Garner in 07?
« on: July 30, 2006, 03:39:05 pm »
With the talk about what the Astros will look like next year, I haven?t seen anyone's opinion on Garner. I would assume that he would be a lock for the 2007 option on his contract but considering the way this season has gone, I don?t think he is a sure thing anymore. I personally can?t imagine the Astros not picking up his option, but we still have a lot of baseball to play and if we make a blockbuster trade and end up playing worse or whatever....

So, what I?m curious to know is what the popes and everyone else on this fine board thing of him as a manager. Does anyone thing he could be gone next season? Any other managers out there you would like to see take control of the team? Anything about Garner?s ?style? that pisses you off?

I'm not a pope, but I play one online.

I said it two years ago and I stand by it.

Gar can manage my team as long as he wants.  Period.

The super-geniuses over at AD have pinned today's loss on Gar for putting in a Chad Qualls who, until two days ago, was the best reliever in baseball over the past month.

I know.  I go over there once every 6 months, in the hopes that they have some info that we missed over here, and I always end up slapping my forehead and wondering how the few truly knowledgable fans over there keep from killing themselves.

That's the reason I stopped going over there a couple of weeks ago.  The last post I remember was something like "They need to stop allowing pitchers to give up grand slams, Garner should pull the pitcher before he gives up a grand slam even if it's the 1st inning".  You might have the bar set a little high when you expect your manager to be Nostradamus.

Well, I read the first post and thought "ok, well, this guy'll get his ass torn a new..." and read on to see multiple people agree with him!

I got sort of that "ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.  I seeeeee." feeling as I backed away.

Plus you get gems like this (that was just posted):

Please do not make a deal that will mortage the farm. We suck and don't deserve to be in consideration for the playoffs.
First :
Our Manager pulls a hall of fame pitcher with 90 pitches in the 8th inning with 9 K's no walks.
Second :::
We have a catcher who can't hit

And this bit of wisdom (just posted at AD):

"You know when the three stooges (Phil, Tim and Drayton) huddle tonight, they'll feel obligated to pull something off after this latest fiasco. What a disgrace."

As has been stated many times on this site.  How many playoff series wins did we have before Garner?

Yes sir, Drayton and Gar have been a disgrace to this city and the franchise.

Bring back the old days!  I want to know from DAY ONE that our team has no chance to compete this year...or next.

And yet, that site gets all kinds of recognition by Brownie and Greg Lucas.  Not so much JD, who seems to prefer this one.

Speaking of idiots, did anybody see Houston Sports Beat on FSN this week?  Jose de Jesus Ortiz was on his soap box again about how much allowing Biggio to continue playing 2nd base is hurting the organization.

Why is he always bitching about Biggio still playing?  Did he catch Biggio fucking his wife?

Yes, I HAVE noticed that and I don't get it.

Not only that, Greg seems to be part of AD, getting feedback on the actual broadcasts and stuff from those folks.

I guess it's because they don't cuss or call each other names.

I think I'd rather be on a site that gets no recognition.
