Fallball/Winterball Update

Posted on October 15, 2008 by Duman in From the Bus Stop

Only those in Arizona call it Fall ball.  Everywhere else calls it Winterball.  I don’ t know why?  I know it is fall now and all the leagues are playing now (except Puerto Rico who starts Nov. 6th).  So let’s reward those who can read the calendar and start with a brief recap of how Astros connected players are doing in Arizona first.

It hasn’t been a great fall for the Scorpions so far.  Brian Bogusevic is rehabbing a tweaked hammy and has only one at bat.  The good news is, he got a hit in that one at bat.  Drew Sutton continues to show he knows how to handle the bat.  He is hitting .545 in 3 games (11 AB).  He has two doubles.  Chris Johnson is hitting .333 through 5 games (21 AB).  He is tied for the team lead with 5 RBI.  Mark Ori, has appeared on only one game going 1 for 4.

On the mound in the AFL, Bud Norris has given up 1 earned run in 3 1/3 innings.  He has only K’d 1 batter so far.  Brad James had a rough first outing that will take some time for his stats to recover from (1 2/3 innings, 3 ER).  His second outing was better (1 1/3 IP, 2 hits, no runs, 1 K).  Chris Blazak has only appeared in one game.  He gave up 2 runs in 2 innings.  Sergio Perez has given up 1 run in his only outing (2 IP).

Jumping to Hawaii, Jason Castro is drawing a fair amount of attention with his bat down there.  His .361 BA is tied for 3rd best in the league.  He has 6 walks and 6 K’s in 36 AB.  Jordan Parraz is struggling.  He is batting .167 and has 10 K’s in 30 PA.  Chris Hicks has had mixed results.  Through 6 outings (7 IP) he has an ERA of 7.71.  He does have 7 K’s but has walked 6 and allowed 6 hits.

As play in the Carribean begins, here are the Astros affiliated players on rosters in the Dominican and Venezuela. Some of the players, especially those who played in Round Rock, are likely to be free agents but for now, their affiliation is listed as Houston. Thanks to Farmstro for his help in scanning the rosters for the info.
