@@WARNING@@ this post is unabashedly biased...I am Hunter's mother and do read Astro's blogs and forums. I have never posted anything before, however I could not resist responding to this "My Space" debacle. Hunter is just the young man Hudson Hawk described. He loves baseball, video games, his brother and family, working out and his friends. He does not smoke and rarely drinks. The pictures on My Space with cigars and alcohol are from the celebration after winning the Texas League Championship and were given to the team by the Hooks. The other ones were from the celebration from winning in the Rising Star Showcase.
A "friend" of Hunter's had his My Space password and thought it would be funny to put that he was Hindu on his site. Hunter was not aware of it until it was brought to his attention. That prompted his making the site private and adding a statement to his friends that he is a Christian, not a Hindu, with no disrespect to the Hindu religion or people.
In Arizona, Hunter had played 11 days in a row, had just won in the Rising Stars Showcase game and had a day off the next day. Hunter was one of the last players to leave the field after the game because he stayed to talk to some young children about not smoking. His agent took him out to dinner and dancing to celebrate. Everyone he was with did not think he was drunk when he left to drive back to his apartment. He went a different way home and was on his cell phone when he was stopped in Scottsdale. It is of public record that his blood alcohol level came back under the legal limit. He is VERY sorry for what he has done and cares very deeply about the Astros and the Astro fans. He is not allowed to comment about the incident until the case is closed. I am probably speaking out of turn, however there are times a mother has to be a mother!
This is a wide eyed 23 year old young man that is learning that his actions impact many people and are always under scrutiny. He has done a lot of growing up this past year.
I will shut up now and thank you for indulging a mother's rant.
Gail
