recalled infielder Eric Bruntlett and catcher Humberto Quintero from Triple A Round Rock. To make room for Bruntlett and Quintero on the 25-man roster, the club has optioned catcher J.R. House and right-handed pitcher Chris Sampson to the Express. The Link

Does the 10-day recall restriction apply when the rosters expand?

i.e., could the club bring them back on 9/1, or do they have to wait until 9/8?

Also, does anyone else think they might bring Buchholz up to take Wandy's turn on Saturday?
I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing AstroTurf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, torture of Bud Selig.

Why did Sampson get demoted and not Wandy?  Wandy gets more chances than any other non-productive pitcher in recent memory, while Sampson, doing nothing but performing well when given the chance, gets moved back down.  It makes no sense, IMO.

I thought Wandy was/is scheduled for Friday.  At least I think that is what astros.com had.

No.  The roster doesn't really expand, it's just that after August 31st, there is no 25-man roster.
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

Wandy would have to clear waivers and Sampson would not.

My impression is that the waiver rules are as complex as the tax code.  Did Wandy have to clear waivers earlier in the year, or are the rules different as applied to Wandy at the moment?

My understanding is that he did not have to earlier, but does now.  I could be wrong though.

Yes.  What Footer says on the availability,

"It's likely House and Sampson will return to the club after the minimum 10 days they must remain in the Minors. Bruntlett and Quintero are now part of the pool of players eligible for the postseason, should the Astros make it that far. House and Sampson will not be eligible to make the playoff roster."

It's interesting that they brought up Quintero and not Munson.

Munson's 10 days are not up yet.  He'll be up in September just like everyone else they may need that is available.

However, the chances are that both Sampson and House are being sent down now because they will be valuable to the RR Express for their playoff needs.  I think both House and Sampson return only when the playoffs end for the AAA club.

His ten days aren't up yet, but they would be Aug. 30, which is soon enought for the playoff roster.  I'm wondering if they think Quintero is a better catcher for Wandy.

Maybe they feel like for a playoff series that Quintero is a better catcher to carry than House or Munson.  Especially if (as we get WAY ahead of ourselves here) the Astros win the WC their most likely opponent is the steM with Beltran and Reyes.  Just a thought.

He accepted his assignment on the 20th?  I always thought it was 10 days on the minor league club's roster.

Eggszactly!  He accepted his assignment five days (I believe) after he was DFA'ed.  His first day reporting to the AAA club (physically) is when the 10 day clock begins.

Isn't Quintero better than Munson defensively?
