So, about the weather in Pittsburgh...
« on: September 28, 2006, 09:30:57 am »
...I wonder if they wait and push it to a night game.  Rains are just about to start in earnest and will likely last through mid-afternoon.  Starts to get spotty after 3 or 4pm as the cold air moves in on gusty NW winds.  Raw evening on tap but could be playable if they 1) are willing to wait out occasional showers this evening and 2) they keep the tarp on  real tight  today.

I worry about Oswalt getting wasted by a stop-start game and/or tearing his groin.

Pre-game reports yesterday were that the Pirates would wait all day and night to get the game in.

I was thinking the same thing.

Here's a terrible thought:  game never gets played, we go straight to Atlanta at 4 in the morning, and then IF we manage to sweep the Braves, we have to fly back to fucking Pitt to play a game on Monday, while the Cards stay home to play the Giants.

It looks like we'll both be drinking at work today.

I mean, I guess we could go home and watch 9 hours of Mayberry's Funniest Moments with the RAIN DELAY watermark in the top right corner, but I should probably try to generate revenue if the Stros aren't actively on the field.

Any combination of tongue, sacrifice, and choking your chicken will suffice, so long as you NEVER mention Roy tearing his groin again.

I thought I could get some good weather info from a friend that does some tv work for sporting games (you know like the All-Star Game, etc.) in Pittsburgh, but she is in North Carolina.

She did say she heard that the Pirates would throw the game as long as Freddy gets 3 hits.  I doubt that is true, but thought it was kind of funny.

Yes.  The game that was PPD was to be played in St. Louis originally.

Thanks for the info guys but I'm totally pissed now.  I was set to leave early today and everything.

Only silver lining I can if the game does get rained out...at least our bullpen gets a much needed day of rest.

It'd be nice if they called it outright, so Roy could pitch tomorrow in ATL, Roger on Saturday, then Pettitte on Sunday.  Would suck to have to come back to Pittsburgh next Monday, but I like our chances of a sweep in ATL much better with the big three on the mound.

It'd really suck if the game gets cancelled after a few innings and Roy's wasted for the weekend.

Let's hope it goes 5 with the Astros ahead, then it rains forever.

Just an FYI, but Astrojo is a woman.  She makes good cookies, but she can't hit worth a damn.
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

Look at the little crosshair plus below the P in Pittsburgh.  The park is in the top left quadrant of the little plus symbol.  If you click in that area once the radar loop has loaded, you will zoom in...

Thanks, I had a vague recollection of that, but I wasn't sure.  Didn't know about the cookies; I guess I'll have to make it to a softball game if I ever want to learn about that firsthand.

According to Justice's  blog (yeah yeah, I feel dirty but I wanted the info)

Quote:

It's a slow, steady, soaking rain falling at game time at PNC Park. Neither pitcher has begun to warm up.

Edited to add: Then again, I just noticed that this "post" is time-stamped as 7:55 am, so who knows what Richard means by "at game time." There was even a direct response to that part of his post at 8:49. What a nutcase.

11:50am  Pirates website says "Rain has delayed the start of the Finale".  Nothing else.

Rains are getting going (that's a meteorological term) pretty good now.
