Report from someone actually at the game...
Moberg looked like the MoBerg of old. Taking aggressive swings at pitches in the zone, and doing that ridiculously infuriating "follow every pitch with a whip of the head as it passes" when he took.
Worked walks with 2 strikes both times he took a stroll to first.
His first double was a rope that went to the left field wall on about 2 hops down the line. He almost got rung up by the 2nd base ump for not hustling all the way. The throw in got to the bag right about when he did, and he was lollygagging.
His homer was a SHOT. It might not have cleared the wall in the Crawford Boxes, but it was DRILLED to straight-away left field. Would've taken out a number or two on the scoreboards if it didn't clear in Houston.
Didn't see his last double, thanks to Mike "Please For GOD'S SAKE RELEASE ME" Gallo. We gave up and went home after the Grand Slam inning.
Amazingly, in Gallo's first inning:
Came in to face 2 lefties to begin with.
Walked the first guy on 5 pitches. During the silence of the batter walking to first, I ROARED "Gallo, THROW STRIKES." I know he heard me, saw his head twitch our direction.
Next guy bunts. Gallo watches it roll past him. Recent call up JR House fields it, flips to the late-covering Gallo, who isn't going to beat the runner in a footrace to first. Gallo reaches out and tags the runner about a step before he gets to the bag.
Homotastic first base ump, obviously not watching to see if there was a tag play, just watching the base to see who wins the footrace, calls the runner safe.
SuperJoe, who was playing 2nd at the time, demands the first base ump ask the home plate ump for some help, since he obviously didn't see the play.
The first base ump declines Joe's request, and is promptly tossed for whatever he said next. Joe goes BALLISTIC. Home plate ump walks Joe in circles around Jackie Moore and the 1st base ump for a solid 3-4 minutes while Jackie gets his say.
It becomes apparent that Jackie is not going back to the dugout in this game. During a quiet few seconds, you can clearly hear Jackie say, "No, I'm not going to leave." First base ump tosses Jackie, and the crowd goes nuts. Jackie gets a standing ovation.
Next guy bunts the runners over, 2nd and 3rd and 1 out.
Gallo I-walks the next guy, almost hopping one throw and just missing throwing one to the backstop over Giminez's head. Next guy up, who is hitting .430 with 5 homers, BLASTS one off the shed roof in center.
For all intents and purposes, game over.
Gallo let the Rivercats bat around in both the 8th and 9th innings.
RELEASE HIM! YESTERDAY!
