Astros vs. Cards 3-5-07
« on: March 05, 2007, 03:11:54 pm »
Anyone following the game that can tell me the inning and score?  Maybe even a small synopsis of the pitching and hitting for the Stros?  Thanks.

Pence seems to be a good deal faster than I realized. Brett and Dave go on about his long stride covering ground quickly. He's legged out a few infield hits this spring already.

Bozied singles.

Mike Rodriguez bounces out to first baseman, who flips to Jimenez for the out.

Pence hits a TOWERING double off the wall, JDJO's pants get tighter.

Jason Lane robbed of an RBI by a diving Schumaker. Side retired.

When you watch him run you don't think he's going that fast until you realize how much ground he's covered.  Long strides but his first couple of steps are not that fast. He's a pretty fast runner once he's underway.  At least that was my impression of him from watching in person.

Thanks for the description. It seems that with a bit more coaching, perhaps he could improve his technique to start more quickly.

I am looking forward to one day watching him play in person.

Anyone have an eyewitness perspective on his CF play?

Yep, you would think that he's got to be making quite an impresssion with the club early on...same for Lane.  I'm not sure if he got any hits today, but from the little I heard he hit the ball hard in at least two ABs.  He's been on fire to start out the spring training schedule.

Thanks. I imagine we'll know a lot more of the course of his first few months at Round Rock. Keep us non-Austinites updated.
