Does Anyone Else...
« on: September 29, 2006, 11:56:32 am »
Kind of have a weird feeling about tonight?

I don't know, it's hard to place.  Just feels like ten-straight-wins is an awful lot, no matter who is pitching for us tonight.  Plus it's the Braves and a starter we've never faced.

We know Rocket hadn't been very good on 3 days rest before; how has he been on full rest AFTER starting on 3 days rest before?

I just know they'd better win the next two, b/c if they have to face Smoltz with the playoffs on the line, they're in a world of shit.

Tomorrow is the game that really freaks me out, but I'll be good and take 'em one at a time.

I am more concerned about the rookie southpaw than Rocket.

Yeah, the feeling I had in Pitt of KNOWING we'd sweep...it's been replaced.  Not that I KNOW we're going to lose, I just feel like "whoa, wait a second here, hoss.  It's the fucking Braves.  Satan Weiss doesn't still play there, does he?"

I've had a weird feeling for over a week now.  I'm trying to just enjoy the ride.

Only because we're seeing a rookie that we haven't faced before.  Normally that would mean bad news.  However, the way the freight train is rolling, I think we got a shot.  The ATL will only have 16k fans there and half will be 'Stros fans.

Not trying to piss of the BBGs, but fuck the ATL.

That's the beauty of playing the Braves.  Every time it's something new.  We get to ask the musical question "what new outrage is this?!".

Lefty means Lamb and Huff on the bench.

Rookie means we probably won't get shit off him until the second or third time through.

We NEED six or seven zeroes from the Rocket... and some serious positive mojo, which we seem to have in spades lately (let's hope it's not all used up)

We've got this in the bag.  Greg Lucas will be wearing Taylor Bucholz's dominatrix outfit tonight, including a dog collar.  This kind of thing really spooks the Braves.

That wouldn't spook just the Braves.

I was worried about a let down in PIT, worried about fatigue after the extra innings, worried about going to Philly, worried all season.  Now I feel strangely tranquil, and even that worries me.  I'd be worried if I wasn't worried, and I'm not, so I am.

I know that Lane got a hit yesterday.  And I know that Huff's numbers aren't very good against left-handed hitters.  But I still have no confidence in Lane and I would much rather see Huff start than Lane.

Lane's just in a slump.  He's due to break out of it any day now.

Yeah, Lane as stated here thousands of times, has a swing that is either right on or right grotty.  I'd much rather see that once a game and he's been alright off the bench lately.

Hasn't Lane been hitting lefties well since he rejoined the big club? Am I delusional in that belief?

I can't tell anything from season splits (.794 vs LHP, .682 vs. RHP) regarding just the last month, but anecdotally I feel confident in his recent ability to get good hacks against a lefty since he came back up.

You could've posted the same thing at any point during this season.  I don't think a season long suckfest is a "slump".

Yeah, me too. The past 9 days is what hope is all about. It has been way beyond expectations. FWIW, if I were Hindu or Buddist, I'd say that the karmic balance is in the Astros favor when it comes to the Braves. However, I checked the rosters and there isn't anyone named karma on either team.

I also have a bad feeling about this series.

The Braves just have too many good hitters:  Jones, Jones, McCann, Francouer, LaRoche, Giles, Renteria.

They can clearly outslug the Astros, so Clemens and Pettite and TBA are going to have to shut them down.
Boom!

Amen Mister Jim.
Postseason baseball for the Astros usually means a visit to Atlanta, it wouldn't be proper if the Astros didn't sweep by for a quick hello to old friends.

Unlike the jaded Brave fan who doesn't pay attention till the ted is hosting an AL team, I love a pennant race. As gut-wrenching as it is, watching this insane final sprint from behind is incredible. I am so proud of the Astros and love the heart that Garner on down have shown. We get to enjoy three games that matter against an old rival that's playing for pride.

The Astros are going to fight like hell to win each game. That's enough for me. And fuck that poor little left-handed rookie. We've never seen him, but he's never had to stand in front of a train with this kind of momentum before. Maybe he'll notice the bits of brain and feather plastered to the front of the train, give him something to ponder as it gets closer. Should be fun.
