Same record and Oswalt had a better ERA. Carpenter tanked at the end of the season while Oswalt was terrific. Oswalt gave up fewer unearned runs. Oswalt played in more of a hitters park. What criteria are the voters using here? Trevor Hoffman? He threw 60 innings and blew 5 saves.

To me the difference among all the pitchers was Oswalt's September stretch run performance. In a season where there is no clear cut winner, nor even a debate among hands-down deserving candidates, in my mind the performance under pennant race pressure jumps up.

I take great pride in the fact that the Astros had a part in fucking up Carpenter's bid.  He had all but locked it up prior to that last series against the Good Guys...and of course prior to Mike-fuck'n-Cameron's double down the right field line.  It was at that moment that I actaully thought..."They can do this".

Trevor Hoffman???  WTF???  63 innings. WOW.  Should not be a canidate for this award.  Nothing against him or his pitching, but that is lame.  Check 2004, when DQ won his 7th.  Check Lidge's numbers and tell me how they compare.  Nevermind, I'll do it for you:

You're ignoring the McCarver factor.  After all the drooling in the broadcast booth during the playoffs, you would have thought the CoArds were an all-time all-star team.  Let's see ... Tim never played for Houston, did he?

Towers says. ?We were looking for a young third baseman we could control and they just weren't out there. We've had a pretty good idea how this free-agent market is going to be, and it's soft for third basemen.
