At least the bullpen's utter collapse moved the attention away from an absolutely incredible failure of the umpires to perform any of their job duties.

I'll even give them the call on Burke at 2b - Burke iced that by not moving more urgently to the bag - but Everett at first and Scott's HBP were both blatant calls that I cannot fathom how they were missed.

I have to agree.  Did you also notice the homeplate umpire's change in strikezone in the 9th?  But it still goes back to the team played lack-luster baseball, yesterday.

If he's on the bag waiting for the throw, they get the call. I don't know why he was so slow, other than a mental lapse.

IIRC Tim McClelland is routinely rated the best ump by the players, so it's hard to have a beef with him.  He appeared to look at the ball for shoe polish after Scott was hit by it; I guess he didn't see any.

As for Fieldin Culbrith and his technicolor sunglasses, he just plain missed that call at first.

Thankfully neither was the difference in the game.

My guess is that he wasn't expecting Everett to get to that ball... kind of lollygagging as if he thought it was going through into center.

Wouldnt have been a scuff on the ball that hit Scott.  It hit him on the sock area.
