If you didn't see Waldo's recap from Saturday, it was very funny.

If you didn't see Waldo's recap from Saturday, it was very funny.
+1
-
T1:
Springer flies out F8
Altuve sees 11 pitches, but grounds out sharply 6-3
Gattis beats the shift with a single to RF
Tucker...works the count 3-0 in his favor and walks on the fourth, Gattis to 2B
Carter...misses a 1-0 cookie...lines one to LF, Cabrera with a diving grab in LF to end the inning.
Astros leave a pair, Sox coming to bat. 0-0
-
B1:
Eaton with a chopper to 3B, Valbuena makes a nice play cutting it off for a 5-3
Ramirez chops back to the box...1-3
Abreu pops out F4
Quick 6 pitch inning for Keuchel
No score after 1
-
T2:
Correa, with the high socks, leads off....gets carved up on three pitches for a swinging strike out
Conger stings one to LF, but right at Cabrera for F7
Valbuena, 0 fer last 15, pops up near the dugout, Flowers looked a little jake legged and no out, so Valbuena can swing and miss a slider in the dirt.
-
White Sox with three straight singles to load the bases with nobody out in the 2nd.
-
Shallow fly ball gets the first out with no chance to tag. Still bases drunk with 1 out.
-
I was driving home listening to the game on XM, which means that I got the ChiSox broadcast team. Oh my god they're awful, as in making-Ashby-sound-like-Vin-Scully awful. And it didn't even involve Harrelson.
-
Keuchel gets a punchout for the second out.
-
Nice to see somebody else fuck up with the bases loaded and no outs.
-
B2:
Garcia leads off with a single to CF
Rodon getting his hand looked at
Soto, with the shift on...lines one to Altuve's old spot for a single, Garcia to 2B
Cabrera singles to LF to load the bases with nobody out.
Beckham flies out to shallow CF, no chance for Cabrera to tag and score
Flowers strikes out swinging
Bonifacio grounds into FC, Soto out 5-4
Keuchel strands the bases loaded no out...
We've played two...still 0-0
-
Nice to see somebody else fuck up with the bases loaded and no outs.
Amen to that.
-

since i'm in chicago i'm forced into the local broadcast. harrelson makes me want to stab my eyes out.
-
The Home-plate ump is the ficking same poor blind bastard that wasn't up to snuff at first last night. Cocksucker.
-
T3:
Marisnick grounds out 3U
Springer drills one to the LCF gap for a double
Altuve...gets two pitches at his shoulders called a strike...works the count full...strikes out on a slider that bounced at his back foot.
Gattis grounds out 5-3
Astros strand another RISP...
Still no score.
-
The Home-plate ump is the ficking same poor blind bastard that wasn't up to snuff at first last night. Cocksucker.
He called two strikes on Altuve that were shoulder level or higher. Of course, Altuve didn't help himself by swinging at a 3-2 pitch that pretty much hit his foot.
-
B3:
Eaton with a slow roller to Altuve that just nips the runner
There's a girl with big titties, wearing an Astros tank top, sitting behind the visitor on-deck circle
Ramirez grounds out 4-3
Abreu lines to RF
No score after 3
-
They need to do some damage here.
-
Single, HBP puts two with no out for Correa
-
Damn, the stuff of slumps.
-
Correa robbed by a diving stab at 3B.
-
Three ducks on the pond...one out for Valbuena
-
He called two strikes on Altuve that were shoulder level or higher. Of course, Altuve didn't help himself by swinging at a 3-2 pitch that pretty much hit his foot.
He thought Dave Winfield was up to bat.
-
Ugh. Another bases loaded strikeout.
-
Where have you gone, Jed Lowrie-o? A nation turns its lonely eyes to you.
-
That's pretty lame. Fastball right down the center and WHIFF.
-
T4:
Tucker leads off with a single to CF
Carter HBP on a 3-0 pitch, Tucker to 2B
Ashby babbling
Correa lines one to 3B...Beckham lays out horizontal to grab it...tough luck for the kid
Conger walks to load the bases
Valbuena...works the count in his favor 3-1...now full...and swings through a belt high fastball right down the middle
Marisnick grounds into FC, Conger out 6-4
Astros with another 3 left on base.
-

In Valbuena's defense, he did foul off a bunch of pitches. But strike three was right down the middle.
-
The inability to make contact when a runner is at 3B is now officially pathetic. At this rate, I don't see how they're going to win another game this year.
-

Strike one was right down the middle. As were all of them he fouled off.
-
This home plate ump is pretty stingy with his strikes. Unless it's at your chin.
-

Yeah, this is a real problem with a strikeout-or-homer lineup: no productive outs.
-
I'd say that Valbuena and Marisnick have struggled lately, but sadly, there are many more.
Springer and Altuve have looked better lately, but that's a small consolation.
-
B4:
Garcia strikes out swinging
Soto strikes out looking
Cabrera grounds out 4-3
Still scoreless after 4
-
T5:
Springer grounds out 6-3
Altuve loops one to 2B for the F4
Gattis...on a 2-0 pitch swings at one in the other batter's box and hits a dribbler back to the mound to end the inning
-
Yeah, this is a real problem with a strikeout-or-homer lineup: no productive outs.
It's really frustrating as there is no plate discipline whatsoever. They just hack and hack and any garbage thrown. An opposing pitcher can get three strikeouts without having to come within 12 inches of the plate.
-
For any Longhorn fans wondering what happened to Taylor Jungmann, he has struggled mightily in pro ball but he surprising got the call up and got a major league win against the Pirates. 7 innings, 3 hits, one earnie.
-
B5:
Beckham grounds out 5-3 on a nice play by Valbuena...right on the line behind the bag
Flowers walks
Bonifacio rolls one to 3B, Flowers out 5-4, but no chance for two. Bonifacio reaches on the FC
Eaton grounds out 4-3
Still no score after 5
-
Correa hit the fuck out of that ball.
-
Ashby: "Once Cooper walks away from the mound, he [Rodon] has to face Hank Conger."
I'll bet that scares the shit out of him.
-
Correa with a 2-out single
-
Correa with his first big league bag!
-
T6:
Tucker strikes out looking
Carter flies out F7
Correa lines one into LF for a single
Correa steals 2B
Conger pops up F3 to strand another RISP
-
lost my god damn feed.
-
Correa may be the best player on the team right now.
-
lost my god damn feed.
No problem. Nobody can score.
I keep meaning to ask: did the Slack Shack survive the rains/floods ok? Kept thinking about you while I was watching the Weather Channel in Colorado.
-
Correa may be the best player on the team right now.
Well, Altuve is pretty good, but if Correa isn't #1 he's probably #2.
-
Correa may be the best player on the team right now.
Don't forget about the man on the mound
-
Ashby: "Once Cooper walks away from the mound, he [Rodon] has to face Hank Conger."
I'll bet that scares the shit out of him.
It certainly gave me that sinking feeling in my stomach.
-
2-run HR from Abreu gives Sox a 2-0 lead
-
Well, fuck me sideways. This stretch sucks. Guys are hitting really good pitches out, and now they're hitting them out after other guys get on base with fluke hits. And now it feels like last year, where you felt like they were doomed if the other team scored at all.
-

Well if you don't score many runs you will have a hard time winning. I think this team needs to figure out LHers. The ChiSox put them into this skid and are prolonging it.
-
No problem. Nobody can score.
I keep meaning to ask: did the Slack Shack survive the rains/floods ok? Kept thinking about you while I was watching the Weather Channel in Colorado.
The Slack Shack was unscathed. The Guadalupe is raging but way down from the house. It's quite a sight and all the tubing places are unable to open but the tubing places on the Comal are killing it. Also, because of the flooding I've worked a minimum 10 hours each day (except this past Sunday) since Memorial day.
-

That's the mysterious thing: this is a right-handed team. Why are lefties so devastating against them?
-
Didn't Oswalt advise Keuchel he has to pitch a shut out?
-

Actually, the Orioles put them into this skid.

Glad to hear it. I thought I remembered you saying that there was a long, gentle slope down to the river, so I was hoping there was enough room there to avoid trouble.
-
This is agonizing. It's like they can't score unless somebody accidentally runs into a mistake pitch, and even then it'll be a solo shot. What's the team OBP in the last couple of weeks?
-
I am so sick of the strike outs. So effing sick of them.
-

Getting on base hasn't been as much of a problem as their inability to put a ball in play once they do.
-
I am so sick of the strike outs. So effing sick of them.
See, after the last four years, one would think you've gotten used to them.
-
and Texas is only 3 games back. the rangers are in second. wtf?
-
See, after the last four years, one would think you've gotten used to them.
The losing dulled the pain. This year they awakened the nerve endings again, and the pain has returned.
-
See, after the last four years, one would think you've gotten used to them.
you would think that, after all I did see a lot of them since I had comcast at the time.
-
That will teach them to run off Conger.
-
There it is...the ol' strike em out batter interference out double play.
-
Well, that's an unusual double-play.
-
and Texas is only 3 games back. the rangers are in second. wtf?
At this rate, they're gonna be in first before Friday happy hour.
-
At this rate, they're gonna be in first before Friday happy hour.
that will so suck, but it does seem possible

Considering I don't see how the Astros are ever gonna score again, I'd say it's pretty much inevitable.
-

If I read the stats right on baseball-reference, OBP on 5/31 was .333 at the end of yesterday's game .206.
-
This series feels just like the 2005 World Series. A beatable opponent, and the offense is completely AWOL.

Except we kept having leads to blow in the Series...

They are at .302 as of yesterday.
-
Team batting average is .234, the lowest it's been since 1968.
-
That strike 2 call on Tucker sure appeared to be colossal bullshit.
-
Team batting average is .234, the lowest it's been since 1968.
Is that bad?
-
Why would this have the .206 as the team OBP?

The home plate ump decided he was done for the night two innings ago.

http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/CHA/CHA201506080.shtml
I think that's for that game only.
-
OBP for June (not including tonight) is .280, which is not good, but it's better than I thought it was.
-

That's for that game only. Here is the season total:

-
Qualls in, so naturally a couple of hits put runners at the corner with nobody out for the Sox.
-
Garcia steals 2B, is up dusting himself off about the time Conger's throw reaches 2B. Two in scoring position, nobody out.
-
Qualls in, so naturally a couple of hits put runners at the corner with nobody out for the Sox.
You talk as if it matters.
-
Only the '63, '64, and '68 teams finished the season with a lower team batting average than the .234 that the current team sports. Those were not good teams.
-
Qualls is wearing Conger out back there.
-
Good grief, Qualls.
-
Qualls goes 0-2 on the hitter, than bounces four straight to load the bases with no outs
-
Agent Qualls works his magic.
-
Cabrera with a 2-run double over Tucker's head. Still runners at 2B and 3B and nobody out.
4-0 Sox.
That's it for Qualls.
-
This is shaping up to be a very quallsy inning.
But there has been some outstanding pitch framing, I have to say.
-
I am so sick of the strike outs. So effing sick of them.
540 Strike Outs (not including pitchers). leads the league.
-
The good news is that Fields is jogging in with no apparent limp. Need to savor the small victories.
-
540 Strike Outs (not including pitchers). leads the league.
On pace to challenge their thought-to-be-untouchable record from 2013.
-
hard to win if you score 0 runs.
not that i'm excusing qualls.
-
Both Tyson Perez and Stoffel are doing well at Fresno.
-

Can they hit?

Clearly pitch framing is not everything.
-
On pace to challenge their thought-to-be-untouchable record from 2013.
2014 2nd with 1442
2013 1st with 1535
2012 2nd with 1365
that is fugly
-
Shit, how could I anoint Correa best player when I know full well Fields is out there?
-
Ashby babbling about losses and has no clue what the scores were.
-
Walk loads the bases...still nobody out in the 8th.
-
Correa is probably wondering if he can go back to Fresno.
-
That loss on Sunday really stings now.
-
Nice to see somebody else fuck up with the bases loaded and no outs.
they don't do it every time though.
-
Do y'all think the Astros will retire Fields' number before or after he's inducted into the Hall of Fame?
-
Do y'all think the Astros will retire Fields' number before or after he's inducted into the Hall of Fame?
I believe it is FIELDS!
and before
-
And after all that...Fields strikes out the side to leave the bases loaded. The Sox only get two
three outs left...chasing four.
-
Do y'all think the Astros will retire Fields' number before or after he's inducted into the Hall of Fame?
Fields just came in with runners at 2B and 3B and nobody out, and struck out the side without allowing run to score. And you're gonna rag on him?
That's aces right there.
-
Carter pops up to shallow RF, but Tanner Boyle, Timmy Lupus and Kelly Leake all converge and let it drop for a double.
-
I am pleasantly shocked that Karter got a double out of that. so many players don't hustle there.
-
Correa!!!!
First ML Dinger!!!
4-2 now.
-
hell to the yeah
all hail correa!
-

You can thank me for tuning away to the basketball game.
-

Are you crazy? I've been saying that Fields is the best player on the team since last year. Now he's got competition from Correa.
-
Great to see, but sort of bittersweet. Damn Qualls.
-
That was beautiful.
Did y'all notice the nifty footwork from Carter on the slide as well?
-
That lady almost died.
-
You can thank me for tuning away to the basketball game.
thank you.
too bad correa can't bat again.
-
Closer Robertson in now for the save for the Sox.
-
Conger lines a single to RF...tying run to the plate, nobody out.
-
I am pleasantly shocked that Karter got a double out of that. so many players don't hustle there.
Carter's continued whiffing is wearing me out, but I have to give him credit for a number of things: his defense has been totally adequate, and even outstanding at times; he has shown some ability to take walks; he never shows anybody up or complains when things don't go his way; and in the dugout he always seems to have a smile for his teammates.
I just wish he could get back somewhere near where he was in the second half last year as a hitter.
-
Valbuena rides one to the warning track, but out number one
-
Valbuena is the worst batter in history with runners on base. Look it up.
-
Valbuena rides one to the warning track, but out number one
Damn, I thought for a moment that we might be doing to somebody else what they've been doing to us.
-
Valbuena is the worst batter in history with runners on base. Look it up.
I'm not looking up stats anymore tonight.
-
Rasmus is totally lost on the breaking balls, as he flails at three straight, never coming close to touching one.
-
Conger takes 2B, as Springer it up as the Astros last chance.
-
I'm not looking up stats anymore tonight.
His batting average is about .100 with no power. Most of his RBI are himself.
-
Valbuena's ball had about the same trajectory off the bat as Correa's but Correa's went thirty rows into the seats.
-
That was nowhere close to a strike

Bring back Dominguez! Wait, what?
-
Springer works a 3-0 count...has ball four called a strike...has ball five called strike two...flies out F9 to end the game.

Springer is going to get a post-game ejection, but he's absolutely right.

I'm counting down to Bregman.
-
I think that's 0 for 9 with RISP tonight. Couple that with an appearance by Qualls, and it's not gonna end well.
-
Altuve should be at the plate right now. Fuck
-
That was umpiring at its worst.
Took the bat right out of his hands.
-
Robertson could have thrown the 3-2 pitch to Wrigley and gotten a strike call.

If LeBron can pull that off, with this motley crew, he starts serious discussion of replacing Jordan as the GOAT.

utter bullshit calls there,
-
utter bullshit calls there,
Strike 2 was at least borderline, but Strike 1 was horrible even by the typically dreadful 3-0 pitch standards of MLB umps. I was impressed that Springer channeled his anger enough to give that last pitch a good opposite-field ride.
-

Carter's 2014 second half: .252/.338/.521
Carter the past 30 days: .253/.364/.483
I'd say he's come around, it just doesn't look like it when they're not winning.
-
Qualls has no business in high-leverage situations anymore. When we're winning, it has to be Fields, Harris and/or Neshek, with Gregerson to close. Qualls can come in when we're losing.

By high leverage, I mean a close game, whether or not we're winning. By losing, I mean losing by five runs or more.

Thanks for that. My lying eyes are obviously deceiving me a bit.

Thanks for that. My lying eyes are obviously deceiving me a bit.
No. Carter's "second half" was really about a 4-6 week period in which he was Babe Ruth. The rest of the time he was Chris Carter.
