Greeneville split a double header with the Bristol White Sox last night. Greeneville won the first game behind five strong innings from Eduin Ciriaco. The 21 year old lefty from the Dominican Republic dropped his season ERA to 2.01 and earned his first win of the season in his first start of the season. Greeneville’s 4 hits were all doubles. The night cap was won by Bristol 3-2 in 9 innings of what was scheduled to be 7. Andy Launier had his 7 game hitting streak come to an end when reached on an error as a pinch hitter in the 5th inning
Tri Cities also split a double dip. The won the first 4-2 behind a 3 hit game from Charles Gamble and a good start from Icenogle. The night cap went to Jamestown 0-3.

In Salem, Chris Johnson’s infield single in the bottom of the 9th gave the Avs a 7-6 win. Orlando Rosales had 3 hits including two doubles. One of the doubles was ended in a base running adventure in the 9th:

Orlando Rosales, who had an RBI single in the first inning and a two-run double in the fifth, drove a ball deep to right. Einertson wheeled around the bases and was a step away from third when manager Jim Pankovits put up the stop sign. The speedy Rosales was already midway between second and third when the signal went up. Rosales stumbled to a stop but was caught in a rundown for the second out of the inning.
Pankovits said he decided not to send Einertson to the plate because right fielder Brad Corley had made a great play to get to the ball and he thought that second baseman Tony Mansolino, a converted third baseman, had a good arm and might have thrown Einertson out. Also, Pankovits said, the middle of the Avalanche’s lineup — Mark Ori, Johnson and Pat Osborn — were due up.
Corpus Christi won in 10 over Arkansas 7-6. Todd Self singled and stole second before Sadler’s single brought him home as the winning run. J. R. Towles, who was named offensive player of the month for the hooks, hit a grand slam. Towles edged Edwin Maysonet for the honor, despite Maysonet’s recent offensive outburst. He has hit over .400 for the last two months and lead the team with a .462 average in July.

“Early in the season, I was swinging at breaking balls and bad pitches and wasn’t getting pitches to hit. And it’s knowing the situations in the game, too. Clarkie and (hitting coach John Tamargo Jr.) have helped me a lot and I’ve been doing everything they told me to and it’s been working.”

Before the game, the Hooks’ roster vacancy was filled with the signing of free-agent first baseman Michael Johnson. He had been in the San Diego system, mostly with AA San Antonio, where in 64 games, he hit .250 with 12 home runs and 35 RBI.
