That was just fuckin nasty.  Nasty I tells ya.

Holy shit, that may be the best I've ever seen Brad Lidge.
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

See, this is what boxscores don't tell you.

3 up, 3 down vs. the Pirates does nothing to explain just how ON Mr.Lidge was tonight.
I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing AstroTurf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, torture of Bud Selig.

All the pitching tonight was masterful.  Backe was on like it was the playoffs, Wheels was dominant and Lidge was his old self (in other words, unhittable).  Add just enough run support, and you have a vintage Astros win.

That, along with "Money" Wheeler's K/side and Backe's good outing, and I just may have to change my underpants.

Couldn't get the radio feed at work because the Astros were pre-empted for the Silver Stars of the WNBA.

San Antonio radio s-u-x.

I was relegated to "watching" gamecast.

I must admit, it was pretty freakin' awesome to see strike after strike pop up on the screen.

Lidge Nebraska.

Ehhh ... I hate to tell you this, but I think the tradition is just the opposite. Your underpants are lucky now, and you CAN'T change them.

But there are other more-informed experts around here. I think Lissi is the expert on lucky panties.

Now seeee....  This is why it sucks being out of the loop Astrowise, and why I come "here".  Being in a position to rely on just reading the boxscore sucks.

Yeah but he did it against the Pirates... He still sucks, he threw a ball. If he wasn't such a bum he'd have done it in 9 pitches. If he trusted his stuff, he would have done it with 3 broken bat ground outs on 3 pitches. Good thing there's no one named Pooholes or Podnesdick on the Pirates.

Backe's injury might end up being the best thing that could of happened to him (hear me out), the fact that he's not 100% and lacking 3-4 MPH off his FB has forced him to learn to pitch. This is what he has lacked, the arsenal is there, but he would get caught up in trying to strike out the side and seemed to avoid pitching to contact. Now, he appears to realize his limits and pitches within them.

Brandon said after the game that he "can no longer blow a FB by the hitter, he now has to try and get guys to roll over on one", which is great to hear. Brandon's interview also showed a very calm side of him and he was almost disappointed that he can't attack with his FB, the next interview was Everett saying "this (last 2 starts) is the best I've seen Brandon pitch, ever". I hope that when Backe gets his velocity back on his FB that he remembers what worked for him when he wasn't 100%.

It was almost as if he read that nice little quote from the PIT paper and was saying "Oh yeah? Well, hit this!"
I remember all the good times me 'n Miller enjoyed
Up and down the M1 in some luminous yo-yo toy
But the future has to change - and to change I've got to destroy
Oh look out Lennon here I come - land ahoy-hoy-hoy
