Wait, you're on the left coast and you're not even going to trek 'a few miles' up the 101 to visit?!?  I SERIOUSLY hope for your sake that is NOT the case...

Don't think JD would have avoided being doubled off on that liner, but I would have still preferred to see him freeze on the liner and then bust it back.

Apropos of nothing, I would dearly love to see a pitcher named Beowulf face Grendal.

While I can't fault him there, he's not the best base runner at I've ever seen.

I imagine he is testing, but who is going to fall for that.  CJ has become somewhat of a basket case at the plate: weird little tics, talking to himself, mumbling at the umps as he walks back to the dugout after another K.

Nope. I fear that we're not going to get anything off of Volquez. OUR ONLY CHANCE IS TO RUN UP HIS PITCH COUNT AND GET INTO THE BULLPEN.

Not sure if the numbers back my claim up, but this Astros offense seems historically bad.  They flirt with being no hit almost weekly, and it feels more regular than that.  I can only imagine the sentiment in the clubhouse.

They're not historically bad, they're just fine, they'll win their share of games, they have a lot of peppy guys who are fun to watch, you're a negativist, the outstanding drafts that the team had under the last FO will show up and shine soon, etc etc etc.

/shlong gorvelling necks that I have no time to ague with anymore

What they really need to worry about in the clubhouse is playing at a level to fucking keep their major league jobs because there is not a one of them who would play on a good team. I said this earlier in the year and the SGNs wanted to argue with me.

I feel like the hitting will be slightly better next year. The big question is the pitching. Wandy and Myers are likely gone, and Bud has taken a huge backward tumble this year. And no one looks that ready in AAA/AA beyond Keuchel, who's not a savior.

Season: 6.66

Bad.

Thanks. That is bad. The last I'd heard were the April numbers. Maybe he's more suspect than prospect? What's been his problem? Location? Command? They're obviously hitting him pretty hard to rack up those types of numbers.

His work this year is so completely different than any other year I'm wondering if he's hiding an injury.

I only saw one game, but he essentially had no secondary pitches. His fastball worked OK, but nothing to complement it.

Wouldn't be surprising at all. He was getting some great reviews during spring training, and something has obviously changed since then.

There is always the chance they've changed his mechanics and....nah. He was the most talked about pitching prospect during ST. Something's amiss.

I don't think he is injured.  He probably progressed through the lower minors on his fastball alone. Now it's caught up to him. Wouldn't be the first time.

Except that his first three starts this year were great.  Then he missed two weeks and came back not the same.

Luhnow saw Oberholtzer pitch earlier this month in OKC and he tweeted that he would be a ML pitcher.  He must have seen him on one of his good days as he's been up and down but Keuchel struggled when he first went to AAA and it came together this year. I haven't given up on he or Clemens yet.

Certainly leads credence to your claim, but it hard for me to imagine an injury that they are aware of and is causing him problems, yet they haven't let him shut it down and heal.

Re: Oberholzer.  He's another I have seen and would be damn surprised to see him as a major league starter.  Though he is younger than Clemens and is a lefty.
