Weird. Last year, the World Series featured a team that hadn't won a pennant in 46 years and another team who hadn't won a pennant EVER (in 45 years of trying).
THIS year, however, all 8 teams in the postseason have won at least one pennant in the last 22 years, with Detroit being the "oldest."
Also, I thought this was kind of interesting: the World Series Champs from 1981, 1982, 1984, 1986, 1987, 1988, and 1989 are all participating in this year's playoffs (6 different teams!). It's even weirder when you realize that only ONE of those teams has bothered winning a WS since (Twins in '91).
The Yankees didn't win a single WS in the 80s, but won in 96, 98, 99, and 00; and of course the Padres have never won one, but played in two, both against teams that are competing this year (Tigers and Yankees).
The Dodgers have faced the Twins, Yankees, and A's in a World Series. In fact, the Dodgers have played in 4 World Series since 1960, and have faced one of the 4 2006 AL participants in every one of those.
The Yankees have faced all 4 NL participants at least once in the World Series already.
The Cardinals have faced all 4 AL participants at least once in the World Series already.
The A's have faced everyone but the Padres in a World Series already.
