.....but maybe not here.  ESPN announcing that he is officially returning for 2007 and that it's down to the Yanks and Astros.

What I don't get this time is: surely, we'd pay more than the Yankees to get him, right?  Plus his family is here.  So.....is this all just the Hendricks getting the Astros to outbid no one or do I actually have to get a party together here with some pitchforks and blowtorches to go out to ol' Andypants' house?

I have to wonder if the Yankees know anything on this already, since they're throwing bucketloads of cash at Ted Lilly. Crazy.

I hope Andy comes back to Houston.

Negotiations between Lilly and the Yankees are progressing. Lilly told Cashman that he'd play for the Yankees for 4 yrs/ $40 million, and Cashman has been authorized to make the deal. Now he's mulling it over.

I imagine Pettitte negotiations are playing into this quite a bit. My hunch is that we'll know Pettitte's plans by the end of the meetings.

 Oops. Cubs sign Lilly. For four years, $40 million. Not too shabby for a pitcher with one more victory than losses in his career.

It should be an interesting night in Deer Park. Hopefully Steinbrenner will piss off Andy again.

$12mil in a no-income-tax state like Texas is roughly the same at $15mil in New York, right?  Plus, Andy would avoid needing an expensive apartment and all those costly trips back and forth, just in case he is reading this...

He might get some of that fabled* NY endorsement money.  Do they have HEB's in New York?

From local reports, The Puerto Rican Whore is getting none of it.  Perhaps not surprising when you play for the Mets, not the Yanks, have a shit first season and then next year shit all over yourself in the at-bat that ends the play-offs for your team.

I did the numbers a while back, and IIRC, $12M in Texas would roughly equal $13M in NYC.

The problem may not be so much the Mets vs. the Yankees, but the fact that Beltran has no personality.

Truth be told, Jeter gets a ton of ads, A-Rod had a couple, Joe Torre and Willie Randolph have some ads (in particular for Subway), and I think I saw something with Pedro, but that's about it.  The fact that you play baseball in New York does not result in big advertisement dollars.
