Major props.

They just said 47 pitches...39 strikes, 8 balls.

Another K.  He needs a nickname.  He's earned it.

Amen.  How about Sacredkowski?  No, he deserves better.  Much better.

ETA I've been calling him the Polish Prince, but that might already by taken by Bobby Vinton.

Buddy Ryan/Chris Berman on Cris Carter: "All he does?  CATCH TOUCHDOWNS."

Borkowski: "All he does?  THROW STRIKES."

He ended up throwing 70 pitches, 51 for strikes.  Compare that to Clemens who was 98-60.

Plus, Borkowski issued that ibb, which I think messed him up.  I hate the ibb.

It worked very well for the Cubs.

Just another reason to hate it.

I understand why it can be used, I just hate it.

I don't know what Dusty Baker told Murton as the intentional walk was being issued, but if he told him "Look for the outside pitch fastball or slider and go with the pitch... we've been rolling over that pitch all night... look to go the other way with it!".  I like Borkowski, but other than Aramis Ramirez, I don't think I saw a single Cubbie try to hit his slider/cutter/fastball pitches on the outside black to right field.  To Borkowski's credit, he wasn't afraid to bust guys inside for effect.  I'm certain he was trying to bust Murton's hands on the single to right, but he was just too fine with that pitch (fearing he was going to miss and go 3-1).  He left it over the middle of the plate and Murton stayed back and took it to right effectively.

Last night, while I will give Borkowski his props, both teams hitters were woeful.  It was a matter of who was going to outlast the other at sucking!  What the pitchers were throwing wasn't hard to figure out.  What the hitters were trying to do was preplexing... and that pertains to both clubs.

BTW - did anyone else notice the big ruckus Dusty Baker and his coaches had when Zambrano went up to hit?  Baker had gone senile (apparently) and sent Z up to hit away.  His coaches quickly jumped in to let Dusty know he could use another pitcher to lay down a bunt and save Zambrano for later.  That way Ramirez could hit with a runner in scoring position.  Baker decided he was going to stick with his plan of letting Zambrano swing away.  He promptly hit into a double play.

The look on the Cub coaches faces was priceless at the time.  Baker had this "leave me the fuck alone" look too.

I saw that too, but I'm told that Garner was completely outmanaged, and that what we saw was actually a Strat-O-Matic game acted out by "players", who apparently have no control over their performance.

I still can't believe I stayed up watching that shit.

At first I had an 11pm cutoff, then it became midnight and I finally turned the damn thing off.  Missed the last three innings.  Should have stopped at 10.

A few other 'funny' things about last night. Did you see the little kid in front of Drayton last night bouncing up and down.  Think it was bottom of 10th, but kid would get in Drayton's way and D would move his head, kid would block again and D would move his head (this went on for a few hitters) next hitter kid was sitting down being quite.

And, Foul ball, think it was in the 11th over by the Scrubs dugout.  Out of nowhere, a cub player runs over and tries to reach over the fence and snag the ball. He wiffed about as bad as some of the fans do.  (side note: I can't understand why people fight over a foul ball. Its not like you get a free snow cone or anything.)

The camera also caught Drayton cleaning the pipes.  I think the game had gone so long his nose had grown stalagtites.

I'm pretty sure that was Neifi Perez.  Made me laugh, which was quite an accomplishment at that point.

Nefi Perez.  He played that as well as he does most of his on-field plays.

I made 16 innings, then decided to watch from my bed. I lasted about 30 seconds before I drifted off with the TV on. I woke up to Garner's press conference and turned the TV off.

During that 14 inning game against the Dodgers, in which he pitched 4 pretty remarkable scoreless innings, my buddy tabbed him the Polish Hammer.  I kinda like that one.

It was great. It was like the kid was trying to block him on purpose. Drayton would move right to see around him, the kid would move right. Drayton would move left, the kid would move left. Somebody must have told him to stay in his seat after that.

I stayed awake until Murton's hit in the 18th, at which point I turned off the TV and the remote control sailed across the room.

I gave up at 13, but when I woke up to the replay, it was the middle of the 14th ... I wish I had just gotten on line and ended the suspense.

That about summed up the experience for me as well.

Bork Bork deserved better than a loss for that game.
