Honestly, where does he belong in this lineup?  Admittedly I'm showing my ignorance here, but isn't there something to batting him/JD/Lee 3-4-5?

While you could argue that he's a man without a good spot other than that he has to be in there, I think that on this team, he is a three. However, he's not your prototypical three, so he probably wouldn't hit there with many other clubs. He's still young, so his proper spot will be a challenge as he is a work in progress.

NOtice that Gamel isn't playing tonight, so Bud dotted Weeks. He had to do it. I'm not watching right now. Did HPU warn the benches after that?

The Piranha has some pop in his bat, but before you get all crazy about it, remember that he hit it off of Randy Wolf.

And Carlos put a charge in one the inning before, but couldn't put it out to left center...  Not sure how much weight your argument has in that regard...

He leads the team in slugging so cleanup wouldn't be ridiculous.  After JD, is only 33 points behind him but after that it is Shreefer 128 points behind him.

  The best lineup would be:

1) Mr. The Altuve
2) Mr. The Altuve
3) Mr. The Altuve
4) JD Martinez
5) Mr. The Altuve
6) Mr. The Altuve
7) Mr. The Altuve
8 ) Mr. The Altuve

Going to ammend it.  Altuve doesn't really have enough speed for the leadoff:

1) Shreefer
2) Mr. The Altuve
3) Mr. The Altuve
4) JD Martinez
5) Mr. The Altuve
6) Mr. The Altuve

Add Norris to the ever growing list of pitchers tied all time for 4 Ks in an inning.  With this catching duo I think an Astros pitcher will have a good shot at 5 this year

I don't think you can be a pissant if your talent exceeds a certain level. The guys that are pissants are the ones who don't seem like they should be beating you but are anyway. With Biggio you could clearly understand why he was beating you.

I don't think you can be a pissant if your talent exceeds a certain level. The guys that are pissants are the ones who don't seem like they should be beating you but are anyway. With Biggio you could clearly understand why he was beating you.

Am I understanding you correctly that fernando vina and david eckstein did not have talent that exceeded a certain level?

You have to be short to be a pissant. Hell, Vina was listed at 5 foot 9 inches, so he was either a liar or a bigger than average  pissant.

Fernando Vina was THE pissant. Shane Victorino has a lot of pissant in him too.

Singleton with a monster shot tonight in CC.   When he gets here will be beaten to death with the Killer Js, considering the entire lineup could be Js?  Jordan, Jed, JD, Jonathon, Johnson, JB, Jason, Jose, JA....

Speaking of J's, Jordan Lyles is dealing in OKC tonight.
There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese.

JD is right. Bud needs a third pitch of the slower variety or something that changes planes if he wants to have success regularly against lineups on the third go round. Otherwise, he's a reliever in waiting.

He flashes that curve every once in a while but it's not very good. I don't remember seeing a change but it seems like he was working on a cutter last year that dove to the plate. Not sure I'm remembering completely right though.

He flashes that curve every once in a while but it's not very good. I don't remember seeing a change but it seems like he was working on a cutter last year that dove to the plate. Not sure I'm remembering completely right though.

I seem to remember an offspeed pitch in progress last season, but I haven't seen it so far this season. Bud has the tools to be a reliever, and I think that is where he ought to be if this club had real other options for the rotation.

Lyles though 7.  6 Ks, 13 groundouts, 1 fly out and a caught stealing.  Given up 2 hits, 2 BBs and 0 runs.  Should be 4-0 after tonight.

Thanks to the almighty for small favors. Loe could have pitched out of it too and would have had JD hit his ball a little harder. The only reason that run scored is that Milwaukee traded a run for an out.

We were talking about Bud, indeed. Lyles is young, but I just don't see a live arm. I see a guy who's going to have to have pinpoint command, and that is very hard to do consistently.

But what does the radar gun say because it doesn't lie? Are you telling me that he's got the potential to be another Greg Maddux? I didn't see that type of command last season. I'm not going to go so far as to predict (and I'm pretty fucking accurate) that he's a AAAA pitcher, but command improvement can be made but it is real hard.

Kottoras is a bit leaky back there, ain't he? Both scored as wild pitches. What's the official scorer got against pitchers? he must be related to the catcher.

Radar gun is saying 93 this season...

And Mayo added this: LINK

"The first time, I saw him in the South Atlantic League [in 2009]," the scout said. "He's settled in now. He's more mature on the mound than I've ever seen him. He can sink, he can cut. His breaking ball was average to plus. His mound presence and confidence, his ability to use his stuff, was the best I've seen him. On Friday, he was a little bit ahead of Shelby Miller."

There was also an article about some excellent improvement in his curve this year, but I can't seem to find it offhand...

That, and dudes 21. Twenty-one. Yes, 2-1!

We were talking about Bud, indeed.

I remember watching him work extensively on the change in the spring of 2010. The pitch had that weird tumble that a splitter has. It really looked like a pitch that would be successful in time.

I would imagine that even at this level there is something lingering in many young power pitchers or guys who as kids were always power pitchers that makes them very hesitant to employ a change. Getting guys out with slow pitches is for pussies.

Twenty-one. Yes, 2-1!

I'd be impressed if he was Twenty, 20, 2-0.

On the off chance the Astros come back in this one, who is closing?

I hope that we have something, but if we do, it will be something markedly different than we witnessed last year.

I tend to think baseball players are quite attractive, Axford makes me rethink that.

Last year. Twenty. 2-0. Youngest player in the minors. Rushed to the majors.

Maybe so, but my philosophy was you get the bastards out any way you can, and you don't look askance at an out pitch, particularly one that you desperately need to face a lineup a third time.

Randy Johnson thinks he is quite attractive...  Total aside, but I really wish Morgan'd've had to suffer by that ball going over his head...

I understand that. But to me he didn't look like a raw phenom who needed to be seasoned a bit. He looked heady enough to be in the show, but was just lacking some oomph. As for that 93, I'll have to see that for myself before I believe it.

Don't believe me, believe hearsay from Henry Sosa who was charting a recent game for OKC. LINK

Lyles was up to 93 with most of his fastballs according to Henry Sosa who was charting the games.

Okay. I'll just have to see it myself before I get excited about it.

Who feels good with Happ going tomorrow? I sure don't. Weeks is hitting .800 with a home run. Hart is hitting .462. In fact, four of the guys he's going to face tomorrow have taken him out of the yard.

There are a few posts in this GZ thread that could use some sweeping.
