The Piranha in the six tonight? I like it.
-
its chilly up there
-
The Piranha in the six tonight? I like it.
Honestly, where does he belong in this lineup? Admittedly I'm showing my ignorance here, but isn't there something to batting him/JD/Lee 3-4-5?
-
one away
-
two out
-
jd walked
-
no runs not hits inning over
-
bud just drilled ricky weeks ..retalitation?
-
here we go
-
no runs not hits inning over
Seriously Fredia?!? If you want to do PBP thanks, PBP is appreciated. If you want to pull this bullshit go to the TZ or something...
-
did you hear what jd said?
-
here we go
Yep, nice to see Bud dot him right out of the gate.
-

While you could argue that he's a man without a good spot other than that he has to be in there, I think that on this team, he is a three. However, he's not your prototypical three, so he probably wouldn't hit there with many other clubs. He's still young, so his proper spot will be a challenge as he is a work in progress.
-
Bud starting off with a little fire in his belly it'd seem. Nice innings work! End 1: HOU 0, MIL 0
-
Fuck the Brewers!
-

NOtice that Gamel isn't playing tonight, so Bud dotted Weeks. He had to do it. I'm not watching right now. Did HPU warn the benches after that?
-
Altuve just went oppo at Miller Park. Damn.
-
MR. THE ALTUVE with some nice pop the other way!!!
-
So Altuve should be hitting clean up?
-
Wolf just threw a 55 MPH curve to Snyder. WOW!
-
Altuve just went oppo at Miller Park. Damn.
The Piranha has some pop in his bat, but before you get all crazy about it, remember that he hit it off of Randy Wolf.
-
Wow. My kind of speed!
-
Did HPU warn the benches after that?
I believe JD said there was no warning.
-
I believe JD said there was no warning.
Correct, no warning.
Damn Snyder is slow BTW...
Middle 2: HOU 1, MIL 0
-
The Piranha has some pop in his bat, but before you get all crazy about it, remember that he hit it off of Randy Wolf.
And Carlos put a charge in one the inning before, but couldn't put it out to left center... Not sure how much weight your argument has in that regard...
-
I think Jeff Luhnow is a big fan of The Altuve.
-
He leads the team in slugging so cleanup wouldn't be ridiculous. After JD, is only 33 points behind him but after that it is Shreefer 128 points behind him.
The best lineup would be:
1) Mr. The Altuve
2) Mr. The Altuve
3) Mr. The Altuve
4) JD Martinez
5) Mr. The Altuve
6) Mr. The Altuve
7) Mr. The Altuve
8 ) Mr. The Altuve
-

Luhnow better have a science lab.
-
i do like bud.
-
Going to ammend it. Altuve doesn't really have enough speed for the leadoff:
1) Shreefer
2) Mr. The Altuve
3) Mr. The Altuve
4) JD Martinez
5) Mr. The Altuve
6) Mr. The Altuve
7) Mr. The Altuve
8 ) Mr. The Altuve

i do like bud.
Struck out 4 that inning... Ties the HOU record last accomplished by Dotel in the No-No vs. the Yankmes!
ETA: Lucas says it was last done in '04 by Lidge.
-
Add Norris to the ever growing list of pitchers tied all time for 4 Ks in an inning. With this catching duo I think an Astros pitcher will have a good shot at 5 this year
-
mayve the catchers will improve. altuve 22 hits
-
The 3-1 pitch to Mr. The Altuve looked like a K. Alas, looped the 3-2 into left center for a single and his 9th multi-hit game!
-
JD just invoked Altuve's pissant status for opposing pitchers.
-
finally the astros may have a pissant.
-
dont say that the nick name will stick
-
dont say that the nick name will stick
I think Piranha is the one that will stick.
-
finally the astros may have a pissant.
I love him, but how was Biggio not a pissant?
-
Pretty special night so far, with Bud's fine first pitch, The Altuve's jack and the 4K inning.
-
I think Jeff Luhnow is a big fan of The Altuve.
Funny thing is that on Luhnow's arrival I got the impression that he was anything but an Altuve believer...
-
They've made Wolf work pretty hard. 79 pitches through 4
-
I love him, but how was Biggio not a pissant?
slider away

So far its been a joy to watch!
-

Statistically Altuve doesn't stand a chance
-
They've made Wolf work pretty hard. 79 pitches through 4
On 2 hits no less...
-
I love him, but how was Biggio not a pissant?
I don't recall ever hearing him referred that way. No reason other than that.
-
I don't recall ever hearing him referred that way. No reason other than that.
Biggio was no pissant, he was a team-killing Agent of Doom for the Astros.
-
I don't recall ever hearing him referred that way. No reason other than that.
I don't think you can be a pissant if your talent exceeds a certain level. The guys that are pissants are the ones who don't seem like they should be beating you but are anyway. With Biggio you could clearly understand why he was beating you.
-
:) I like bogusevic also.
-
Carlos doing a legit job at 1B this year. Nice grab by the fence with the spin-and-turn spot-on throw to 3B to hold the runner at 2B.
-
Love that double play! Can of corn to right field, haw.
-

Am I understanding you correctly that fernando vina and david eckstein did not have talent that exceeded a certain level?
-
And Error-miss with one of the baserunning variety allows his to get doubled off at 2B after the lazy pop to Bogusevic in RF. End 3: HOU 1, MIL 0
-
Weeks with a nice leaping grab to rob Bud of a hit to lead-off T4.
-
Lyles with a no-hitter through 5 (2 walks though)
-
You have to be short to be a pissant. Hell, Vina was listed at 5 foot 9 inches, so he was either a liar or a bigger than average pissant.
-
Am I understanding you correctly that fernando vina and david eckstein did not have talent that exceeded a certain level?
They didn't exceed the talent level of a pissant. They were guys who would beat you and you'd say, "How the hell did that happen?"
-
You have to be short to be a pissant. Hell, Vina was listed at 5 foot 9 inches, so he was either a liar or a bigger than average pissant.
Fernando Vina was THE pissant. Shane Victorino has a lot of pissant in him too.
-
I don't care what JD and Brownie say, I still think that Gamel lowered his shoulder with intent. I know what I saw.
-
crap. Ishy with a 2 run homer. the 7 and 8 batters score.
-
why is it everytime i start to watch a game the astros give up the lead and end up losing? i'm really tired of it because it makes me sad.
-
I don't care what JD and Brownie say, I still think that Gamel lowered his shoulder with intent. I know what I saw.
Agreed.
-
Singleton with a monster shot tonight in CC. When he gets here will be beaten to death with the Killer Js, considering the entire lineup could be Js? Jordan, Jed, JD, Jonathon, Johnson, JB, Jason, Jose, JA....
Speaking of J's, Jordan Lyles is dealing in OKC tonight.
-
Like I said... Carlos is playing some nice D at 1B this season...
-
Travis fucking Ishikawa???? You gotta be kidding me! He of the punch and judy first sacker variety.
-
why is it everytime i start to watch a game the astros give up the lead and end up losing? i'm really tired of it because it makes me sad.
Stick around BG. It's not you.
-
Like I said... Carlos is playing some nice D at 1B this season...
Agreed. Carlos is a far better 1B than he ever was in LF.
-
Travis fucking Ishikawa???? You gotta be kidding me! He of the punch and judy first sacker variety.
Brett Wallace before there was Brett Wallace.
-
Stick around BG. It's not you.
i like bud but bud doesn't seem to like me.

Wheels just kinda came off this inning... You're love'll pull him through it though BG!

maybe...

Quickly puts on the spare
-
maybe...
Oh ye of little faith (but much love evidently...)
-
Quickly puts on the spare
Its all budgirl. She saved that'n for him!
-
Bud did entice the Peen to ground into a twin killing, which heartened me significantly. And the Peen blows a play in LF to allow JD to score. Fuck you, Peen.
-
not sure when i missed it but why are you all calling him peen?
-
Bud did entice the Peen to ground into a twin killing, which heartened me significantly. And the Peen blows a play in LF to allow JD to score. Fuck you, Peen.
And Carlos enticed The Peen to lay out for one (not close), scoring JD and ending up on 2B. Tie game.
-
The Altuve up with a ruinner at 3B and one out. Come on, baby.
-
not sure when i missed it but why are you all calling him peen?
If you were BudGUY instead of BudGIRL you'd know...
-
not sure when i missed it but why are you all calling him peen?
Because his head looks like a penis.
-
If you were BudGUY instead of BudGIRL you'd know...
oh, now i understand.
-
The Altuve doesn't take 3-0
-
What dumb ass gave a rookie a green light on 3-0? he rolls over and can't score the run. That's *not* how a good six does it.
-
F'in Altuve... (groundout on the 3-0 pitch...).
-
F'in Altuve... (groundout on the 3-0 pitch...).
it would be nice, but i don't think he'll hit them all safely.
-
Am I understanding you correctly that fernando vina and david eckstein did not have talent that exceeded a certain level?
Yes.
-
Well fuck me. Methuselah goes six tonight, allows only one earnie, lowering his ERA to 2.28, but his bully failed him, so he'll get a no decision.
-
Well fuck. A runner on 3B with one out and can't get him home. Sigh. Get used to it. It's going to happen all year.
-
it would be nice, but i don't think he'll hit them all safely.
More about the rolling over one on the 3-0 count (and trying to appease Mr. Happy and Ms. Doe with the f'in Altuve reference).
Middle 6: HOU 2, MIL 2
-
Singleton with a monster shot tonight in CC.
Just a double short of the cycle
-
Singleton with a monster shot tonight in CC.
Too bad there wasn't something like a TwitVid of the shot over in the BusRide or something...
-
JD is right. Bud needs a third pitch of the slower variety or something that changes planes if he wants to have success regularly against lineups on the third go round. Otherwise, he's a reliever in waiting.
-
fudge
-
Who's getting up in the bully? This Brewer lineup is tough. There aren't any real easy outs.
-
No, thanks, didn't really need a run recap right now.
-
JD is right. Bud needs a third pitch of the slower variety or something that changes planes if he wants to have success regularly against lineups on the third go round. Otherwise, he's a reliever in waiting.
He flashes that curve every once in a while but it's not very good. I don't remember seeing a change but it seems like he was working on a cutter last year that dove to the plate. Not sure I'm remembering completely right though.
-

f rodriguez
-
Rodriguez finally up in the bully. That's a managerial miscue. Someone should have been up much earlier.
-

Yup...
-
f rodriguez
What'd Rodriguez ever do to you?!?
-
What'd Rodriguez ever do to you?!?
aren't you the funny one today.
-
What'd Rodriguez ever do to you?!?
That remains to be seen, but it may be a pre-emptive comment.
-

I seem to remember an offspeed pitch in progress last season, but I haven't seen it so far this season. Bud has the tools to be a reliever, and I think that is where he ought to be if this club had real other options for the rotation.
-
Woooo that was a dirty look from Ishikawa.
-

IIRC, the changeup was coming along sorta-okay-ish last season. Certainly ain't here this season...
-
one more to go bud, one more
-
Damn, damn, damn.
-
Get Bud out of there. he can't get through a lineup three times. That's a reliever, ladies and germs.
-

Lyles though 7. 6 Ks, 13 groundouts, 1 fly out and a caught stealing. Given up 2 hits, 2 BBs and 0 runs. Should be 4-0 after tonight.
-
Damn, damn, damn.
1-2 pitch, damnit Bud Brad and RedAss for leaving him in so damned long!!!
Edited to change my mind as to the primary culprits...
-
one more to go bud, one more
still one more to go...
-

I don't care what he does against subpar AAA bats. I remained unconvinced that he has a high ceiling. I haven't seen it, and I've been looking.
-
And Singleton with yet another homer. 4-4 tonight.
-
IIRC, the changeup was coming along sorta-okay-ish last season. Certainly ain't here this season...
Sorry, I was referring to Bud not Lyles. My bad...
-

He had a change he showed last year and the year before. I thought it looked pretty good at times last year.
-
Chuck: you're right. I saw the potential for a dandy changeup last season. He needs to trust it because if he wants to be a starter (and this club needs him to be successful), he needs it to equalize his heater and snake.
-
Come on, guys.
-
Thanks for playing, Carlos.
-
shitsticks
-
wow that threat ended as quickly as it started
-
Well shit. It's like I said earlier: get used to it. No situational hitting. Nothing. Bases loaded and nobody out down by five with your three, four and five up and we scratch out one measly run.
-

at least they got one.

#rootrootroot
-
Carlos is not boosting his trade value.
-
at least they got one.
Thanks to the almighty for small favors. Loe could have pitched out of it too and would have had JD hit his ball a little harder. The only reason that run scored is that Milwaukee traded a run for an out.

never understimate this team to not take something that is given.
-
never understimate this team to not take something that is given.
True dat.
-
CJ with a bloop single to plate the Piranha to narrow the margin to 8-4. Loe is gone.
-
Dang, that was a good call by the 1BU... BTW, 8-3 game and having your pitcher pinch run?!? Not sure how wise that is (and hope I have to eat my words on this one...).
-

Okay, who the hell ARE y'all talking about?!? Bud? Dude needs a change-up. Lyles? Dude was born in 10/1990...
-
Okay, who the hell ARE y'all talking about?!? Bud? Dude needs a change-up. Lyles? Dude was born in 10/1990...
We were talking about Bud, indeed. Lyles is young, but I just don't see a live arm. I see a guy who's going to have to have pinpoint command, and that is very hard to do consistently.
-
What was this manicuring the mound shit? Deal with it, Parra. A little home cooking.
-

Twenty-one. 2-1. Give the kid time.
-
Twenty-one. 2-1. Give the kid time.
But what does the radar gun say because it doesn't lie? Are you telling me that he's got the potential to be another Greg Maddux? I didn't see that type of command last season. I'm not going to go so far as to predict (and I'm pretty fucking accurate) that he's a AAAA pitcher, but command improvement can be made but it is real hard.
-
Kottoras is a bit leaky back there, ain't he? Both scored as wild pitches. What's the official scorer got against pitchers? he must be related to the catcher.
-
Slow down, Gomez... the ball's already gone.
-
The bullpen hasn't exactly helped preserve any momentum the last couple nights
-
i'm rather wishing i had not asked what peen meant. i can't look at that mug the same anymore.
-

Radar gun is saying 93 this season...
And Mayo added this: LINK (http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20120410&content_id=28336254&vkey=news_mlb&c_id=mlb&tcid=tw_article_28336254)
"The first time, I saw him in the South Atlantic League [in 2009]," the scout said. "He's settled in now. He's more mature on the mound than I've ever seen him. He can sink, he can cut. His breaking ball was average to plus. His mound presence and confidence, his ability to use his stuff, was the best I've seen him. On Friday, he was a little bit ahead of Shelby Miller."
There was also an article about some excellent improvement in his curve this year, but I can't seem to find it offhand...
That, and dudes 21. Twenty-one. Yes, 2-1!
-
The bullpen hasn't exactly helped preserve any momentum the last couple nights
Maybe so, but the seven spot that Bud allowed hasn't been overcome yet.
-
We were talking about Bud, indeed.
I remember watching him work extensively on the change in the spring of 2010. The pitch had that weird tumble that a splitter has. It really looked like a pitch that would be successful in time.
I would imagine that even at this level there is something lingering in many young power pitchers or guys who as kids were always power pitchers that makes them very hesitant to employ a change. Getting guys out with slow pitches is for pussies.

I hope that we have something, but if we do, it will be something markedly different than we witnessed last year.

wright

I tend to think baseball players are quite attractive, Axford makes me rethink that.

Last year. Twenty. 2-0. Youngest player in the minors. Rushed to the majors.

Maybe so, but my philosophy was you get the bastards out any way you can, and you don't look askance at an out pitch, particularly one that you desperately need to face a lineup a third time.
-
I tend to think baseball players are quite attractive, Axford makes me rethink that.
Axford is fugly.
-
these brewers are cocky assholes.

Axford is fugly.
Randy Johnson thinks he is quite attractive... Total aside, but I really wish Morgan'd've had to suffer by that ball going over his head...
-
Last year. Twenty. 2-0. Youngest player in the minors. Rushed to the majors.
I understand that. But to me he didn't look like a raw phenom who needed to be seasoned a bit. He looked heady enough to be in the show, but was just lacking some oomph. As for that 93, I'll have to see that for myself before I believe it.
-
Shitfuck. Matinee tomorrow.

Don't believe me, believe hearsay from Henry Sosa who was charting a recent game for OKC. LINK (http://www.crawfishboxes.com/2012/4/20/2962596/astros-minor-league-recap)
Lyles was up to 93 with most of his fastballs according to Henry Sosa who was charting the games.

Me?!? Nah, I have a face that is made for anonymous internet forums... Go get 'em tomorrow kids!
-
Who feels good with Happ going tomorrow? I sure don't. Weeks is hitting .800 with a home run. Hart is hitting .462. In fact, four of the guys he's going to face tomorrow have taken him out of the yard.

That's the best news I've received all day, although it has been a really shitty day.
