somebody gets it(article on NL catchers)

The Link

2. Astros

Brad Ausmus, Eric Munson

Pitchers love Ausmus because of his vast knowledge of hitters and his willingness to let pitchers run their own games. Munson's power will help him as he competes with Humberto Quintero and Hector Gimenez.

Now I'm not sure i'd agree with the munson part but it's nice to see someone other than budgirl, this site and the team giving brad ausmus the credit he deserves.

Added to that, Ausmus is also willing to call every pitch, if that's what makes the pitcher comfortable.

My bet is on Munson going to RR. I've always liked Ausmus. Not the best wing down to second, he calls a great game and is a leader. The Astros have won with him. Nuff said.

I think that can be accomplished just as well from the bench. Seriously, we can't have this guy catching more than 100 games for us this year. The worst everyday offensive player in the modern age of the National League cannot be in the lineup everyday - he just can't.

On the plus side, he does have beautiful eyes.

We? No, we definitely can't.  But, the Astros can, I've seen them do it.

The addition of Lee and what I think will be a strong year from Scott, plus a healthy Berkman make any offense at C and SS COMPLETLY icing.

And I have to disagree about the eyes I think Brad's ass is his strength.

Over the past three seasons, who has the higher OPS (since you're so modern and we're so antiquated):

Brad Ausmus or Yadier Molina?

Also, while were at it, and just sticking to everyday players, tell me how he is worse than:

Neifi Perez
Jack Wilson
Rey Ordonez
Alex Gonzalez...

just for starters.
I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing AstroTurf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, torture of Bud Selig.

Who are you asking, the original poster or me?  You do realize I was agreeing that the post is full of crap, right?

Uh no it can't.   The other catchers don't have the vast knowledge of hitters ausmus does, or how to guide a young pitcher through a game.    And look who was third, Yadier Molina, a young catcher in the same mold as Ausmus.

And your worst offensive player in the modern era hit one of the biggest homeruns in franchise history to help the astros get to the 2005 World Series.

This statement proves without a doubt that you don't know crap about the history of the game. Enlighten yourself:

I'll even narrow it down to OPS of NL catchers with over 2,000 career at bats from 1900 thru 2006. That's 106 years worth of proof, just in the catcher position.

O Miller .557
R Dooin .566
F Bowerman .589
W Schmidt .596
F Kendall .599
G Gibson .603
F Snyder .604
B Benedict .619
J Archer .624
K Manwaring .627
L McLean .632
A Spohrer .633
M Matheny .637
I Wingo .647
J Grote .650
C McCullough .651
C Dalrymple .653
R Hundley .654
B Ausmus .655

Of the list above, Manwaring and Hundley each have a single gold glove (since 1957) to their credit, Matheny has four, and Ausmus has three.

The defense (no pun) rests.
