Cartwright Stays Hot for Gville, Arguello Gets Win #10 for Salem

Posted on August 19, 2008 by Duman in From the Bus Stop

Tri Cities is in the All Star Break getting ready for the big game tonight at The Joe.

Let’s deal with the winners first:

Salem’s Douglass Arguello got his 10th win of the season inducing 17 ground ball outs in the Av’s 6-3 victory.

“If he’s not the best pitcher in the league, he’s in the top three or four,” Avalanche manager Jim Pankovits said. “He’s unbelievably consistent. When he’s in the game, the fielders know they’re going to get some action.”

Mark Ori produced his league leading 87th RBI and Jhon Florentino flashed the leather at 3rd and then showed off his arm. He also produced at the plate going 2 for 5 with a triple.

“We’ve been working with him to concentrate more on hitting to the middle of the field, and to hit better pitches, be more selective,” said player-coach Osvaldo Fernando. “He’s a smart kid.”

Greeneville packed the bats with hits in them for their journey to Pulaski. They whooped up on the Mariners 14-7. Albert Cartwright continued his hot streaking going 3 for 5 with his 3rd homer of the month. Nathan Metroka went 4 for 5 finishing a homer short of the cycle. Ross Seaton reached his pitch count 5 batters into the 2nd with out getting anyone out.
Now for the non-winners (LOSERS!)

Round Rock got into an early who as the Austin paper reports has become a trend:

Round Rock (59-70) has allowed 95 runs in the first inning this year, its most in any inning. For the first three games of the four-game set with Nashville, Express starters have a 39.00 ERA and opponents are hitting .667 in the first inning.

“I hope that doesn’t become a long trend,” Express manager Dave Clark said. “When you get down like that, it’s hard to keep coming back. We still had 8.5 innings to get back in it, but we just didn’t get much done.”

8-2 was the final damage tally.

Corpus Christi’s slide continues. Chance Douglas looked better but not good enough in the Hooks 5-2 loss. One more loss, and the Hooks will have the most losses in franchise history.

Lexington isn’t in a slide, they are in a free fall. They were swept by Augusta over the last four games. All the runs were scored in the first inning in the Legends 5-1 loss. How bad was the series with Augusta?

Augusta finished off a four-game sweep in which it outscored Lexington 37-5 and outhit the Legends 52-15.
