Post by: Duke on October 11, 2013, 07:40:07 am
Leaving for Dallas in about an hour for my one visit a year. I hear I-35 is royally torn up between Salado and Hillsoro.  Yeah!  Still I'm looking forward to the trip.  Sausage, chesse and jalapeno klobasnicki in West.  Dinner at the French room tonight and then the game tomorrow follwed by Booker's and cigars if we win or just more Booker's if we loose.

HOOK 'EM!!!!

Have a big time!!!

Thanks!  We're doing the State Fair today instead of after the game tomorrow.  Gotta get a pictrure of the new Big Tex and eat a Fleetcher's corny dog.  Interested to see what's new and cool in the car world.

Corndogs taste better there than anywhere else in the world. I'll skip on the fried butter and fried Coca-Cola though.

I checked in a few hours ago (I'm here for work, will miss the game).  The hotel the clients booked for me turns out to be the official OU Alumni Charter Circle of Hell - all the hotel staff wear OU shirts, there are balloons, bunting, banners covered in crimson and jizz, and the flatscreens around the hotel are playing a continuous loop of Longhorn lowlights.

Every single fucking person here is a rabid OU fan.  And me.

Remind them that the line has plummeted from 14 to 13.5 and see if those pigfuckers have a snappy retort for THAT.

Just hopped on the elevator to go grab a Laphroaig at the bar.  A pile of towels covered in shit greeted me at the door.
Sooner or not, what the fuck is wrong with people?

Yeah, I've seen DB's actually throw themselves into tackles. It's a Christmas miracle.

The bottom line is that Mack is still a good coach. While this may be his last year, he can go out with his head held high, having whooped Bob Fucking Stoops.

I would agree with your second statement.  On the first, at least he finally got out of his coordinators' way.

Someone was still calling those stupid wide receiver screens. Whoever that is needs to be fired.

Makes you wonder what Robinson could have done with this defense had he been around for the off-season program. A month into it and the difference is remarkable.

There were still a few instances of poor tackling yesterday, but there has been a drastic improvement.

That's not necessarily a given.  We may never know the full extent to which Mack still meddles on the offensive side (w.r.t. the aforementioned WR screens).

That also doesn't absolve Applewhite of his share of the blame for past and future mistakes.

As he started to go for the tackle, you could practically see the realization that that guy was huge forming in McCoy's mind.

Most fun I've ever hat at the Cotton Bowl, but it was hotter than hell.

It was inbelievably humid.  I sit under the upper deck in the shade and I was sweating like poodle at Micheal Vick's house.  The lines on both sides of the ball dominated.  OU isn't deep on the defensive line and those boys were sucking eggs in the 4th.  What a game.  I have never seen the Solooner fans leave in the 3rd quarter like that.

I thought Andy Staples had a near-perfect lede to his summary of the game:

Quote
Before a lot of divorces, the unhappy couple has one sweet day when circumstances conspire to stop the fighting, bring back the smiles and make both parties remember what made the relationship great. For those blissful hours, it feels like the good old days before the union began to rot. Occasionally, those days help rekindle the romance. Usually, they fail to stop the inevitable.

Saturday felt like such a day for Mack Brown and Texas.

if all it does is allow him to leave on a high note, that is good. OB was readable for the first time in a very long time.

Sometimes you reconcxile qand don't diovorce.

This weekend was the most fun I've had in Dallas in a long time.  I actually had a sooner tell me he felt sorry for me when I was in the beer line at the fair before the game.  He was about 30 and I said "Son, you seem to lack historical perespective.  59-43-5"  Now it's 60.  HOOK 'EM!

The game-ending drive was a thing of beauty. OU may have been deflated after turning it over on downs, but seeing Texas line up and methodically run it down their throats to kill the last few minutes gave me great joy.

Duke... I would have loved to have had any shade in the 4th quarter. At one point I went up to grab a water and saw that there were Texas fans stacked about 4-5 deep watching from the concourse, just to escape the sun.

agree wholeheartedly. the stop was huge, and I loved killing the clock running right at them.

some idiot on OB criticized Gray by saying most of his runs are 3-4 yards. I have no idea if that is correct, but there is nothing wrong with a 4 yard run!

I know Mack would never run up the score but a part of me was hoping they would hang 40 on them

It's been a blessing on more than one occasion.  After the sun came out it was miserable.  Houston kind of humidity.

He averaged 4 and a quarter per carry.  I'll take that any day.  The draw play was beautiful.  Did Chip Brown predict a win on OB or the zone on Friday?  I was listening to a college football show on XM that had Gene Chizik and another annoucer on the way home yesterday.  They interviewed Chip and he said he called the win on Friday.

+1 Anything above four per carry is gravy, in my opinion.

Brown added 5.2 yards ave. on 23 carries. As good as I can remember him looking. Maybe he's finally healthy.
