I agree Jim. Although my knee jerk reaction after this one (with tongue firmly planted in cheek) is to waive Lidge and Qualls.

As a mostly longtime lurker, my recent discontent has led me to post more!

It is tough to be sellers with the recent history of the Astros.  Every time I count them out, they become red hot and make the playoffs.  Nobody is talking much about plan C, which is stand pat.  It may be a tough idea to handle, but it might be whats best for the organization in the future.  Plus this team can still win without being buyers or sellers.  Key players just need to play up to their potential and stay healthy.

i think they should pursue the intelligent deal while protecting the future, just as we were saying yesterday. if they cannot find that deal, stand pat and make changes in the off-season. the WC can be won, and imo, management has a duty to try to win it.

Hopefully still buyers. St. Louis and the Mets are hardly powerhouses. It seems less likely than the past two years, but if things fell right into place, the NL is still there for the taking.

The post game show today was a bit interesting.  Granatto said that he had talked to Drayton and was told in masked words that for 2 hours the O's and Astros had done a deal of Ensberg and Everett for Tejada.  Apparently the O's pulled out.

He went on to say that Drayton then said that they are continuing to look for deals, indicating that the team would try to make an impact move.  It sounded like that the results of this game didn't play into that decision.

I believe Granato said that the deal was done for about two hours, until "a certain east coast team that has trouble making decisions" pulled out right before the final details. White, in a stage whisper, said it was the Orioles.

You must have gotten a different broadcast than I did, because I don't recall Granato mentioning Ensberg and Everett. Or maybe you're just trying to stir the pot here.

It's the mandate from the Owner.  Even if Purpura wanted to be a seller I doubt that he would be allowed.

The reputation of the Orioles is just that, a team that has huge problems making decisions.  Why?  Peter Angelos is nuts, that's why and he wants final say so on baseball related decisions.  He is what George Steinbrenner used to be before Torre, Cashman and Michaels (especially the latter) convinced him that they knew how to do the job of running a baseball team quite well without Georgie's insance veto powers.  When men like Angelos, Steinbrenner and even McLane get their egos in the way, it can very dangerous for a baseball organization.

Angelos is known as the worse of the bunch.  He practically paralyzes the team into doing nothing because of his indecisive ways.

Well, the rumors are circulated by the media who, of course, is a lazy bunch of journalist who cut and paste from each other.  If the rumor is generated from one source (say Richard Justice's thinking out loud bubble), then it doesn't surprise me that it's reached the hills of central Texas as a fact.

Having said that, trading Roy Oswalt now would be stupid.  They can pick up his option next year and trade him next year if they want.  Today would be stupid.

They would have needed several weeks lead time to attract and analyze multiple offers.  Now, there wouldnt be enough bidders.
