RR, CC Win, Salem Swept, Lex loses late, & Greeneville thumped 22-3

Posted on August 14, 2007 by Duman in Bus Ride Archive

Round Rock went to extra innings last night to defeat New Orleans 6-4. Beau Torbert, who had been hitless in his last 9 at bats got a pinch hit two run double in the 11th. Juan Gutierrez have up 4 runs in 6 innings. He surrendered two home runs bringing his total to 6 in three August starts and raising his August ERA to 6.06.

Corpus Christi got 7 strong innings from Josh Muecke to beat Springfield 6-1. Tommy Manzella went 4 for 5 and Michael Johnson went 3 for 3 with 3 RBI. Mueke also got an RBI on a bases loaded walk.

Salem got swept in a double header by Kinston Early trouble doomed Salem pitchers. Casey Hudspeth gave up two homers, two doubles, and two singles in a six run 2nd in game one. In game two, Rory Shortell gave up 3 runs in the first.

Lexington lost 3-1 on a dropped ball on a tag at home in the 8th and a two run ninth inning homer. Corey Bass pitched 6 shut out innings in his 4th start. Bass made 24 appearances out of the pen and had a 6.31 ERA. In his 4 starts, his ERA is 2.50. He had been a starter his previous two years in Greeneville and appears to be more comfortable and effective in that role. Sapp left the game in the 6th with a “spinal ache” that does not appear to be serious.

Tri Cities is off but the front office is at work. Looks like they may be announcing they will host the 2008 All Star game today.

Greeneville was awful last night. Elizabethton thumped them 22-3. Here is my recap & MILB’s. One interesting stat note. Brett Robinson (AKA Dewey’s boy) has appeared in 18 games, pitching 25 1/3 innings out of the pen. The G-stros primary closer has only walked one batter in those outings. In his 5 August outings, he is 1-0 with 2 saves and an 1.08 ERA. He doesn’t blow people away but he makes them pound it in the ground he gets two ground ball outs for every one air out on the season
