Mike Lamb's defense
« on: September 29, 2006, 11:30:04 am »
Lamb deserves a little pat on the ass for the phenomenal play he made on Wednesday night.  Just watched the replay of the barehanded grab. Helluva play for anybody.
Lighten up, Francis.

He needed to.  Helps make up for the easy ones he's clanked the last few games.
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

The ones he misplayed were balls hit right at him. He came up on one too quickly and the other he wanted no part of.  Diving out of the way and waving at it as it went by.  Dont blame him, could have taken his head off.  But those misplays were due to lack of fundamentals.  The barehand on the roller was an athletic play.  If you're a major leaguer, seems to me you're a superior athlete.  Generally.  The fundamentals of playing 3d are Lamb's problem.

While he is often times a butcher at 3rd, he has played a very adequate first base this season.   He has gotten a lot better at scooping throws and is at worst an average first basemen in the field.

With that being said, why doesn?t Garner play him at 1st, Huff at 3rd and Berkman in RF when those 3 are all in the lineup together?
There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese.

Berkman's gimpy leg/back.

The barehand grab was excellent.  And just for comparison purposes, Rolen made a terrible play last night that resulted in a bunch of runs early.
Boom!

on Berkman's leg.   Has it gotten worse as the season has progressed?   He played RF earlier in the season.  Also, he seems to be running the bases fine.   He has been utilizing his speed game as of late.   Is Gar just worried that Berkman will get hurt out in RF?

Berkman is a lot better in RF than is Huff.   Huff is much better at 3rd than Lamb.  And Lamb has held his own at 1st this year.

Dammit man, the good guys are on a 9 game winning streak.  Don't mess with the chemistry.

Are you nuts?  The Astros are on a winning streak, something has to be wrong.  We've got to fuck with the lineup and pronto!

Hey, if Gar pulled the right levers, they'd have won nine games over that winning streak instead of just nine games.

Phil has told me no such thing in my daily phone calls with him. So I can't tell you what his logic is.

But of course when the Astros are playing a Lefty, ahem tonight, all bets are off.  The hat is shaken and names are drawn.

With 2.5 hours to game-time, and 1.5 hours until the line-ups are posted, I'll give it a go in case Gar is reading, looking for inspiration:

CF  Taveras
3B  Ensberg
1B  Berkman
LF  Scott
RF  Lane
2B  Biggio
SS  Everett
C   Ausmus
P   Clemens

You are correct, Limey.  Just heard it on 790.

Also said Saturday starter is still TBA.  Had seen Albers listed somewheres.
You may ask yourself, "How do I work this?"

I'd say your are probably correct sir.  One more chance for MoBerg and Lane to find glory and erase their miserable year.  Or....

From MusicMan in another thread:

Quote:

Strangely, lefties hit him to the tune of .303/.382/.494, while righties are .217/.294/.416.

The standard "vs. lefty" lineup might not be in place tonight.

Oye. Vamos, vamos.
