if we're only down one when we come up to bat.
-
The Astros do not have a 7th inning reliever. It's been a huge hole in the pen all year.

In completely unrelated news, I've never understood why anybody thinks that Josh Rosen is the answer to anybody's QB problems. I don't know what the Dolphins gave up for him, but if it was anything more than an autographed photo of Pete Incaviglia, they overpaid.
-
Christmas in April.
Just a 1 run deficit.
-
Rodon limits the damage to one run.
Middle 7. Indians lead 4-3.

The Cardinals spent a first on him and paid him $11MM for one year. The Fins spent a third basically and will pay him $6MM over three years. Unless they cut him, I guess, which is always a possibility.
When you let a talent like Tannyhill slip away, you gotta do something.
-
Kemp has value as a pinch runner, a guy who has proven to give professional ABs, also has defensive flexibility by playing LF, CF and 2B competently.
White only gives you hitting, in theory. Evan Gattis but less good.
Kemp is much more valuable, to me anyway

Sure, if you're just trying to field a team and minimize salary, I guess that's ok. But if you're actually trying to win, it's still a whiff. Doesn't matter how bad Arizona's judgement was.

Ok, runners on 1st and 3rd for Reddick. Two outs, he has to make this AB count.

Nice job by Correa staying down on that.
They weren't going to come in to him.

Crap.
Josh was a little amped up chasing those high heaters.

Good news is that we'll have the top of the order up in the 9th.
-
Carlos continues to impress in the field.

The Dolphins haven't tried to win since 1990 or so.
-
Yuli almost matched him.
-
Chirinos needs to unhook that bass boat he’s dragging around, but he read that ball really well. Good base running.
Unlike Bregman, who with two outs in the first jogged from first to second watching Brantley’s ball toward the left field wall. He didn’t put it in gear until he was rounding second. With two outs, he should have been busting it from the crack of the bat and he probably scores. Hopefully that potential run won’t hurt us.

Just posted about this in the Alvarez thread. Much talk on radio today about how Giants are really working the phones for an outfielder. Made me wonder if the had call Luhnow. I love Kemp but he probably has the most trade value. And for all the talk about Alvarez, I think Straw is ready too.

But no GIDP so I'm going to call that a win.

George's last two at bats have been brutal.
-
Springer was not expecting that 93 mph strike 2 meatball.
That was the one.
-
Springer Ensberg's the 1-1 and 1-2 pitches to end the inning with a runner on 1st.
End 8, Indians lead 4-3.
-
Fuck, Springer...do you need an explanation of what the bat is for?
-
Anyway, the good news is the Texans snagged Kahale Warring and they didn't even have to trade up to get him.
-
Springer was not expecting that 93 mph strike 2 meatball.

Or apparently the same pitch again.
-
It's go time now, boys. Shut 'em down here and then get busy in the bottom of the inning.

motherfucker

When I said it was go time, I didn't mean it was time to shit on everything. I'm talking to you, Josh James.
-
Sigh

James 9th:
Fall behind, give up a single.
Fall behind . . . Crawford box dinger.
Shit.

Didn't we're already cover the idea of pitching low to Lindor?

Hey, an out.

Outside of Osuna and Pressly and kind of(dare I say it) Harris, this bullpen is pretty suspect

James has been terrible.
Crawford shots are one thing.
Multiple walks are an entirely unacceptable habit.

I think it's time James to make the trip to Round Rock. Maybe stretch him back out forbstarting insurance?

That is a pretty good evaluation to this point.
Coming into tonight, opponents were only hitting .217 against James but he has walked 8 and now given up 4 dingers. His ERA is over 8. Not a good look.

His control has been so much worse than last year. I wonder if being a bullpen guy this year has something to do with it.
Not that I'm anywhere near that level. My whole life I have been terrible when I'm not starting the game, my control goes AWOL and I was always a low velo control guy. James might have the same issue. Just complete speculation

Bregman: Over. Matched.

Pretty hard to win to leave 37,000 runners on base and give up 4 homers or was it 5?
Oh btw, the Indians only had 19 this year before the game.
