Man, they should have named him Hayata, so he could join the Science Patrol. That would have been seriously cool.  Who will protect us now?

I fail to see why this is newsworthy, interesting, or funny.
"Ground ball right side, they're not gonna be able to turn two OR ARE THEY, THROW, IS IN TIME!!! WHAT AN UNBELIEVABLE TURN BY BRUNTLETT AND EVERETT, AND THEY CUT DOWN MABRY TO END THE GAME, AND THE ASTROS LEAD THIS NATIONAL LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES THREE GAMES TO ONE!!!!!"

Don't forget to support the fine kids of our favorite Nebraska city.

Why does it already feel like the season is over in here?

Well, last night's result was pretty deflating, given the stakes. When Everett makes two errors in the same game, it seems like a sign that this just might not be the year that everything works out for the good guys.

At 12:18pm (right now), there are a total of 4 registered users on the site.  Including me.

Is this the earliest in the season the forum has ever given up?

I don't think I've given up but when my brother told me that following the Astros this year is similar to an abusive relationship, I had to agree.  Every time you get excited, they hit a bad stretch, get shut out 2 games in a row.  Maybe it's the success of last season.  Maybe it's the lineup that carried over from last year combined with the additions (Wilson and Huff) that should be much better than it is.  Maybe it's the struggles of Pettitte, Lidge, etc...  Either way, expecting any consistant play or success for this team qualifies as an act of insanity.  At this stage, I'm trying to just enjoy the game, watch the young players develop, and see if they get lucky in the WC race.

As for not being around recently, I was on vacation last week, with my wife, celebrating our 5th anniversary.

I can't think of anything worthwhile to post.  Two in a row complete game shutouts, following up on a statistic from Sunday, I think there have been 36 shutouts in the NL this season, the Astros have been shutout 12 times.  Nothing new there.  Buchholz scared to get hit?  2 errors by Everett?  I can only stare at that for so long.  Also, not about to comment on the Chron's attempt to stir up trouble between Garner and Bill Brown who apparently inadvertently announced the pitching change last night before it was "decided".  No where to go with that, how many ways can I document the Chron sports typists perfidy?

Last night I just stared at Everett's double pump, cocked my head like a confused beagle the rest of that inning. I didn't even bother with a WTF?, as you can plainly tell by the depth of detail in my "recap" of last night.  But, I can think of baseball threads, the problem is they'd only stir shit that would best be stirred at a later date.

Ultraman was a Japanese television show from the late 60's, shown in the US from the early 70's through the mid 80's.  Hayata and his crime-fighting alter ego Ultraman, was the main character, member of the Science Patrol.  If you didn't grow up in the 70's, you probably wouldn't know Ultraman.

When Nieve walked Juan Encarnacion is when I SHOULD have looked for something better to watch.

But did anyone else think Pujols was gonna hurt himself legging out that double late in the game?  In a 7-0 game, I was a little surprised.  I also thought he would have been nailed at second, but the throw was late.  Jake fans would have been pissed if he had pulled up lame into second base.

Yes, I was as surprised as you were.  I couldn't see the point in taking the risk, but I guess it's to his credit that he keeps playing hard.

It looks to me like Pujols is getting thicker.  Unless he keeps up with some good flexibility exercises (and maybe he does), he may start to have some hammie problems.

So what's the significance of Hisahito? After I first read the thread, I was mouthing Hisahito in an obnoxious generic Asian accent trying to morph it into "he's a hitter" as the Green Hornet's translation of Garner's term "hitterish."

Was Ultraman that golden armor guy who could go from being normal size to gigantic?  And, wasn't it Captain Planet, not Prince Planet?  I only know the latter because I was required to babysit my nephew when I was in highschool and he loved that show, second only to Barney and Friends.

Wow, who knew?  There's a Captain Planet and a Prince Planet.  Completely different characters.  Prince Planet was the one I was remembering.  It was one of the first anime (of course, we just called them Japanese cartoons then) offerings; it was on in the mid-60s (info  here  and  here).

And, of course, there was Gigantor the robot, too.

Thanks.

Was Ultraman that golden armor guy who could go from being normal size to gigantic?

Yes; he'd do make this cross with his arms and shoot fire and stuff. Pretty cool for grade schoolers in the 70s

I loved Star Blazers.  Every day, my brother and I would come home from school and watch.  The bitch of it all was that they stopped showing the program before we found out if the Star Force ever made it to Planet Iscandar.

So last year, I went out and bought the DVDs of the initial run of SB (who knew it went on).  And I was really pumped up to watch and it totally sucked.  I think that the only redeeming feature of SB was the theme song.

Whew, at least my cousin and I only rented the first disc from Blockbuster.  (We thought we had struck gold - "The have Star Blazers?  On DVD?!)

Then we realized why we watched it when we were 5.

The Wave Motion Gun was still pretty cool - but the theme rocked.
I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing AstroTurf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, torture of Bud Selig.

No mention of Speed Racer ?  That was a good show.  Loved it as a kid.

I grew up in the 70s, and have hands on experience of "Ultraman".

Never heard of the TV show, though...

The Link

I have a music CD that has current artists doing their version of old cartoon or kids shows.  Collective Soul does the theme from The Bugaloos.  Others include The Ramones doing the theme from Spiderman, Matthew Sweet doing Scooby Doo, Butthole Surfers doing Underdog, and Sponge doing a pretty cool Speed Racer theme.

In high school, I had got a cut-out 45 of the original Batman theme, from the '60s live action show with Adam West, etc.  It came in a bag of Lays potato chips, which is something they used to do pretty often... though now that I think of it, I wonder why anyone thought that was a good idea for a promotion.

Anyway, it was a tradition that my brother would come into my room every schoolday morning about ten minutes before we had to leave and crank that record up full blast -- we didn't really feel we were fully prepared to face the day until he had done this.  I don't remember, but I doubt the rest of the family were as enthusiastic about it as we were.

I kinda liked the way Wilma Flinstone had her hair folded up on top of her head.  I had the idea if you ever got her alone and got her to "let her hair down", it would really be down, like to the floor.  But at the time, she was old enough to be my mom.  So I really didn't get into her in that way.  Yuck.

I wasn't a huge cartoon guy -- for one thing, there was no cable yet when I was really young, so Saturday mornings before ten and a few re-runs after school were about it.  I watched my share though.  I don't have a thing for birds, particularly -- ducks and geese, I guess, but then only to blast away at them with a 12-gauge when they go flying by -- but my two favorite cartoons ever, by far, were Woody Woodpecker and Heckel & Jeckyll.  Must've been some kind of subliminal avian thing going on.

memo to self: buy the Speed Racer DVD set for my kid.  Thanks Todd.

Two years ago I bought him the entire collection of Tom & Jerry off of Ebay.  Great investment.  Full set $60.  Adjusting the language options on the DVD and listening to Mammy chew out Tom in Chinese...priceless.

About two years ago I bought my kids the entire original Jonny Quest -- the one from the '60s, with 'Otter' as Jonny Quest -- on DVD.  All 24 episodes, and it is awesome.

I think they've even watched a few with me, too.

The Link - it's Brazil's version so they introduce Bandit as Banditi HA!

I was only born in 1970, but watched Saturday mornings during the 70s with my brother.  I am definitely getting that DVD.  My brother used to have some of the comic books, but I don't know if he has kept up with them.
