No biggie.  Just wanted you to know it is confirmed by other sources.  Although I would have loved for the Astros to sign him, I am glad he will not be going to the Cards.

I have no idea why the astros did not make a run for him (unless he just wasn't interested).  In this climate 3/ 47 for that guy seems like a steal.  Call it 3/47 and we could buy him a ranch in between lee and berkman's.

I like that idea a whole lot more than 15 million for Pettitte.

How do you know the Astros didn't make a run for him? Reports I saw said all things being equal, he'd wanted to stay on the West Coast. 3/47 may not have gotten him here.

I don't know that (thus the parenthetical unless he wasn't interested). Like I said- they could throw in a ranch on top of the 3/47, plus no state income tax- duh.  Seriously though, I hadn't heard the astros mentioned- I would have loved to have him, and the price seems exceedingly reasonable in this climate.  You could very well be right- he might have just wanted to be a left coast guy.  I acknowledged that.  I never heard the blood n mud mentioned though, that's all.

Don't you understand that any player in baseball who signs with or is traded to another team could have been obtained by the Astros had they just made a similar offer?

again- I acknowledged that in the parenthetical of the original and demonstrated how by buying a measly 80 acre spread and calling it a "ranch" the astros could have trumped the dojers offer.

The reports were pretty clear that Schmidt wasn't interested in non-west coast teams. The frontrunners were always Seattle, his home town, and the Dodgers, where he has a good relationship with trainer Stan Conte (it's amazing to me that a professional sports team will employ him, no matter how good of a trainer he may be).

And then the Cardinals "emerged" as frontrunners on the day he signed with the Dodgers.
"Holy shit, Mozart. Get me off this fucking thing."

Supposedly, the Dodgers are looking to trade Penny for a bat.  Think there is any interest in MoBerg there?
