It's probably for the best.  If he tried to rest and come back next year and then go through the elbow injury all over again, he would be out till the 2009 season.  This way he will be back in 2008.  Hope he comes back strong in 2008.

Better than he was before.  Better.  Stronger.  Faster.

They should put him in the booth while he recovers. It would be a ratings bonanza. If not, can he still be the cheerleader?

Ok, this is too freaky.  I looked up this exact clip on You Tube this afternoon for a totally unrelated purpose.

Lee Majors = this year's Baio??

I suppose there's some regret he didn't make this decision some months ago, but it's not a surprise.  Now the Astros have one reliable starter under contract for '07, right?

It's comments like  this that make me love having Backe on the squad:

Quote:

"It's possibly Biggio's last year next year and I'm not going to be able to play," said Backe, a native of Galveston, who grew up idolizing Biggio and Jeff Bagwell. "It's the little things that not many people really care about but I do -- things like that that I'm possibly going to miss out on. Hopefully, I can make it back in 10 months and play a month with him."

Bill Brown:  There's a deep fly ball to center field off the bat of Berkman...

Backe:  GET OUTTA HERE, BALL!  YEAHHHHH!!!!  I KNOW HIM!
How can you ask me a question like that?  Do you ask The Beatles that??
