Warm up the Tombstone
« on: July 30, 2006, 06:04:50 pm »
This game is a killer.   Cruise control until Qualls comes in and does his best lidge impression.   Then not to be topped, Lidge grabs his title right back.

Now that stinking hippie Brynes ROBS Munson.

Ouch, ouch, ouch.
There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese.

Damn, I wish I knew how to quit this team.
I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing AstroTurf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, torture of Bud Selig.

Nah, you don't.

If you really wanted to, you would.  Lots more important things than baseball.

Doesn't keep us from doing this to ourselves.

In any case, I wish we'd sell.

I agree, fuck that guy.... but damn what a day he had.  Guess it helps when you get to hit vs the Astros pen, and play CF against the Astros hitters.    CFs, when playing vs the Astros seem to get possessed by the ghost of Willie Mayes and are able to make out of the bodyesque plays in the field.

I am as big a homer as there is, and I'll never stop watching no matter how bad, but this team makes it very difficult to think they'll pull it together in August and September.

I think you and I are the only ones here that think that. McLane ain't going to let that happen.

A 2-4 homestand is disasterous at this point.

No, I think quite a few people think selling is the way to go.

The only saving grace is the NL.    It is fucking awful.   As bad as the Astros have been playing, due to the suckitude of the NL, they are not out of it.    That is the fact that  makes it impossible to quit them....well that and the last two years post all-star break runs.

Yeah, and the only reason they won't do it?  Is because McLane is terrified (and I understand why) of what will happen if we sold off right now.  Empty stadium the rest of the season, no more '05 NL Champs shirts sold, and what would Sheriff Blaylock do with the rest of his botulism?

Because what blows is that I'm one of only a few thousand people who would keep going to watch Pence, Hirsh, etc.  Fact of business is, most of the fans here (and any town) are morons.

Exactly. As abso-fucking-lutely awful as they have been, they're still in it.

Drayton must believe he owes it to the season ticket holders to field a competitive team (ugh) until the end. When exactly is the end you ask? I don't have a clue, but it's not July 30th, thanks to the Wild Card and the sucky NL.

And not only that, but if they did make the playoffs, and APe pitches like he normally does in the post season, they have a reasonable chance to advance.

Last season the Astros went 12-4 in their first 16 games after the break, charging right back into the fold.

So far, thru 16 games after the break?  6-10.

This ain't last year's club.

I really appreciate what Drayton is trying to do.  Seriously.  Most teams never have an owner that spends as much as ours.  We've extraordinarily lucky.

But I think it's time to sell and try a different bunch of guys.

ONLY, if the bullpen is consistently good.
