So, no Lowrie, Gomez or Gonzalez. Here's to Karter starting the 2nd half power party.
-
At least Gattis, Carter, and Conger aren't sequential in the order.
-
Here's to Karter starting the 2nd half power party.
Indeed!
After all, Ashby pronounces that, as a statistical matter, we should see some home runs tonight!
-
T1:
Springer lines the first pitch off the glove of the SS, single
Altuve grounds into 3U-6-3 double play...Moreland steps on the bag and Springer is in a rundown
Correa doubles to RCF...too bad about the double play, otherwise Springer scores
Gattis grounds out 6-3 on the first pitch
0 for 1 w/RISP
No score
-
Holland has the Rick Vaughan "vegomatic" haircut
-
I didn't see the pitch to Gattis. Was it chin-high?
-
Conger throws toward second base, in a general sense. Somehow, DeShields doesn't take 3rd in the aftermath.
-
I didn't see the pitch to Gattis. Was it chin-high?
Not sure, but I think it was normal height, maybe in a bit.
Conger throws toward second base, in a general sense. Somehow, DeShields doesn't take 3rd in the aftermath.
That was so terrible, I thought surely his hand hit Choo's helmet during the throw, but no such luck.
-
I didn't see the pitch to Gattis. Was it chin-high?
No, it wasn't a bad pitch, belt high on the corner...he rolled over on it a bit.
-
What the fuck got into Rasmus there? He had no shot at DeShields in the first place.
-
Rangers has plated two runs, runners at the corner, still nobody out
-
What the fuck got into Rasmus there? He had no shot at DeShields in the first place.
I hate to say it, but this team looks like they are in sheer panic mode right now.
-
God damn it, three bleeders, a walk, two errors, and no outs.
-
What the fuck, man?
This is ugly already.
-
And now a HBP. What other options are still available? A balk, I suppose?
-
I think Hinch needs to throw some bats on the shower floor and call them a bunch of lollygaggers.
-
God damn it, three bleeders, a walk, two errors, and no outs.
Only 1 error, no? Conger's just seemed like an error. No advance.
-
Only 1 error, no? Conger's just seemed like an error. No advance.
Good point. Let's call it an error against aesthetics.
-
Now 4-0, runners on the corner and one out
-
Now 4-0, runners on the corner and one out
Can this get any worse?
Wait, don't answer that.
-
How I hate that little cocky piece of shit, Odor.
Jeezus, this is awful.
-
they are applauding the fact that conger didn't one-hop the throw to 2nd, essentially. Ouch.
-
I was hoping I wouldn't have to play this card, but I'm going to go watch a movie. It's the only chance they have.
-
B1:
Deshields lines the first pitch into LF
Deshields takes 2B as Conger's throw sails 40 feet over Altuve's head
Choo...full count...fouls one off his nuts...walks
Fielder grounds one to where the SS should be, but you know the shift and all...Deshields scores as Rasmus throws one 47 feet high into the screen. Choo to 3B and Fielder to 2B on the TE7
Beltre pops one just over Altuve's head, Choo scores, Fielder to 3B
Moreland hit by pitch, bases loaded
Odor, otherwise known as "chin pubes", grounds into FC, Moreland out 6U, Fielder scores, Beltre to 3B
Andrus with a bloop single to RF, Beltre scores, Odor to 3B
Andrus steals 2B
Gallo...infield in...full count...strikes out swinging
Gimenez lines out to SS
Rangers get four runs without hitting one hard, lead 4-0 after one
-
Oh yeah, just for fun I went back and watched a little of the game on the 29th of July against the Angels. If you have MLB.tv, check it out and go to about the 9:45 - 9:50 mark. Ashby said something along the lines of the fact the Rangers were out of it, and it was just a two team race with the Angels. Thanks Ashby!! The BBGs were listening, you prick!
-
Carter with an RBI double...very nice swing
-
Attaboy, Carter! RBI double.
-
Carter with an RBI double...very nice swing
Maybe BudGirl is correct!
-
Has Villar always had that leg wiggle? I don't remember it.
And Villar with the hit!
-
Astros with one run in, runners at the corner with no outs...
-
Happily, Holland isn't super sharp.
-
Conger with an RBI single, still runners at the corner with no outs
-
Conger! I like where this is going...
-
Has Villar always had that leg wiggle? I don't remember it.
And Villar with the hit!
Last night was the first time I can remember seeing it.
Alright Conger!
-
I just can't handle Ashby anymore. I'm watching the game while listening to Ford and Sparks. The video is about a half a minute behind the radio/audio but it is still the best option for me.
-
Marisnick with an RBI bunt...4-3 now, runner at 2B
-
Marisnick has shown some unorthodox ideas about getting to and around first over the last couple of days.
-

If you watch mlb.tv on a computer, there's an "audio overlay" button (or something like that). I'm streaming through our Apple TV where that is unfortunately not an option.

Do you by any chance have a PS4? You can do the audio overlay on that. And it's usually in pretty good sync as well.
-
Marisnick with an RBI bunt...4-3 now, runner at 2B
I'm going back and forth here over whether a bunt is wise when the pitcher's on the ropes like that. You get the score to 4-3, which is good, but... is it too early to sacrifice there (and yes, I imagine he was hoping for a bunt hit too)?
-
T2:
Rasmus walks
Carter doubles to RCF, Rasmus scores
Villar...full count...singles to LF past the diving Beltre, Carter had to hold and moves to 3B
Conger singles to LF, Carter scores, Villar to 3B
Marisnick bunts, fielded by the catcher out 2-3, but Villar scores, Conger to 3B
Springer hit by pitch
Altuve pops out F3 in foul territory
Correa bounces back to the mound
Astros score three times and cut the lead to 4-3
-

It's never too early to drive in a run.
-
Okay, the hitters got the team back in the game. McHugh better buckle the fuck down.
-
KBME audio is in perfect synch with the video.
-
Sad that McHugh has to really work and worry about a guy like Choo on the bases because his catcher is so pathetic
-
I really hate the Rangers. I think I may read a text book instead.
-

Stassi has played once since being called up??
-
KBME audio is in perfect synch with the video.
Yeah, I can get it for a little while but my video buffers for just a few seconds every three or four minutes or so.
-
B2:
Deshields flies out F9
Choo singles past the shift to RF
Fielder...full count...walks, Choo to 2B
Beltre strikes out looking
Moreland pops out F2 behind the plate
4-3 Rangers after two
-
Stassi has played once since being called up??
More than that I think.
-
Yeah, I can get it for a little while but my video buffers for just a few seconds every three or four minutes or so.
I haven't had that problem yet. Also, I just discovered that the commercials are muted. I don't have to listen to those infuriating Geico commercials, the equally infuriating State Farm commercials or see the same highlights from 1982 for the forty seven thousandth time. OutSTANding!
-
he's played in 5 games but only 7 at-bats. I was really wondering why Hinch hasn't started him in some of these games.
-
If you watch mlb.tv on a computer, there's an "audio overlay" button (or something like that). I'm streaming through our Apple TV where that is unfortunately not an option.
I stream the games on my Samsung "smart" TV.
-
T3:
Gattis flies out F8
Rasmus singles to CF
Carter blisters one on a line in the gap in LCF, but Deshields runs it down at the wall...that ball was smoked.
Villar pops out F7
Still 4-3
-
Carter has hit two balls extremely well tonight
-
Carter has hit two balls extremely well tonight
Well, he's due...
-
"Stinky" Odor is a shitass.
-
Sweet turn there.
-
B3:
Odor singles to CF...starts jawing to McHugh running down to 1B
Andrus grounds into 4-6-3 double play...nice flip and turn as Odor was right on top of Correa
Gallo walks
Gallo steals 2B
Gimenez strikes out swinging
Still 4-3 after three
-
I think I might be able to steal a base off of Conger. I know i could have 25 years ago... because I was a lot faster and he was like 2 or 3 years old.
-
Is that Bill Lumbergh behind home plate?
-
Chalk is chalk.
-
Astros with runners at the corner nobody out...
-
Nice to see the bottom of the order stepping up again.
-
OK Conger...don't be like Rasmus and stand at 3B and watch a double play
-
Hanks said, fuck it, review THIS.
-
we just need the whole line-up to start hitting together.
-
Jake looked like he did a little half-assed version of that shoulder brush thing. He almost looked embarrassed doing it.
-
OK Conger...don't be like Rasmus and stand at 3B and watch a double play
Are you already assuming there will be a double play?
-
George really needs to hit the shit out the ball.
-
so much for hitting the shit out of the ball.
-
a sac fly would at least tie the game.
-
a sac fly would at least tie the game.
Twice Altuve's had the tying run at 3B with one out, and couldn't hit one out of the infield.
-
If Altuve had gone into the box with no bat he would have walked about six pitches ago.
-
Beltre is a real son of a bitch, ain't he?
-
Bases juiced, two out for Gattis
-
If Altuve had gone into the box with no bat he would have walked about six pitches ago.
I don't think that would have stopped him from swinging at a few.
-
he's going to strike out. tying run at 3rd and no outs and they aren't going to plate him
-

Gattis with a 2-run single gives the Astros the lead!
-
Captain CAAAVVEEEMMMAAAANNNN!!!
-
I fully expect Colby to make the final out for the Astros in this inning.
-
T4:
Conger...full count...lines one down the LF line...1/1000th of a millimeter foul...Hinch challenging, but he's gonna lose this...doubles to RCF on the next pitch anyway
Marisnick singles up the middle, Conger limps into 3B as he's hobbling
Springer...3-1...taps one to 3B, out 5-3, Marisnick to 2B
Altuve...infield back...lines out to 3B
Correa intentionally walked to load the bases
Gattis singles to LF, Conger scores, Marisnick scores, Correa to 2B
Rasmus flies out F8
Astros score a pair and take the lead 5-4
-
Nice job by Conger.
-
I wonder if Fielder could steal against Conger.
-
Beltre is a real motherfucker, ain't he?
-
I wonder if Fielder could steal against Conger.
He can score from 1B without a throw on a double to LF
-
really sucks that the Astros couldn't hold the lead. I can't believe they couldn't get Fielder at the plate. That dude is slow.
-
I've seen it twice but I still don't understand what Rasmussen was doing out there.
-
I didn't see it, but I can't imagine that there could possibly be a double that scores Prince Fielder from first.
-
B4:
Deshields flies out F9
Choo strikes out looking
Fielder...no shift this time...grounds a single to where Altuve was the last two at bats
Beltre doubles down LF line, Fielder comes all the way around from 1B and scores without a throw as Correa bobbles the relay
That's it for McHugh, Thatcher in
Moreland...full count...grounds out 4-3
We've played 2 hours and 4 innings...tied 5-5
-
I didn't see it, but I can't imagine that there could possibly be a double that scores Prince Fielder from first.
I did see and can't believe it happened.
-
I didn't see it, but I can't imagine that there could possibly be a double that scores Prince Fielder from first.
Fielder isn't a slow as he looks, and if you don't hit the cutoff man, anyone can score on a double.
-
I did see and can't believe it happened.
Without a throw even. The BBGs are in a mood!
-
Fielder isn't a slow as he looks, and if you don't hit the cutoff man, anyone can score on a double.
And with two outs he's running on contact.
-
T5:
Carter flies out F7
Villar grounds out 6-3
Conger flies out F8
Still tied 5-5
-
And with two outs he's running on contact.
Can't help but think Valbuena makes that play on Beltre.
-
Valbuena's not hurt from getting hit yesterday is he? I hope he just isn't in because it was Holland pitching.
-
Ashby uses a lot of words that he thinks he knows how to use but doesn't.

you should stop reading bullshit Twitter tweets.
Honestly, I don't care if he gets ROY, I'd rather they win the division.
-
I'd really like Jake to join the 10+ HR club the Astros have.
-
I can't believe Holland is still in this game.
-
When I see Joey Gallo strike out I think of the Bob Dylan song; Joey, about "Crazy" Joe Gallo, the mobster, and the line in the chorus about him getting blown away.
-
That jerky ass curve Holland always throws for strike one, I'd like to see some right handed batter yank the shit out of it.
-
Boy, Altuve has wheels.
-
Altuve!!!!
-
Altuve finally is able to knock Holland out of this game.
Nice hustle on his triple.
-
These guys don't like pitching to Correa.
-
easier to get the other 8 out.
-
T6:
Marisnick...full count...strikes out swinging at ball that almost hits his foot
Springer lines out to SS
Altuve fouls off a pitch headed for his dick...triples off the RF wall
That's it for Holland, Ohlendorf in
Correa...takes a 2-0 hanger for strike one...3-1...check swing ground out 6-3...terrible at bat.
Still tied 5-5
-
Now that everyone's favorite orange juice commercial is aired the Astros can win.

That's not how I'd handle my 4-year-old pouring orange juice all over the place.

According to Evan at the Chron
Castro could comeback at less than full speed
Jason Castro (right quad strain) might be activated from the disabled list this series without being able to run at 100 percent. He’s not a fast runner to begin with, as he jokingly pointed out Tuesday.
“He’s got to do more and more and more activity,” Hinch said. “We’re going to have to make a determination how comfortable we are activating him at less than 100 percent speed wise. It’s very hard to ask a player to govern himself on the field and play less than 100 percent. In this instance, as a catcher whose speed is not his forte, we may ask him to do that.”

Marisnick should be in center every night.
Colby had a rough night in the outfield. An error led to an unearned run, missing the cutoff man cost a run, and an unspectacular 9th in CF

yes, I really thought they wouldn't.

That was an amazing and unexpected run by the Astros, first place from the beginning until the fifteenth of September. They'll never see first place again this season I don't think, nor do I think they'll see a wild card berth. But it will be interesting to see what the FO does to correct the offensive woes that have mocked a very good pitching staff.
-
Keuchel and or McCullers will have to go absolutely thermonuclear to avoid the sweep at this point...
-
Well, the Astros made it to September 25th in first place. Now if they can just finish above .500, it'll be a solid year.

this doesn't surprise me coming from you. but at least your giving them 10 more days

Well, they got a one game lead for the second wild card spot, but that won't last long.

This makes no sense at all.

Stolen from another forum:
Since July 3rd, the Astros are 29-33....but with a +40 run differential, one that would expect them to have gone 36-26.
Houston's first 72 games: 317 runs scored and 279 runs allowed. PYTHAG RECORD: 41-31. ACTUAL RECORD: 41-31.
Houston's NEXT 72 games: 311 runs scored and 246 runs allowed. PYTHAG RECORD: 44-28. ACTUAL RECORD: 36-36.
Something something clutch something... Yuck.
And in other news, this bullpen is totally gassed.
-
Harris has not been sharp of late. He might need a break from the high pressure scenarios for a bit.

today is the 15th, not the 25th.

Ah. Got it.

Stolen from another forum:
That's because every so often the bats go nutso and score 18 runs. I'm sure they'll do that again a time or two between now and Arizona.

None of that crap matters. What matters? Since May...14-36 on the road. You just can't make it on that

Astros lose the game, the lead and the rangers are now planning their world series parade.
Aren't they still tied in the win column?

Everyone should know by now that wins don't matter, only losses.

Everything is up. I would've liked to see Gregerson there but I'm fine with AJ's decision.
We have our ace going tonight, this is what we need him for.

I could not be happier with what this team has done this year. And I can't help but think that the FO needs to make sure the bullpen next year stays solid and add a first baseman who can hit and a third baseman who can hit.
-
People talking like the season is over. It's not. A good run might still be in the near future.

exactly right.

It'd be nice to have a DH who could hit more consistently and didn't go through prolonged stretches of not being able to drive a run in. But I'd just settle for an average first baseman.

I forget we have a DH. Though soon enough everyone will have one.
It seems to me they need two more good hitters in the lineup to be consistently successful.

I knew they were bad on the road, but seeing actual numbers like that... yikes!
So I'll play Ashby on this: "So what's the difference between how they play at home versus how they play on the road. I don't have an answer for it, but it's intriguing."
