McCarthy is a relative unknown to the good guys. Loretta has a single in three trips, Twinkie 0-2 w/ a BB and a K, Lamb has a BB and a double, Bidge 0-1.
Roof closed today.
-
Lofton reached on an error off Lamb's glove, then tried to steal second. Bidge tagged him out and Lofton, sliding head first, did a face plant into his knee. Looks a little wobbly as he is helped off the field.
-
Young strikes out, Texieira hits a moon shot into the Astros bullpen, Diaz strikes out. 1-0 stRangers.
-
Did JD just describe McCarthy as a tall drink of water?
-
Pigpen high fly to RF, Loretta grounds up the middle, deflected by the P right to the 2B, Berkman draws a walk (McCarthy high in the zone with his FB), Lee fly to left.
-
Did JD just describe McCarthy as a tall drink of water?
Yes he did. McCarthy is 6' 7" and 200 lbs.
-
woody is giving up long balls left and right..
-
Fuck, Woody. You do realize these guys haven't won a series on the road all season, right?
-
woody is giving up long balls left and right..
I've already seen enough of Woody today.
-
I've already seen enough of Woody today.
That doesn't suprise me.
-
Jesus, is Chuck Merryweather permanently calling Astros games now?
We've had scrub-a-dub-dub ump crews for at least the last 2 series.
-
Q is owning kenny lofton
-
Q say, "Take dat, maign! Joo no steal on me 2 time!"
-
Nelson Cruz slaps a low liner past Lamb into the corner, leadoff double. Kinsler sac bunt, Cruz to third. Laird (infield in) jerks one off the top of the wall (a fan reached and missed it) for an RBI double. Laird almost caught leaning off second by Woody/Loretta. Vazquez plants one in the RF stands just over the reach of Scott. 4-0 Rangers. McCarthy K's. Lofton, with the bruised grill, walks. Pitching coach Dave Wallace strolls to the mound for a chat. Lofton nearly got picked off, then swiped second on the next pitch easily. Young reaches a 2-2 count, and Lofton tries to steal third. He had a good jump, but Q guns him down. (thanks, dumbass Lofton)
Good Guys trail 4-0
-
Good Guys trail 4-0
Good thing the "extra offense" lineup is in today.
-
Lamb with a high foul pop, Vazquez reaches over the short fence to grab it. The groundskeepers were ducking out of the way.
-
I think I like this kid.
-
PENCE!!! slams it over Lofton and it one-hops the wall just right of the hill, triple.
-
Luuuuke taps it to second, RBI grounder, 2 down, Astros on the board
-
Q takes out the ball boy down the RF line, then reaches a full count. Fouls a couple off, then flies to right near the line.
Q has been playing good ball. Seems like he hits it hard quite often.
4-1 Texas

So far he's been all anyone can ask for in a backup catcher.
-
Woody gets Young to fly to the track in front of the 373 sign
-
Teixeira line single to right
-
Get the bullpen up.
-
im almost ready for moehler
-
Diaz with a rope to left center, Tex to third
-
Cruz called strike three at the knees, 2 down.
-
Kinsler pops to Lamb, bullet dodged.
-
im almost ready for moehler
Nah, this is where Woody lives. He's got a few more innings in him.
-
Woody gets to swing the bat, and he goes down swinging
-
Biggio flies to right center, 2 down
-
Loretta rips a 3-1 FB into the LF corner, double.
-
Berkman watches a pair of looping curves and a high FB, 3-0 count, A FB at the knees for a strike, swing and a miss on a changeup, and swings at ball 4, a high outside FB that he pops to third, side retired.
-
Twinkie's just off all around at the plaste.
-
Apparently the book on Berkman is everything up. Lance isn't doing anything with high pitches so far this year.
-
For all those interested, the Astros Wives beat the Rangers Wives 12-7 in this morning's softball game.
-
Catcher Laird pops a bunt in front of Lamb, who tries to barehand it but misses, infield single.
-
Apparently the book on Berkman is everything up. Lance isn't doing anything with high pitches so far this year.
He is "a shell of [his] former self."
-
Vazquez walks. McCarthy sac bunt, 1 down, Laird to third, Vazquez to second.
-
Lofton, with the infield in, works a walk to load the bases.
-
this inning could get fugly.
-
Wow. Cat-like from the Puma.
-
Young takes a ball high, Wallace to the hill. White and Moehler warming up in the pen. Liner to Berkman's left, dives and snags it! 2 down.
-
Fuck you, Merryweather.
-
Teixeira up, Q to the mound to chat. FB at the letters for a strike. Change up floats outside and low, 1-1. Foul ball down the LF line, 1-2. curve in the dirt, blocked by Q, 2-2. FB right down the middle, swing and a miss. Side retired.
-
Well, that was certainly dramatic.
-
who'da thunk that Berkman would be better on defense than on offense?
-
Teixeira up, Q to the mound to chat. FB at the letters for a strike. Change up floats outside and low, 1-1. Foul ball down the LF line, 1-2. curve in the dirt, blocked by Q, 2-2. FB right down the middle, swing and a miss. Side retired.
Funny how sometimes, just a heater at the right time will own even a great hitter.
-
Lee leads off the bottom of the 4th, and flies to the track in left.
-
Lamb ground out to first. 2 down.
-
man, no offense.
-
PENCE!!! liner in the LC gap, easy double.
-
JD - "Hunter, we regret to inform you there is no higher league for you to go to."
-
Scott just got a freaking fast ball RIGHT down the middle on 1-1, and fouled it back.
Seriously, CRUSH MISTAKES! Don't fucking foul them off.
-
Luuuuke grounder to third, side retired.
-
Mrs. Ensberg has more pop than Morgan does. At least in fair territory.
-
Oops.
-
Woody still in there, Diaz slaps a belt-high outside FB into the RF stands, 5-1 Rangers.
-
Woody is done.
-
The "sideline reporter" just referred to Mike Lamb as a very athletic woman.
-
Rick White pitches to Cruz, pops it to Loretta near the 3B line, 1 down
-
Kinsler rolls one to the left of Biggio who slides and comes up ready to fire to first, but the ball continues on into RF.
Range? No.
-
Laird draws a walk. First and second, 1 out.
-
Vazquez works the count full (thanks Merryweather) and with the runners going slaps a liner past Loretta for an RBI single. Loretta was breaking to cover the bag. 6-1 Rangers.
-
Brownie suggests that Q do more of the Edmonsesque luring of runners by letting the ball trickle between his legs.
-
Vazquez gunned down by Q on a WP that didn't roll very far away. 2 down. McCarthy caught looking, side retired.
6-1 Rangers, bottom of the 5th coming up.
-
Q with a hard single up the middle that almost nailed the pitcher
-
White steps in to bunt. He failed. 1 down, as he bunted it foul with two strikes.
-
Biggio with a can-o-corn to CF, 2 down.
-
Man, some serious feeble swings by the good guys today.
-
Ugly offense today.
-
Loretta swings inside out and hits a fly to right, 3 down.
-
Berkman and Scott are anemic. got to pick up runs with two out hits. we have had chances to chip away but cannot get those runs in.
-
White in the top of the 6th
Lofton pops to Lamb, 1 down.
-
Young lines to Loretta, 2 down
-
Teixeira with a comebacker, 1-2-3 inning finally.
-
first bad game Woody has had in quite some time. to me, it looked like he did not use his CB enough after Tex hit one of them lopsided. also, Merryweather never opened the top of the strike zone for business.
-
Berkman, first pitch swinging, taps a two-hopper to 2B. Boo. 1 down.
Punch and Judy Lance.
-
Lee draws a walk.
-
Lamb, with a weak swing, taps to 2B, forces Lee at second. FC. 2 down.
-
Well, I tried to listen to the ball game on the way home from church, but all I got was some dirty old man (Milo) fawning over some woman with beautiful eyes (Yolanda someone) and griping that she had not been in the booth before that.
It was awful. Just awful.
-
PENCE!!! works the count full, then slaps a change down the LF line...foul. Hits a high outside FB down the RF line...foul. Finally pops up to third. Side retired.
-
changeups are killing the Astros. got Lamb and Pence.
-

He likes the enchiladas and green beans.

I'm done. The bats are pathetic today.

Has the pitching been any better?

Woody had a bad game.

Thank you. I thought it was a joke at first, and spent about a minute laughing really hard. I can't believe the public was subjected to that.

And I thought that it was just me thinking that.
-
You know, some day this war's gonna end....
-
The baseball gods are punishing the Astros for having the roof closed on a beautiful day for baseball. Seriously, why the hell is it closed?
-

I actually turned it off. Completely agree.

MLB blackout rules apply to god.
-
Its just horseshit that we can't beat this club in a home series. Its not the end of the world or anything, but it is disappointing.
-
And I thought that it was just me thinking that.
Don't dig the baritones, do y'all?
Heh.
-

with Albers, Wandy and Woody? you predicted 2 of 3 or better? not i.
if you add in, that only 2 guys are hitting, then maybe winning one was predictable.
-
Thank you. I thought it was a joke at first, and spent about a minute laughing really hard. I can't believe the public was subjected to that.
that song is more or less a joke-- sounds like sesame street for adults. it has always made me laugh to hear operatic types try to sing it. america the beautiful and battle hymn of the republic are far superior songs.
-

no, it is not a joke.
-

No. I predicted that we'd lose 2 out of 3. But I was hoping... At the beginning of the month, I predicted that Woody would win 2 in May. Now I'm not so sure.
-

Heh.
somebody needs to turn that guy's modulation button off.
-

Albers was a loss in my book before the game even started. He is completely jacked right now.
Woody and Wandy = toss ups, so winning 2 out of 3 this series was a pipe dream, the way I saw it.
I switched to Red Wings vs. Ducks after the homer to make it 6-1.
-

he has pitched well enough to win several. not today.
i do not rememer seeing your prediction.
-
no, it is not a joke.
you're right, joke is the wrong word. but it's just not that good of a song.
-
Sure will be glad when Jennings is back. Albers was awful friday night.
-

speak for yourself. i like it. not that version, though.
-

Can't disagree with that. Especially when he first started out.

we need Jennings back strong. probably need someone else, too, but if Wandy keeps improving....
who is winning the hockey game?
-

I agree. I was hoping that he was going to win more than 2. He deserves a few more wins. Yes, some techno guy on the site can probably find my prediction in a flash.

so that's the rotation right now: oswalt, sampson, two toss ups, and an automatic loss. it's pretty great that this team is at .500 right now, especially considering berkman's struggles.
-
I have a question about how long Pence is currently tied to the Astros. On Rotoworld, it says he makes near the mlb minimum from '07-'09 and is arbitration eligible '10-'12. Does that mean we have until 2012 to offer him a multi-year contract or can he leave in 2010?
-

agreed. i wonder when/if Berkman comes out of it. as Mark said earlier, they are pounding him with high FBs.
-

who is winning the hockey game?
Wandy's been looking okay, especially for a no. 5. Something's working with him.

no, he'll be retired and in the HOF by then.
-

he ain't the 5. that's Sampson. we need another pitcher soon.
-
no, he'll be retired and in the HOF by then.
Nice smartass answer. Not the answer to my son's question, though.
-
Bad pitching is one thing, but the offense didn't exactly come out with guns blazing today either.
-
Red Wings lead 1-0 with 6:50 left in the first.
-
Moehler coming in to "get some work," as Bill Brown says, in the 8th inning of a blowout game where the starter was knocked out with one out in the 5th.
I still don't get the purpose of Moehler on this team.
-

Whoops, 2nd, not first.

write Garner a letter. he likes 12 pitchers.
he is a middle inning and spot starter pitcher. he could be a 5th starter.
Albers, Wandy, Woody are all shaky. Jennings' health is an issue. Moehler is good insurance for any of them. there is nothing in RR.
-
Nice smartass answer. Not the answer to my son's question, though.
tell him it is May in his rookie season. plenty of time to look that up.
-
there is nothing in RR.
Is that true? What's the rotation down there? Anyone with any real ML potential?
-

Gutierrez is a prospect. nothing else here.

Agree. He's playing insurance right now, but that's okay. I personally prefer 11 pitchers or 2 bullpen lefties on a 12 man staff. Coach, how's the lefty reliever Randolph looking?
-

he got blasted on the road this week. that was his first not dominating inning.
Reinke has had some good outings as a starter.
Barzilla, McLemore and Gothreaux also have started.
-

Gutierrez is a prospect. nothing else here.
Hmm...so other than Oswalt and Pence, who are we supposed to give the Yankees for ARod?
-

insurance for what? starter knocked out with no outs in the 5th. moehler hasnt pitched in 10 days. borkowski backed up albers on friday. and they go with white.
-
Hmm...so other than Oswalt and Pence, who are we supposed to give the Yankees for ARod?
man, that's a puzzler. i'd say throw in Lee, Berkman and Biggio (so he can go into the Hall as a Yankee).
-

i can't understand it for you.

End 2nd, still 1-0 Wings.

I thought the Astros were going to trade for Clemens.
-

Oooooh. I hadn't thought about that. That would be awesome. Biggio in the Hall with NY on his cap. Pull the trigger now.
-
I thought the Astros were going to trade for Clemens.
That was from Boston, I think. I hope Clemens' arm snaps clean off his fucking body in his next minor league start.
I can quite honestly say I am not the least bit interested in seeing him as an Astro (player) again.
No thanks.
-

they ALL want to go in as Yankees. every damn one of 'em.

i guess this means we won't be seeing Koby in the bigs in Sept.?
-
they ALL want to go in as Yankees. every damn one of 'em.
We joke, but Lance actually does. Disgusting.
For someone who claims to be 100% Texan all the time, his love for the Yankees makes me question Lance. Often.
-
i guess this means we won't be seeing Koby in the bigs in Sept.?
Trade him to Boston so he could face his dad as a hitter. ESPN would lose their fucking minds.
-
I am glad Moehler got a chance to throw a little BP today.
-
i guess this means we won't be seeing Koby in the bigs in Sept.?
Not for the Astros, no.
-
I am glad Moehler got a chance to throw a little BP today.
That's what its looking like.
-
So, this is fun.
We get to learn one of two things:
1) Which of us stick around thru a 14-1 stomping, at home, to the fucking Rangers or
2) Which of us would rather watch us get anihilated rather than go work in the yard or spend time with in-laws
-
JD - "Underpants"
Its official.
ETA - Now its "Captain Underpants"

I blew it by getting up early and spending the morning cleaning the deck so that I'd have the afternoon free to watch the Astros. I definitely should have slept in and cleaned the deck in the afternoon.
-
there is nothing in RR.
The latter part of this decade is not going to be pretty.
-
The latter part of this decade is not going to be pretty.
Its whats in AA and single A that matters... AAA is where most of the insurance policies reside.
-
I'm not sure what I hate more; losing to the abortion that is the Texas Rangers or losing 14-1...to the abortion that is the Texas Rangers.
-
Oooooh. I hadn't thought about that. That would be awesome. Biggio in the Hall with NY on his cap. Pull the trigger now.
How much you gotta pay the mason to alter the statue? And what would George* DO with the statue? I'm not sure Craig's worthy of their monument area, even if he's FROM the tri-state area.
*Steinbrenner, not Gostanza

Maybe the Tito's is altering my comprehension skilss down a tad (in short, lowering the bar), but that's the funniest f'ing thing I've read here in a while.....mainly because it's so GD true!
