The Astros announced several moves today from their spring training major league roster:
1. Turk Wendell has been reassigned to minor league camp, he hints at retirement.
2. Charles Gipson and Royce Huffmann have been reassigned to minor league camp. Gipson says he will report to the minor leagues.
3. Carlos Hernandez was optioned to AAA Round Rock, as well as Jared Gothreaux and Wandy Rodriquez.
Hernandez may of lost his bid to be the Houston Astros #5 starter with this move, although GM Tim Purpura believes he can still be in the running if he shows them something before April 17. Rookies Willy Tavares, Chris Burke, Luke Scott and Zeke Astacio continue to hang on to major league jobs so far as Camp Scrap Iron 2005 is in it's last two weeks of preparation prior to Opening Day. Scott is the most interesting option of the rookies because of his current eye-opening play this spring. Astacio is not that far behind with his pitching performance as well.
